The Arizona pool world is mourning the loss of Andrew Rocha. Andrew was taken from us suddenly and much too soon. I was hoping to be able to run photos from the two benefits that were held for Andrew’s family in May, but was unable to round up good photos.

Another full month this month with the ladies of the AWBT trying to keep that prize money in Arizona, and the players of the DCT trying to see if anyone can beat Jon Smith twice on a barbox. The AWBT is at Stingers on June 7th and 8th, and the DCT is at Skip & Jan’s on June 21st and 22nd.

We want to welcome new owners to Max & Ted’s 480, as well as The Break room. The Break Room has an all new menu and new kitchen staff waiting to serve you something great.

Until next time... - Mike

Stingers Three Man Team Event SplitSophia Morquecho continued her string of unique tournaments at Stingers in May. This time, it was 3-man teams playing singles 9-ball. Twelve teams com-peted in this event, racing to their team handicap - 8.

The hot seat match saw Short Side Shape (made up of Jason Polk, Steve Deluna & Alex Aroz) taking on The 3 Pocketeers (consisting of Mike Sandoval, Jack Scerca & Mark Catanzaro) in a race to 16. The 3 Pocketeers looked like they were in good shape, with a 15-11 lead. With their backs to the wall, Short Side Shape won four straight games to knot the score at hill-hill. The final game came down to Polk vs Sandoval, but Sandoval would not factor into the deci-sion as Polk broke and ran to a 3-9 combo-carom for the win.

On the one loss side, It’s Your Turn (Aaron Purdy, John Schramm & John Sau-er) were on a roll after losing to The Choke Artists early in the event. It’s Your Turn came back with four straight wins on the left side of the board, including a bit of revenge as they eliminated The Choke Artists in 4th place.

The hill-hill loss to Short Side Shape might have taken the wind of of The 3 Pocketeers sails early in the next match, as they came out of the gate slow and trailed It’s Your Turn 4-0. It’s Your Turn extended their lead to 9-2 before The 3 Pocketeers started their comeback. The 3 Pocketeers won 11 of the next 14 games to take the lead at 13-12, but It’s Your Turn was only racing to 14 and got to the hill at 13-13. The match would not go to hill-hill as Purdy beat Sandoval to give his team a 14-14 win.

The final match only went one set with It’s Your Turn winning the first set 14-8 and both teams agreeing on a 50/50 split of the first and second place prize money.

Complete Payouts:1st It’s Your Turn (Purdy, Schramm, Sauer) $9151st Short Side Shape (Polk, Deluna, Aroz) $9153rd The 3 Pocketeers (Sandoval, Scerca, Catanzaro) $360

Parrill Back In Knobbys Winners Circle

Chuck Parrill returned to the winners circle with an undefeated run through a field of twenty six players at Knobbbys’ 9 and under 8-ball event on May 3rd.

Parrill did not have an easy route through the brackets, but Bob Soto, Bruce Hi-rose, Hopell Ampongan and Ed Scott all failed to stop him. The hot-seat match between Parrill and Dana Moore went to Parrill 2-1.

On the one loss side, tournament director Sophia Morquecho was on a roll. After a loss to Ed Scott in the final eight on the winners side, Morquecho won three matches to earn a shot at Parrill in the finals.

Parrill broke and ran the first rack of the finals to take the lead, and then won a back and forth game two to capture first place; his third in five months.

Complete Payouts:1st Chuck Parrill $320 4th Ray Ryan $402nd Sophia Morquecho $170 5th Scott Perry $103rd Dana Moore $70 5th Ed Scott $10

Casual fans of the Desert Classic Tour will answer “Mitch Ellerman” or “Scott Frost” when asked about dominant players on the tour. The die hard fans though, know that Jon Smith is one of the absolute top barbox players in the state. Once again, Smith proved that fact with a win at the DCT’s tour stop at Stingers on May 17th and 18th.

