M asaba, daughter of ac tress Neena Gupta and West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards, at age 24, be- came the youngest fashion di- rector of Satya Paul when she took charge of the brand in 2012. Since then, she has worked hard to revolutionise the brand. A nand Philip, general physician, NationWide - The Family Doctors says that lice move by crawling, they cannot fly or jump, so they spread by close head-to-head contact, like when children sit together in a crowded classroom or school bus. Another way of transmitting head lice is by using the comb or hair band or scrunchie of someone who has lice. "Lice do not cause any disease, but the itching caused by them is very uncomfortable and can cause people, particularly children, to have poor sleep and be distracted throughout the day. The sores caused by scratching can get infected with bacteria, which further complicates the situation," Philip told us. He says that the itching is usually worse during the evenings and night. She walked the ramp in a black- and-red ensemble that had much layering. Her charm was in sync with the theme of the show, sponsored by Fiama Di Wills. Speaking of the inspiration for the collection, Rodricks said: "In the pursuit of youth, I trav- elled to the heart of humanity: Africa, an Africa that is very different from what is precon- ceived. Here is a new conti- nent, fresh with the promise of youth." Compared to previous shows, the designer has used more fit- ted silhouettes this time. Some of the gowns were free-flowing, but for the most part, the silhou- ette was body-skimming. The show's high point was the use of handloom technique. "This time we have used mainly linens and silks, but have brought in the hand quality via a suite of six creative crochet pieces. These are done with a total twist on a crochet technique. The other handwork of importance is the exquisite copper wire and bead accessories that were made by Nadia Dajani (American ac- tress) in Jordan," the designer said. The fabric used has been textured to look handcrafted. Against background of white, red, blue and yellow, the gold and black was shimmering. Apart from the "unusual showstopper", there was also the live performance of African troupe "Shadow Acrobats" from Tanza- nia. Fiama Di Wills, apart from spon- soring the show, also launched the second edition of a signature series of Couture Spa range of gel- bathing bars. Rodricks has de- signed this new range too. Talking of the collaboration, the designer said: "My association with Fiama has been going on for the second season. Last year, we did the collaboration to create the packaging for the Couture Spa. It was a resounding success and they renewed the contract this year as well." Chevrolet today revealed a video of the all-new, 2014 Camaro Z/28 lapping Germany’s challenging Nürburgring road course in 7:37.40, a time comparable with some of the world’s most prestigious sports cars. The Z/28’s lap is four seconds faster than the Camaro ZL1, and beats published times for the Porsche 911 Carrera S and the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. The Z/28’s lap was completed on less-than-ideal conditions, with damp pavement and pouring rain near the end of the run. "One of the challenges of testing at the 'Ring is that the track is so long that conditions can change radically in a single lap," said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. "Adam Dean, the development driver for Z/28, did a heroic job driving in deteriorating conditions. Based on telemetry data from our test sessions, we know the Z/28 can be as much as six seconds faster on a dry track." In terms of lap times, the Z/28’s improved speed came from three areas: Increased grip: The Z/28 is capable of 1.08 g in cornering acceleration, due to comprehensive chassis revisions Increased stopping power: The Z/ 28 features Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes capable of 1.5 g in deceleration, and consistent brake feel lap after lap Reduced curb weight: The naturally aspirated Z/28 weighs 300 pounds less than the supercharged Camaro ZL1, with changes ranging from lightweight wheels to thinner rear- window glass. KAINAAT ARORA SUSHMITA DANN WHY WEARING A CORSET FOR HOURS CAN BE DANGEROUS F or many women, a wardrobe isn’t complete without a corset. It can play up your assets and work as the perfect bedroom pick-me-up for those wanting to indulge in some burlesque- seduction. In fact, more than diamonds, the corset has been a girl’s best friend. For decades, women — both on and off screen — have been wearing this inner wear (worn frequently as outer wear in recent years) to accentuate their curves. But style apart, now, many also use it as a weight-loss mantra. Actress Jessica Alba revealed she wore two corsets — day and night — for three months to try to get back to the weight she was at before she had her daughters. “It was sweaty, but it was worth it. It was brutal and it’s not for everyone,” she was quoted as saying. Once a constrictive undergarment, more women are now wearing the tight girdle for long hours in a bid to try and make it a shortcut to getting those curves back. With the body ideal becoming skinny and size zero, the fad can pose a threat and experts warn it can actually restrict breathing, damage skin and even bruise internal organs. A corset is not the right approach to weight loss. “Weight loss does not occur by wearing it. When we wear one on the abdomen, it gives a physical appearance of smaller waistline. Although it might seem to make a person’s appearance slimmer, this is just a temporary visual belief as the waistline never decreases permanently. Thus, a corset should simply be treated as an accessory,” says general and laparoscopic surgeon Dr Manish Motwani. Adds city-based surgeon Dr Shashank Shah, “People are trying anything when it comes to extreme weight loss, without understanding the implications. When it comes to the corset, it is actually recommended after a bariatric surgery only to support the skin. This is medically done and designed as per a person’s requirement. It cannot be randomly worn by anyone to lose weight. It also should not be worn by hernia patients and those with previous scars.” Wearing a tight garment can cause the internal organs to move out of their original positions. As it is tight, it can cause breathlessness and discomfort while moving, as well as indigestion. "Some of them might even develop sores on the head, particularly towards the back of the head and behind the ears. Once there are lice in large numbers, they lay eggs called nits which are visible and attach to the hair," he said. Philip says that treatment for lice has two components -- killing of the adult and hatched lice. "It is done through using an anti-louse shampoo which can be bought easily and the removal of the nits, which requires combing with a fine toothed comb. Apply the shampoo as per the instructions on the label and do not use any other shampoo or conditioner for two days. "After washing hair, keep checking hair for lice and nits every two to three days for three weeks to reduce the chance of getting infected again, or catching any residual lice," he said. WHY WEARING A CORSET FORHOURS CAN BE DANGEROUSFor many women, a wardrobe isn’t complete without a corset. It

can play up your assets and work as the perfect bedroompick-me-up for those wanting to indulge in some burlesque-

