What is the grape harvest?

It is the gathering of grapes from the vines, from which we get

grape juice and wine. Normally, the harvesting season is between the months of July and October.

From where do we get this tradition?

The tradition originates from the celebrations in honor of the town of Logroño in the twelfth century. They had an annual

fair. This became an important venue of commerce.

A long time ago, as the men and women did not have machines,

they did it with their hands.

Mechanical Grape Harvesting

Mechanical harvesting is more economical than manual harvesting. To

perform this type of harvest, the crop needs to be formed

in a trellis.

4. The seeds, pulp, and skin are left. The liquid

must ferment for 15 days to clean it.

5. The sugar in the grapes turns into

alcohol. It is left in large, well-closed

barrels so the solids settle.

6. Clarification begins. The wine,

now bottled, should be kept in a cool,

dark place to age.

Grape Harvesting Festivals

Argentina celebrates a national holiday for the

harvest, in the province of Mendoza. It is the largest

festival in the world in honor of wine, and it is celebrated

during the months of January, February and March. It has

been held since 1936.