It was a tough field of thirty nine players throw-ing their hats in the ring, hoping to take first place in this event. While the field was certainly a tough one (Assistant tour director Jude Espi-noza called it “One of the toughest fields in DCT history.”), all eyes lit up when Jose Parica came in the door looking to enter the event.

Fans who were hoping to see the Filipino legend in action had to get to Stingers early though, as Susan Williams handed Parica a 7-7 loss in the first round and Parica forfeited out of the tourna-ment from there.

Susan came close to making the Sunday matches as she followed up the win over Parica with a loss to husband Mike Williams, but then defeated Terry Mason, Brad Johnson and tour director Dennis Orender. Williams finished in 9th, after a close loss to Chuck Evans.

Tour points leader Mitch Ellerman also took a quick trip to the one loss side after losing his first match on Saturday to Brett Huth. Huth then went on to defeat Chuck Evans, before dropping back to back matches to Tres Kane and sole Tucson representative Rudy Alameda.

Sunday matches featured four undefeated players and four players already beaten once. On the winners side, Mike Williams beat recent Florida transplant Daric Craft 8-2 and Smith defeated New Mexico’s Brian Begay 8-4.

On the one loss side, Ellerman was still going strong after his early loss on Saturday. He elimi-nated Tres Kane 10-2 while Paul Grande was beating Chuck Evans 8-3.

In the next round, Ellerman sent Craft home in 5th place and Begay defeated Grande 8-6.

Next up on the one loss side was Begay ending Ellerman’s quest for a second straight DCT win with a hill-hill victory.

The match for the hot-seat started out with Wil-liams racing to a 4-1 lead, but Smith then took control and won five straight games to take a 6-4 lead. That would be the closest that Smith would get to the finish line though, as Williams won the

next four games to take the hot-seat 8-6.

The semi-final match between Smith and Begay couldn’t have been much closer. While Begay would never hold a lead, the score was tied at 2-2, 4-4 and 5-5 before Smith took control and sprinted ahead to take the match 8-6.

The true double elimination final saw Williams win the first game of the first set, but not win another game during that set. Smith had been struggling earlier with his break, but it came together mid set and he rattled off eight straight game wins for the 8-1 win and the players got ready for set #2.

The second set saw Williams bring the game that he had displayed all weekend long and he looked on his way to the finish line when he led the match at 6-4. That would be as close as he would get though, as Smith dug down and found yet another gear to win four straight games to take the match 8-6.

After the event, Smith had nothing but compliments for the tournament and DCT staff. “It was a tough field. There were easily twelve or more players that played 10 speed or better. Very well run tournament and the tables played great. The break was very impor-tant and it came together for me there at the end”.

Complete Payouts:1st Jon Smith $7602nd Mike Williams $4803rd Brian Begay $3204th Mitch Ellerman $2055th Daric Craft $1305th Paul Grande $1307th Chuck Evans $907th Tres Kane $90

Act II of the AWBT’s Vegas/Arizona rivalry took place at Bullshooters on May 3rd and 4th.

While the March event featured six of the toughest players Vegas has to offer; securing wins in both the main event and second chance tournament, the May event had a contingent of only two Vegas players (Rebecca Wagner & Tina Larsen). Those two players would be joined by twenty four other ladies, rep-resenting Arizona and New Mexico. Although the field from Vegas was much smaller than usual, Wagner proved one again that she is more than capable of handling the load all on her own.

As is always the case, Saturday play held it’s fair share of upsets and marquee matches. Susan Wilbur found herself with a tough draw in the first round, as she faced AWBT veteran Susan Mello. Wilbur sent Mello to the one loss side 7-5. Wilbur would not be able to get by Wagner in the second round though, and dropped a 7-2 decision. After the loss to Wilbur, Mello would defeat Carmen Osenton 7-2, but then fall to Tina Larsen in a 7-0 whitewash.

Another upset on day one was Sara Miller’s 7-4 loss to Jaye Succo. These two would face off again on Sunday though. After wins over Ebony Kelly and Donna Taylor on the one loss side, Miller would lose to Bernie Store in a close 7-5 match to finish in 9th place.