10 inside tips for selling your home yourself1 PRICE IT RIGHT:correctly selling your askingprice is critical. Selling yourprice too high can be ascostly as setting it too low.Home prices are determinedby fluctuations in themarketplace not by youremotional attachment or bywhat you feel your home iswor th. In order to establish arealistic price for your home, objectively compare the price, features and condition of allsimilar homes in both yourneighbourhood and othersimilar ones which have soldin recent months. It is alsoimpor tant for you to befamiliar with the terms ofeach potential sale. Terms areoften as impor tant as price intoday's market. Carefullybudget your selling costs andprepare a net proceeds sheetto calculate your bestestimate of what you will takeaway from your home sale.Prospective buyers may alsorequest this kind of analysisof buying costs.2 PREPARE YOUR HOMEFOR SALE:First impression is crucial.

Make sure your home make apositive statement bycarefully inspecting all detailsand viewing it through theobjective eyes of a buyer.Don't gloss over neededrepairs and fix-ups, as yourprospective buyers won't.Your job is to ensure that yourhome stands out favorablyfrom the competition.3 PREPARE YOURSELFWITH ALL NECESSARY LEGALDOCUMENTATION:Not surprisingly, there aremany impor tant legalcontracts and documentswhich you must assemble, complete and understand. Apar tial checklist of forms thatyou will require forprospective buyers and forlegal documentation is asfollows: seller diselosure, purchase contract, mor tgagepayoff, loan application, depositreceipt, property profile fact sheet, buyer's cost sheet, closing &settlement, personal property, exclusion list, property survey/plotplan, sellers statement ofrepresentation.4 MARKET YOUR HOMEEFFECTIVELY:

Beyond the sign you will puton your lawn, you should findeffective ways to spread theword about your home. Localbuyers can be reachedthrough the newspaper, butthis is only a small par t of themarket you are after. Be sureyou include the many buyerswho could already be workingwith a realtor. To locate them, target as many top agents aspossible in your market to seeif the criteria of their buyersmatches that of your home's.Because out-of town buyersare also an impor tant target, you should create a strategyto reach these people as well.Above all, you should be veryservice minded and make iteasy for pre-qualified buyersto view yours home. Ensurethere is always someoneavailable to answer the phone, pick up messages promptly, and be ready to give qualifiedprospects a tour of your homeas soon as possible.5 REMAIN OBJECTIVEDURING A SHOWING OFYOUR HOME:keep emotion out of the saleof your home, and the best

way to do this during ashowing is to remainphysically in the background. If a prospective buyer sayssomething negative aboutyour home, it is better tocounter-balance this point ofview by illustrating thepositives rather thanbecoming defensive.6 PRE-QUALIFY YOURPROSPECTS:Don't waste your timeenter taining buyers whocould never afford your home.Research their financialsteadiness with respect to jobsecurity. Salary, debits, liabilities and credit standing.7 NEGOTIATEEFFECTIVELY &KNOWLEDGEABLY:There will be many details toresolve before a sale can beconsidered final: price, terms, inspections, possession date, buyerconcerns and objections.Make sure you fullyunderstand the contract youhave drawn up so you can inturn explain details andramifications to the buyersand make any amendments to

the sale that are necessary. The contract you use shouldbe thoroughly examined byyour real estate attorney. Some real estate brokersmay be willing to help you dothis. While this is going on,manage the buyers interestin your home so that itdoesn't wane duringnegotiations.8 KNOW YOUR BUYER:Your objective duringnegotiations is to control thepace and set the duration.Try to determine what yourbuyer motivation is. Does heor she need to movequickly? Do they haveenough money to pay yourasking price? Knowing thisinformation will give you theadvantage in the negotiationbecause you will know upfront, what you will need todo in order to get what youwant.9 DON'T MOVE OUTBEFORE YOU SELL:Studies have shown that it ismore difficult to sell a homethat is vacant. It looksforlorn, forgotten simply netappealing. It could even costyou money. If you move, you're also telling buyers

that you have a new home andare motivated to sell fastwhich can, of course, givethem an advantage at thenegotiating table.1 0 KNOW WHY YOU'RESELLING AND KEEP IT TOYOURSELF: The flip side of"understanding your buyer" isto "understand yourself". Yourreasons for selling will affecteverything from your list priceto how much time and moneyyou will invest in getting yourhome ready for sale. Yourmotivation will help youdetermine what is moreimpor tant to you: the moneyyou walk away with, thelength of time your proper ty ison the market, or both.Different goals will dictatedifferent strategies. Assomeone who wants to sellwithout a real estate agent Inan effor t to save the commission,it is likely that money is one of yourprimary considerations. Whateveryour reasons, however, it is veryimportant to keep them toyourself so as not to placeyourself at a disadvantage atthe negotiation table. Whenasked, simply say yourhousing needs have changed.
