3 THE HIMALAYAN MAIL JAMMU WEDNESDAY JUNE 03, 2020 JAMMU & KASHMIR JAMMU, JUNE 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has evacuated about 1,06,102 JK residents, stranded in other parts of the country due to COVID lockdown, via Lakhanpur and through special trains and buses till date amid strict observance of all necessary guidelines and Standard Oper- ating Procedures. As per the official data received in this re- gard, the administrations of Jammu and Kashmir districts have received 40 special trains at Jammu and Udhampur railway sta- tions from different states and UTs, so far, with about 31786 stranded passengers while about 74,316 persons have been evacuated by the government through Lakhanpur till date. Therefore, a total of about 106,102 J&K residents stranded outside UT have been brought back to the UT by the Jammu and Kashmir government by 40 special trains and a fleet of buses through Lakhanpur af- ter strictly observing all necessary preven- tive measures regarding the Virus. As per the detailed break up about the fig- ures, about 914 stranded passengers have entered through Lakhanpur from June 1 to June 2 morning while 752 passengers have reached today in the 20th Delhi COVID spe- cial train at Jammu. So far, 20 trains have reached Jammu with a total of 16,146 stranded passengers belonging to different districts while 15,640 passengers have reached Udhampur in 20 Shramik special trains, so far. As per the official communiqué, of 74,316 returnees evacuated through Lakhanpur till June 1, 2020 (morning) included 18962 from Punjab; 22015 from Himachal Pardesh, 25 from Andhra Pardesh, 6988 from Delhi, 1397 from Gujrat, 3280 from Ra- jasthan, 4296 from Haryana, 162 from Chat- tisgarh, 3612 from Uttarakhand, 1088 from Maharashtra, 4703 from Uttar Pradesh, 64 from Odisha, 267 from Assam and 1178 from Madhya Pradesh, 88 from Dehradun, 1419 from Chandigarh, 696 from Telengana, 122 from Karnataka, 21 from Tamilnadu, 52 from Chennai, 325 from Bihar, 166 from West Bengal, 113 from Jharkhand, 3 from Nepal, 3 from Goa and 3271 from other states and UTs. PM-JAY is the worlds largest health assurance scheme which covers a population of the combined size of USA, Mexico and Canada. The objective of this scheme is to provide cashless and free health benefits to the entitled beneficiaries. Ac- cording to the Socio-Eco- nomic Caste Census (SECC) 6.30 lakh poor and vulnera- ble families of Jammu and Kashmir are entitled to it. He also lauded the efforts of Puneet Mahajan for preparing Golden Cards of the beneficiaries free of cost. Kaul, on the occasion, said that the people should opt for every welfare scheme. He re- quested the BJP workers to assist the agency to reach out to masses. He said that this will ensure that the benefit of the schemes will reach the most deserving person and the intended beneficiary. He also called for active partici- pation of the BJP workers to make the public aware about the other Centrally spon- sored welfare schemes. The meeting held thread- bare discussion on the rev- enue collections, resump- tion of work on Projects and targets set for completion of languishing projects. Modalities for expediting the works on ongoing cen- trally sponsored schemes aimed at strengthening transmission and distribu- tion network were dis- cussed in detail. Strength- ening of transformer repair workshops and rationaliza- tion of power distribution to avoid overloading were other issues which were taken up for discussion. Chief Engineer, JPDCL, Gurmeet Singh, briefed the meeting about division wise targets for revenue realiza- tion and inspections con- ducted. The meeting also reviewed sub division wise revenue targets and realiza- tion for last year and cur- rent year and resumption of work on the projects stopped due to covid-19 pandemic. The Director inspected several constructions and other developmental works on drains, culverts, nallahs, roads and khuls etc. being executed under MGN- REGA. He under-took the tour of rural areas outside contain- ment zones to take first hand appraisal of the eco- nomic hardships being faced by the public due to lockdown period. Sarwar said that the de- partment’s endeavor is to give importance to rural economy and facilitate em- ployment of labor in rural areas, “developmental ac- tivities in the district has been resumed under flag- ship employment guarantee scheme MGNREGA to pro- vide much needed man- days to rural populace amid covid-19 pandemic to miti- gate their financial crisis,” he added. Director said that works are being executed as per the guidelines issued by the government for protection against covid-19 pandemic besides the department is also actively involved in dis- tribution of masks among the rural masses and strictly follow the advisories and maintaining social distance to prevent transmission of virus. He said a bridge at Wachi is coming up with an esti- mated cost of Rs 40 lac and will be completed within the stipulated time frame in current financial year. On the occasion, Director interacted with the locals, gave patient hearing to their demands and assured them for early redressal of their grievances. He said that Rural Devel- opment Department is playing a vital role in the containment of Coron- avirus in rural areas through mass awareness among the people and the department is working in close coordination with dis- trict administration in the management and contain- ment of Covid-19 in rural areas. Director said that among 98 panchayat halqas of the district, the work on 94 pan- chayat halqas is in progress while work on rest of the panchayat halqas declared as red zones will be started after they are declared as green zones. Later, during a meeting with District Development Commissioner Shopian and district officers, threadbare discussion were held on de- velopmental and other works in the district. RDD director takes stock of dev works at Shopian Rana cautions against reopening of schools JAMMU JUNE 02: National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today exhorted Jammu and Kashmir administration to exercise caution while arriv- ing at a decision to reopen schools in the middle of current month amid unfortunate increase in the COVID-19 cases, saying any wrong move could be detrimental for students at their tender ages. “Mere thought of reopening schools seems to be premature as most of the schools lack neces- sary infrastructural facilities to enforce mandatory preven- tive protocols, more importantly ensuring distance”, Mr Rana said in a statement while reacting to the move of the ad- ministration in this regard, adding that non-adherence of do’s and don’ts could negate the efforts of containing the spread of pandemic.