As play wound down on Saturday; Wagner defeated her opponent from the finals in March, Bernie Store, to remain undefeated. Wagner was joined on the winners side by Susan Williams, Amanda Pulley and Tucson’s Tracy Price.

On the one loss side, Store was defeating Miller to earn her place in Sunday’s matches. Also earning their places in Sunday’s one loss side matches were Tina Larsen, Sonia Flores and New Mexico’s Terri Johnson-McCauley.

Sunday dawned with eight players still holding on to dreams of winning the event. On the winners side, Wagner sent Pulley to the left side of the board with a 7-4 scoreline, while Williams sent Tracy Price to join Pulley with a 7-0 beat-ing.

This left two undefeated players, and Wagner would emerge as the winner in the hot-seat match with a very tough 7-6 win.

On the one loss side, Store sent Larsen back to Vegas in 7th place with a 7-5 score. Sonia Flores would also beat Johnson-McCauley with a 7-4 score.

Store kept her winning ways going with a 7-0 win over Tracy Price. Pulley had a tougher time, but emerged as the winner over Flores 7-4.

Complete Payouts:1st Rebecca Wagner $260 5th Sonia Flores $70 9th Jaye Succo $252nd Susan Williams $190 5th Tracy Price $70 9th Katherine Nelson $253rd Bernie Store $160 7th Terri Johnson-McCauley$50 9th Connie Soots $254th Amanda Pulley $110 7th Tina Larsen $50 9th Sara Miller $25

Pulley had to be pleased to have regained the form that she displayed all of last season, but she ran into a buzz saw in Bernie Store in the next round. Store controlled the match from the opening break and never looked back on the way to a 7-2 win.

Bernie looked to send Susan Williams to join Pulley on the rail, as she took a quick 2-0 lead in their semi-final match. Williams, however, had different plans for their match. Williams won the next four games to take a 4-2 lead. It would take the majority of the match for Store to catch up, but she managed to knot the score at 6-6 before Williams won the case game to win the match 7-6.

After the hill-hill match for the hot-seat, most fans were expecting another close match in the final race to nine between Wagner and Williams. That looked to be the case early when the players were tied 1-1, but then Wagner took com-plete control and won six games in a row for a dominating 7-1 lead. Williams regained her composure and tried to mount a comeback, getting back to within three at 8-5, but it was too little too late as Wagner took the match 9-5 to secure her second straight AWBT Tour stop and remain undefeated for the season so far.

After the event was over, Wagner commented “I was really off the whole tour-nament, until just before the finals when something clicked. That was the only match I felt good about.”

The second chance event on Sunday saw ten ladies come back to take their shot at $200 in prize money. The finals would come down to a rematch of Saturday’s Sara Miller/Jaye Succo match. Succo defeated Miller on Saturday and repeated that win on Sunday with a 5-2 victory for first place.

Assistant Tour director Tres Kane gave his thanks to Mike and Julie Bates, and the staff of Bullshooters for hosting and adding $300 to the main event and $100 to the second chance event.

He also thanked Jose Gonzales of Las Glorias Grille for adding $100 to the main event.

Finally, Kane thanked his partner Kristie Ortega and her man Scott for running another fine event.

The next AWBT event is at Stingers on June 7th and 8th for bar table 8-Ball. Will anyone be able to stop Wagner once, let alone twice in that event? Wagner made her plans for this year clear after the tournament when she said “We were very sad that the whole Vegas crew couldn’t come out this time, but we will be out in full force for the next event. We are going for a Vegas clean sweep of the 2014 season.”

