    PUBLIC SPEAKING IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK GOOD IN FRONT OF PEOPLE. ALL

    YOUR LIFE YOUR SPEECH WILL HELP YOU OR HINDER YOU. YOU SPEAK MOREOFTEN THAN YOU WRITE; INDEED, SPEAKING IS MORE COMMON THAN ALL OTHERFORMS OF COMMUNICATION PUT TOGETHER. SO THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THIS

    COURSE IS TO GET PEOPLE SPEAKING IN FRONT OF GROUPS WITH MORE EASE ANDSTYLE. IN THIS COURSE THE STUDENT WILL HAVE MANY SPEAKING EXPERIENCESAND SHOULD, THEREFORE, EXHIBIT A GREAT DEAL OF IMPROVEMENT.

    L A S S P R O C E D U R E S

    1.  A TYPED OUTLINE MUST BE PLACED ON THE FRONT DESK FOR EACH SPEECHON THE DAY THE SPEECH IS TO BE GIVEN. AN OUTLINE MAY HAVE NO LESSTHAN SEVEN POINTS. SPEECHES MAY NOT BE GIVEN WITHOUT A TYPEDOUTLINE. OUTLINES TURNED IN AT THE END OF CLASS (IN THE LAST 15MINS.) ARE MAKEUP SPEECHES.

    2. 

    EACH STUDENT SHALL AGREE UPON SIX SPEAKING DATES. ONCE THESEDATES ARE SET STUDENTS SHOULD NOT CHANGE THESE SPEAKING DATES.ONLY ONE SPEECH MAY BE GIVEN "OFF SCHEDULE" (EARLY OR LATE). THIS

    SPEECH OUTLINE WILL GO INTO THE MAKE-UP STACK AND WILL BE GIVEN ASTIME BECOMES AVAILABLE.

    3.  SPEAKERS WILL BE SIGNALED WHEN THEY REACH THE TIME LIMIT.SPEECHES THAT RUN 1 MIN. OVERTIME WILL BE "CUT OFF". NO EXCEPTIONS

    4. 

    IF A STUDENT WISHES TO USE AN OUTLINE WHILE HE IS SPEAKING, HE MAYDO SO FOR THE INFORMATIVE, PERSUASIVE, AND THE "THIS I BELIEVE"

    SPEECHES. IF A STUDENT DOES USE AN OUTLINE HE WILL NEED ONE FORHIMSELF AND ONE FOR THE INSTRUCTOR.

    5.  EIGHTY PERCENT OF EACH SPEECH SHOULD BE LIVE SPOKEN WORDS. WHILERECORDED SOUND AND FILM ARE VERY EFFECTIVE, THEY MAY NOT BE THEMAIN SOURCE OF YOUR PRESENTATION. LIVE NARRATION OF THE SOUND ORFILM CAN BE AN EXCITING SOLUTION.

    6.  DAY CLASS ATTENDANCEFIVE ABSENCES WILL BE ALLOWED FOR FIELD TRIPS IN OTHER CLASSES, DR.APPOINTMENTS, AND UNAVOIDABLE EMERGENCIES. AFTER THE FIFTHABSENCE A STUDENT WILL LOOSE 25 POINTS. 100 POINTS WILL BEDEDUCTED FOR EACH ADDITIONAL FIVE ABSENCES (ON THE 10TH, 15TH ETC.).

    NIGHT CLASS ATTENDANCE (ALL SUMMER CLASSSES)TWO ABSENCES WILL BE ALLOWED FOR FIELD TRIPS IN OTHER CLASSES, DR.APPOINTMENTS, AND UNAVOIDABLE EMERGENCIES. AFTER THE SECONDABSENCE A STUDENT WILL LOOSE 25 POINTS. 100 POINTS WILL BEDEDUCTED FOR EACH ADDITIONAL TWO ABSENCES (ON THE 4TH, 6TH ETC.).

    7.  MORE THAN 15 MINUTES MISSED FROM A SINGLE CLASS IN THE BEGINNING,MIDDLE OR END OF A CLASS CONSTITUTES AN ABSENCE. YOU MAY NOTWALK IN DURING A SPEECH BUT STAND AT THE DOOR WERE YOU CAN BE

    SEEN.

    8. 

    IF YOU ARE TARDY (LESS THEN 15 MINUTES AT THE BEGINNING, MIDDLE OREND OF CLASS) ALWAYS NOTIFY THE INSTRUCTOR THAT DAY, BUT AFTERCLASS ONLY. FIVE TARDIES WILL BE ALLOWED (TWO IN THE NIGHT ANDSUMMER CLASS). ANY TARDY AFTER THESE WILL BE AN ABSENCE.

    9.  VISUAL AIDS MAY BE USED FOR THE DEMONSTRATION, HIGH-TECH,ENTERTAINMENT, AND "I BELIEVE" SPEECHES ONLY.

    LATE SPEECHES MUST BE TURNED IN AND MADE UP BEFORE THE LAST

    SPEECH IS DUE.
