With 4RP the "on-board subsystem of CCS" is part of the process of vehicleauthorisation

The Agency will setup and manage the

set of checks todemonstrate the

technicalcompatibility

Each IM submitsESC/RSC.

Eg: ESC-1, RSC-1

IM classifies thetrackside accordingto ESC & RSCchecks required fordemonstratingtechnicalcompatibility. This values arerecorded in RINF

Vehicle authorisation:Applicant performs the

ESC/RSC.The results of the

ESC/RSC statements areverified by NoBo

Recorded in the vehicleauthorisation as

conditions for use andin ERATV

RouteCompatibility check

(not part of VA):RU compares ETCS

& Radio SystemCompatibility

values betweenRINF and ERATV.

Note: Adding or removing ESC/RCS from a vehicle type trigger “version”(no new authorisation)

Simplified, Efficient Route Compatibility Checks

The Role of ERA as ERTMS System Authorityis Strengthened with the 4th Railway Package

Applicant submitsrequest forapproval for anERTMS tracksideprojectIncluding requesteddocumentationIncluding evidences thatissues are controlled andwill be resolved

Agency issues adecision on

NSA authorizes thefixed installationsincluding theERTMS tracksidesubsystemApproval is required forthe authorization by theNational Safety Authorityas part of the applicationfile

Application Guide isin ERA website

First ERTMS trackside decisions on approvals requests from 16th June 2019.Submission is before the tender is launched.(GSM-R only technical solutions also fall in the scope of Approval.)

Vision 2030 – 50,000 km with ETCS

The whole Core Network in service with ETCS

Trackside deployed with modular configurations, withfew “types” of implementations covering each network:out-contracting of field works, maintaining tight controlover quality, safety and interoperability.

On-board installations based on generic product fromeach supplier, with demonstration of ETCS and radiocompatibility reducing the risks and uncertainties oftesting in line.

ERTMS as software products: scheduled updates managed by suppliers to eliminate errors, ensureinteroperability and safety.

ERTMS as backbone for the automation of digital connected rail system: separation of onboard andtrackside allows innovation maintaining compatibility: Level 3, ATO, trackside evolution, …

We need transparency

If we are serious about a European system, we need to agree on a framework for the various initiatives –we have to coordinate outputs and ensure consistency of approach

The European Commission, with ERA and S2R, is preparing a paper with its vision for thefuture CCS system architecture

Innovative solutions shall be conceived and validated in SHIFT2RAIL

ERA proposal to govern the evolution of the CCS System Architecture by a dedicated work group of theERTMS Stakeholder Platform