Top Eight Teams:1st The Brady Bunch – Brady Williams, Anthony Tomei & Chris Miller $1,6052nd Shoot the Moon – Eugene Hemphill, Darren Bradford, Phil Anderson & Lisa Bradford $9763rd DILLIGAF – Ben Sutherland, Jason Burkhart & Steve Blackburn $8144th My Two Dads – Ryan Levengood, Scott Gwilliam & Chris Negrin $7255th Doc’s Gang – Doc Rogers, Tracy Rogers, Doug Molhook & Tom Clark $3466th No Name – Eric McKay, Gary Wimmer, Arnold Shiplet & Kip Anderson $2007th Tough Times – Skip Bales, Terry Lemke & Kevin Phillips $1757th 3 Guns – John Ilk, Thoi Truong & Fernando Prats $241

Congratulations to Brady Williams, Anthony Tomei & Chris Miller of The Brady Bunch from Jester’s Billiards! They went 5-1 on their way to winning $1605 in prize money and became the Spring 2014 AZPL State Champions!

The fun began on Friday night at Stinger’s Sports Bar & Grill with 40 players signing up for a blind draw scotch doubles/singles tournament. It was a race to 2, 3 or 4 on both sides as players were paired up on the scotch side. With $600 in prize money the tournament paid out 6 players. The team of Darrel Bednarek & Brandon Keiser went 4-0 to take the hot seat and wait it out on the scotch side. In Scotch Doubles/Singles when your scotch team loses you ditch your partner and play on the losers side in what is now a singles tournament. The final two players team up to take on the winner of the Scotch side. Those two players were JR Burkhart & Joe Campbell. Darrel & Brandon won winning $300 in prize money and taking 1st! JR & Joe finished 2nd with $200! 3rd & 4th place from the singles side was Steve Blackburn & Tim Ashley with each getting $50.

That wasn’t all the fun! 24 players competed in the 8-Ball Break & Run Derby on Friday night too! Eric Nordstrom & Paul Sanborn tied for the lead in the opening round with 29 points. Heading into the 2nd round there were now 16 players. Eric Nordstrom added 31 to his score for 60 points to tie but Paul wasn’t so lucky scoring just 9 but still in the top 3 as no one scored closer than 34 total points. Tying Eric at 60 was Steve Blackburn, who scored 38! The top 10 players advanced to the 3rd round and Eric got 30 to set a new record for total points with 90! Also passing the old record was Steve Blackburn who added 20 for a total score of 80! Chris Negrin scored 19 for a total of 49 but Paul scored 12 this time for a total score of 50 to barely make it to the top 3! In the final round the points reset to zero and this time it was all Steve to win the derby! Paul took 2nd with Eric finishing 3rd!

And last but not least there was the Wild Card Tournament! Larry, Darryl & Darryl won the wild card the easy way – by showing up! They were the only team that showed allowing them to take it uncontested. Congratulations to Michael Russell, Dwayne Beagle & Michael Kerin! With the win they get to claim the 32nd spot in the champion-ships and a 9am start time! Starting with the Sum-mer season the Wild Card tournament will be open to any AZPL alumni players to participate. Details below!

Which brings us to Saturday!!! 9am and 8 teams ready to play! Out of those 8, Mixed Nuts won 3 in a row before losing to Evil Ways. They ended up finishing 4th statistically with a 4-2 record! Doc’s Gang went 6-0 before losing to DILLIGAF and finishing 7-2. They also had the longest win-ning streak of the tournament and most overall wins! DILLIGAF went 5-2 and lead all teams with a 69% win ratio and held their opponents to an average score of just 43 points! Going unde-feated was Shoot the Moon and the Brady Bunch who got to meet up on Sunday at 2 to battle it out on the winner’s side! Shoot the Moon defeated

DILLIGAF twice, the first time 55-21 with 3 10-0s holding Jason to zero! Oscar Avila Sr was the tour-nament MVP going 15-1 while outscoring his op-ponents 157-42 for the Mixed Nuts! Cathy Beyale was the women’s MVP going 9-3 while scoring 105 points, 2 30s and a 10-0 for I’m With Them Eh! Doug Molhook won 16 games for Doc’s Gang to lead the tourney in wins and most points with 205. Jason Burkhart of DILLIGAF led all players with 6 10-0 games! Seven players hit 8-ball breaks in the event – Arnold Shiplett, Calvin Balcom, Darrel Bednarek, Jason Burkhart, Justin King, Rick Albertson & Thoi Truong!

