THEmother of an eight year old girlwho was allegedly raped and sodo-mised at the age of six by XolileTose (33) ofMotherwell is pleadingwith SouthAfricans to help her in-

nocent child face life again.

Tose is currently on trial in the Port Eliza-beth High Court. His bail application hadbeen denied. He has pleaded not guilty.The unemployed woman (30), who cannot

be identified to protect the identity of thechild, is struggling to survive since the ordealon 16 December 2011. She is currently rentinga shack in Motherwell.The told PE Express Indaba, that she needs

assistance to help her child live life to the full,

like any other child.The girl suffered severe physical injury to

her private parts and has to wear a colostomybagas a result of thehorrific rape.Hermothersaid the girl was also asked to leave the schoolshe was attending owing to the smell of thecolostomy bag.“This is an allegation theDepartment of Ed-

ucation refutes. But the child is not at school.The records show that she last attendedschool in March 2013,” said Children’s rightsadvocate Petros Majola.“We, the caring members of society need to

do something to restore this child’s child-hood. We need to find ways to get her a home,with sanitation, water, safety and most of alllove,” said the Justice Department’s Interme-diary, who spoke to PE Express as a mother,and a caring South African resident.

MEMBERS of the South African Police Serv-ice (SAPS) inNewBrighton are investigatinga murder case following the fatal shooting ofa 39-year old man at Malakane Street, NewBrighton on Friday March 21.

According to SAPS Port Elizabeth Policespokesperson Warrant Officer Thembi Gwe,the unknown suspect approached the de-ceased Mzwandile Budaza and fired several

shots at him. Budaza died instantly. The sus-pects had already fled the scene when policearrived.

“Police recovered several empty cartridg-es on the scene,’ said W/O Gwe, adding thatthe motive for the killing was unknown.

CRIMEeradication operations in theMoth-erwell police station precinct yielded goodresults as a number of law-breakers werearrested during the past weekend.

Motherwell SAPS spokespersonWarrantOfficer Dumile Gwavu said police arrestedmany suspects in theMotherwell andKam-velihle area as part of the weekend specialoperations.

“Suspects were arrested for differentcrimes suchashousebreaking and theft, as-

sault with intent to do grievous bodilyharm, some with warrants of arrest, a fewthat were drunk and disorderly and somedriving without their driving licenses,”said Gwavu.

Others were also arrested for crimes thatinclude shoplifting, crimen injuria, theft,malicious damage to property, attemptedtheft of motor vehicles and attempted rape.

According to W/O Gwavu, the suspectsthey arrested ranged in ages between 18and 63 years. They were all expected to ap-pear in the Motherwell Magistrate Courtsoon.

According to the Chris HaniDistrict Communications Of-ficer of theDepartment,NandeFayo, the woman, CikizwaKambule, who is currently be-ing kept at the safe shelter inQueenstownsaid shewas fromVosloorus in Gauteng.

She said shewas in the East-ern Cape to visit her cousinnamed Vatiswa Sobopa wholived in Ezibeleni township inQueenstown.

Since last year, however,both police and the socialworkers have tried in vain to locate VatiswaSobopa.Whenthey tookCikizwato theaddress

in Ezibeleni, there was no person named Va-tiswa Sobopa.

“What was strange was that she had noclothes except for those she was wearing. Shehad no Identity Document or a ticket to provethat she came from Gauteng.

Therearenorecordswhatsoeverof thewom-an’s family or background. She is said to have

a tendency of isolating her-self from other people at theshelter and also likes to talkto imaginary people.

“Her accent is purely isi-Xhosa, and not isiZulu or se-Sotho as would be expectedfrom someone coming fromVosloorus where she claimsshe grew up,” said Fayo.

MPL Tamara Xhanti working together withthe Department of Social Development andSpecial Programmes and local Councillorswithin her Constituency brought early win-ter relief to hundreds of toddlers belonging toeight Early Childhood Development Centres(creches) in Motherwell last week Thursday.

“This is government reaching out to thepoorest of the poor in the community,” saidXhanti who Chairs the Social Developmentand Special Programms Portfolio Committeein Bhisho after giving out blankets and mat-tresses to five creches and almost R18 000 infunding each to another three.

The funding would assist the institution’spayment of a stipend for educators and ad-ministrators, buying of food (nutrition) andother educational materials necessary.

“This is going to help us a great deal. Weneeded this kind of assistance in an areawhere parents are mostly unemployed andstruggling to pay R80 a month fees,” said NU12B’s Bongolethu Educare Centre PrincipalVuyiswa Zenani, adding that there wouldnow be enough food for the children.

Xhanti said that while government did nothave enough funds to assist every departmentand individual’s needs, her timely delibera-tions with the Social Development Depart-ment and Special Programmes Nelson Man-dela Bay District Manager, Thembile Ngqa-bayi, made it possible for these veryimportant centres to receive the required as-sistance.

Xhanti thanked Ward 54, 55, 56 and 57 localcouncillors and her Constituency OfficerMorgan Tshela who assisted in identifyingthe needy institutions whose plight was aboutto change for the better.