On Sunday the action started at 10am with a con-tinuation of the Championships and a new event, the 2nd Chance Tournament. 6 teams participated in the second chance with Pete Williams, Harold Lyons & Laura Boothroyd of Evil Ways defeating Curtis Neal, Joe Granillo & Amado Martinez of Chicken Dicks by coin flip as they decided to split the cash at $150 each.

DILLIGAF started off Sunday with 3 straight wins vs Tough Times, Doc’s Gang and My Two Dads, winning each by more than 30 points to close out the left side of the bracket and await the loser between Shoot the Moon & the Brady Bunch. The Brady Bunch won it in 7 games with a 20-4 run in games 6-7 to close it out 63-41. The loss by Shoot the Moon set up a rematch against DILLIGAF. It was win or go home. DILLIGAF came on strong taking the first round 30-18 but the Moons went 40-10 to take a 58-40 lead with

2 games to go. Darren put it away with a 10-1 against Steve to take a 68-41 lead and the win! Now for another rematch, this time the Moons Vs the Bradys. In the first match the Brady Bunch had a 57-49 lead after 7 games but Darren & Eugene got a pair of 10-2s to pull out the win 69-61 to set up another rematch! In the first round the Bradys took a 22-19 lead with a pair of 10s. In the next round it was the Moons turn with a 23-19 run to take a 1 point lead going into the 3rd round for the 3x Champs! In the 3rd round Anthony defeated Darren 10-7 to take back the lead which set up Chris Miller to win it all with a 10-2 run vs Phil Anderson and become the Spring 2014 AZPL State Champions!!!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Champi-onships! It was great seeing so many of you there! Thanks to everyone at Stinger’s for doing their best to put on a great show! Everyone did a great job and the place looked great! And of course, thanks to Jen for putting up with me all weekend. Keep the 12. ;)

APA Single Nationals Congratulations to Ken Hacker who placed 5th in the APA Single Nationals Tournament held in Las Vegas Nevada last month. Ken competed in the 8 Ball competition with 73 other players of his same skill level. The APA uses a handi-capping system that allows all players to compete at a skill level that matches their ability so that everyone can compete fairly.

While Ken placed highest in the competition of all the phoenix players, our other players also did quite well.

Karloz Chavez played as a skill level 7 in 8 Ball and a 9 in 9 Ball, which is the highest skill levels that APA has to offer in the respective formats. Karloz was able to place 33rd in both formats.

Christy Sprong represented us in 9 Ball in the Skill level 4 tier and also placed 33rd out of 103 players.

David Rayner also made a nice showing placing 17th out of 86 players in the skill level 7 tier.

In all, Phoenix Metro APA sent 7 singles and 4 Scotch Doubles teams to the APA National Tournament this year. The Scotch Doubles tournament is incor-porated into the Singles program each April- May at the APA Single National Tournament. APA pays for the participants to travel, stay and play in the event. Singles players qualify on a local board, and then win at the Regional level, and you are off to Vegas on the APA. All this for just $15 cost to play on the local board with 7 other players.

The 8 Ball Scotch Doubles teams were Eric Olivieri playing with Stephanie Benavides, and Gary Wheeler and his wife Nicole. They play on a five person team and they also compete on a scotch doubles team that plays at Main Street Billiards on Monday nights. It is from this Scotch Doubles division that they qualified to compete in Vegas. The Single National Tournament is the prequel to the Team Nationals that will be played in August. The APA Team Nationals is listed in the ‘Guinness Book of World Records ‘as the largest pool tournament in the world. Over 1400 teams competed in last year’s event and over $1.7 mil-lion was given out in all the National events.

Anyone interested in joining the APA Pool League can contact your local APA League Operators.

Good Mechanics, Step One

By Roger LongCertified Instructor

In my last article I talked about certain me-chanics being very helpful in the maintenance of good fundamentals, and good fundamentals being the certain properties than make for a good, consistent stroke. For review, I’ll iden-tify the “fundamentals” once again. They are: Straight Alignment, Level Cue, Staying Down, and Following Through.

Now let’s take a closer look at what I mean by straight alignment. (The diagrams below assume that the player is right-handed, so just reverse everything if you are left-handed.)

Diagram A depicts what instructional books and videos mean when they say that align-ment should be “in one plane”. This is what

you should want your alignment to look like if you could see yourself from an overhead view. It shows five points of alignment: the bridge hand, the chin (or dominant eye), the right shoulder, the right elbow, and the right hand. These should all be aligned together. The first four points should remain locked in place while the grip hand and lower arm execute the stroke.

When this alignment technique is properly em-ployed, it will provide the most accurate shot achievable because it eliminates all except the essential body movements; the grip hand will simply be pulled straight back, and then will be pushed straight forward.

Diagram B shows a back view of the lower arm alignment. This is the arm position that you should use in conjunction with a pendulum stroke. If you line up everything; bridge hand, chin, right shoulder, right elbow, wrist, and hand, all in one vertical plane, all you will have to do is pull the stick straight back, and then let it go straight forward. Nothing moves except the forearm and hand. That is the simplest way to achieve a straight stroke.

It should be easy to see that if the lower part of the arm is angled in towards the body, or out away from the body, while everything else is lined up and held in a vertical plane, then, during the stroke, the grip hand would have to swing in an arcing motion, causing the tip of the cue to waver from side to side.

In the next article, we’ll look at a couple more mechanical practices that can help you develop better fundamentals.

River City Scotch Split

River City’s 15 & under Scotch Doubles Tournament was held on May 17th with fifteen teams competing for over $1,200 in prize money.

The hot seat match found Tony Yuzuik and Tim Biggs playing Chet Lahti and Mike Roman. The match went 7-4 with Tony and Tim going to the one loss side.

Micah Fackiner and Daniel Jaworowski defeated Tony and Tim for a chance to meet Chet and Mike in the finals. For their efforts, Tony and Tim claimed 3rd and took home $160.

In the final match, Micah and Daniel defeated Chet and Mike in the first set. Due to the lateness of the hour, both teams decided to split. Each team took home $550.

As always, Greg and his staff put on a great tournament and provided excellent service.

Complete Payouts:1st Mike Roman & Chet Lahti $5501st Micah Fackiner & Daniel Jaworowski $5503rd Tim Biggs & Tony Yuzuik $160

Groggys Scotch Split

Dave Albrecht & Jeff Vikete teamed up for an undefeated run and the biggest portion of the prize money in a split finish at Groggys 14 and under scotch doubles event on May 10th.

Albrecht & Vikete would dominate their matches, allowing only one team to get within four games of them all day. They clinched the hot-seat with an 8-2 win over Ray Shaban & Rob Villines.

On the one loss side, Colin Sayler & Tim Biggs were eliminating Robin Clark & Chuck Bobbitt in 4th place. Colin & Tim would settle for third place, as they lost to Ray & Rob 8-2 in the semi final match.

Instead of playing out the two set final match, the final two teams agreed on a $400/$280 split.

Complete Payouts:1st Dave Albrecht & Jeff Vikete $4001st Ray Shaban & Rob Villines $2803rd Colin Sayler & Tim Biggs $1054th Chuck Bobbitt & Robin Clark $40

Another Groggys Scotch Split

Skyler Flaherty & Ricky Tyrell teamed up to take the hot-seat and then earn a share of first place at Groggys 15 & under scotch doubles tournament on May 3rd.

Skyler & Ricky were making quick work of opponents all day, and took the hot-seat with a convincing 8-4 win over Joe Avalos and Mark Catanzaro.

After the loss to Skyler & Ricky, Joe & Mark forfeited in third place. That meant that BBQ & Joe D’Aguanno would just have to get past Andy Benavidez & Jason Shriner to earn their spot in the finals. They did that with an 8-4 score line.

The finals were close early, but BBQ & Joe took control at 5-5 to win the first set 8-5. Both teams agreed on a 50/50 split from there.

Complete Payouts:1st Skyler Flaherty & Ricky Tyrell $3001st BBQ & Joe D’Aguanno $3003rd Joe Avalos and Mark Catanzaro $854th Andy Benavidez & Jason Shriner $35

Mike, I just starting playing darts, is it better to play leagues or tournaments to get better?

Good question! Even though I will get a lot of arguments on this, I believe leagues are what makes a player better.

You can go to a tournament and no matter how good you shoot you may only play two matches. In league no matter how good or bad you throw you get to play all the games. Plus even in handicapped leagues you have a challenge to beat the other team. You can play with several partners and learn the game how different players play. You can decide the way you want to approach the game. You will play play-ers that always point first, players that always close first and players who randomly do what they think is best. I like a mix because it really depends who you are playing and who

is shooting behind you. You can take chances when you are ahead of a lower player, and if a strong player is next you have to consider that as well. It is always great to hit the big shot, but not always smart.

In a league you have so many more games to improve your skills and you have different levels of opponents to play against. In our masters league we have had players start out as 2.8 shooters and end up Master’s Captains at 4.5 or better. Play better players, play better darts. You should also take something from each match and or game. Ask yourself why would a player take a certain shot. They may have a total different strategy, ask them, most players do not mind talking about the game. So in ending I believe league is the place to hone your skills and tourna-ments are where you learn to play with pressure. They are both great if you remember one thing, if your not having fun something is wrong. These are my thoughts and I may be wrong , but I doubt it..

Anderson Double Dips Sexton

Ten players ponied up $100 each to compete in Bullshooters’ new “King of the Hill” 9’s & Under 9-Ball event on May 18th, and the lone seven rated player in the field (Will Sexton) came one match short of first place.

Sexton took the hot-seat with a 7-4 win over Lee Brown, but couldn’t hold off Ryan Anderson in the finals. Anderson scored back to back 9-5 wins over Sex-ton in the finals.

Brown settled for third place in a forfeit to Anderson on the one loss side.

The next King of the Hill event at Bullshooters is scheduled for June 15th and will be limited to the first sixteen paid players.

“Girl Power” at Kittys

Girl Power was in full effect at Kitty’s 12 & Under Scotch Doubles event on May 24th, when Michelle Micik & Donna Taylor teamed up to run over the field of sixteen teams. Not only did Michelle & Donna go undefeated, but they never let an opposing team reach the hill against them all day.

The hot-seat went to Michelle & Donna after a 7-4 win over Rich Calvery & Wizzard.

On the one loss side, Emmitt Webb & Dani Maher were on a four match win-ning streak, but they fell to Rich & Wizzard 7-4 to set up a rematch in the finals.

If the wait in the hot-seat cooled down the ladies game, it didn’t show in the finals as they cruised to a 7-2 win for first place.

Pettipiece Wins at Kolbys

Kolby’s Corner Pocket got back into the one pocket tournament business in May with eleven players on May 3rd.

Bernie Pettipiece was the man to beat all day and took the hot-seat with a hill hill win over Mike Sandoval. After the loss, Sandoval settled for third place and left.

On the one loss side, Mike Dickenson was making up for his earlier loss to San-doval. Dickenson eliminated Sammy Martinez and Scott Frost to earn his place in the finals.

The finals was a marathon with Bernie & Mike fighting to hill-hill after almost 3 hours. Just as the fans were getting settled expecting a long final game, Bernie found a shot and ran out the rack in no time for the 3-2 win and first place.

Complete Payouts:1st Bernie Pettipiece $2002nd Mike Dickenson $1303rd Mike Sandoval $70
