Welcome to AIESEC Twente! Dear student, Congratulations! By reading this booklet you have taken the first step to being part of the AIESEC Twente board! Here you will find the details on what we do, what positions will be vacant and the expectations there are from you as a board member. However I will start with something else, because AIESEC is different from many other organizations here at university. AIESEC is an organization with a clear purpose This means that we focus a lot on how you develop personally as well as professionally. We provide trainings, you get personal coaching, and you create your own opportunities to learn what you want to learn! For sure you get to know more about yourself and you will be guided in putting this into words (very convenient for a job interview!). You attend conferences nationally and can even do so internationally! In this way you get in contact with different companies (future employer maybe?) and cultures. AIESEC is the 2nd -largest NGO in the world and offers an, international platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. We develop responsible, global-minded leaders through our exchange programs, our board positions, and our Make A Move career events. In 2015, AIESEC is present in more than 125 countries and has over 100,000 members across the world. Together, we develop leadership for a positive impact on society.

The History of AIESEC In 1948, seven economics and business students of Western Europe came

together in Stockholm. They founded of what has grown out to be the largest

international student association of the world: AIESEC.

AIESEC is an acronym for Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences

Economiques et Commerciales: an organisation set up for students in

economics, business and related studies. Nowadays, AIESEC is no longer strictly

an economics and business related organization, it is open for students of every

study and we are now knows as just AIESEC.

With the idea of recovering the good relations between European countries, the

founders of AIESEC aimed for peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential.

They believed they would achieve this goal by giving individuals the

experience of living and working abroad themselves. By giving people

cultural experiences, they would create cultural understanding.

Currently AIESEC has grown from 7 to over 125 countries. AIESEC has become

the largest student association in the world, with almost 100,000 active

members at this very moment. It forms an international platform for young

people to discover and develop their potential to provide leadership, and

have a positive impact on society.

Now let’s talk about Make a Move. AIESEC The Netherlands started from 1967

with organizing events that would bring students and companies closer

together. Confusion rose about whether AIESEC was the organization for

internships or career weeks. Therefore in 2002 Make a Move was born: the

exclusive Dutch brand for career-events. However until today, Make a Move is

still part of the AIESEC board in the Netherlands.

- Celebrate success - Great people - Work hard, play hard

Besides a learning experience, an AIESEC board year means loads of fun. To enjoy participation many social activities are organized. These include team weekends, dinners, team building activities, conferences, weekly drinks and more. You will get to know and work together with many great people. At AIESEC we aim to celebrate results, achievements and success. 11

The 2 teams of AIESEC Twente Outgoing Exchange This team focuses on sending students from Enschede abroad to get them in a new environment stimulating them to get out of their comfort zone and learn about themselves as well as people from a different culture. This can be done through GCDP (Global Community Development Programs), which are short voluntary internships of 6-8 weeks or through GIP (Global Internship Program) which are professional internships at companies for about 3 months to a year.

Incoming Exchange This team is all about getting foreign students and experience in the Netherlands and Enschede. The team focuses on acquiring companies that would take a trainee and finding a suitable trainee for them. Last but not least, they take care of the trainee here in Enschede to give them a great time and help them achieve their goals.

The teams are led by the Executive Board (EB) who works fulltime. The EB exists out of the Local Committee President, the Vice President Finance, External Relations and information technology and one Vice President of each team. During one year members of the EB will work for AIESEC every day and lead a team into getting to the next level.

The full time positions offer you different opportunities than the part-time functions will. - First of all the position will provide you with a leadership role. This means you lead,

coach, track and motivate your part time members. This happens on team level as well as personal level. You will build soft skills that you can apply in many aspects of your life.

- You are main responsible for the strategy of the local entity. You get the chance to develop it, implement it, and learn what the role the different hierarchy levels play in this. Will the members execute just any of your plans?

- It gives you the chance to take on more international opportunities! Since you are a full- timer and are therefore more flexible with your schedule, it is easier to attend conferences internationally, or maybe even give trainings at those conferences!

As well you are challenged to attend network events or talk to key people in the university. A great way to develop your professional communication skills!

For AIESEC in general, it consists mostly on the reception of the interns, promotion activities and cross-functional taskforces where you are being challenged to lead extra projects (e.g. Batavierenrace, newsletter, LCweekend). On a daily basis, we run our processes, we talk to students, to companies, we write strategy, we talk to the network, we send and receive students to and from all around the world, we organize events and of course, we have a lot of fun. In AIESEC, we work hard and we play hard. You are the one in charge of your AIESEC experience. This means that if you want to learn something, you can create this opportunity (together with the president or your team coordinator). You want to get better at presenting? We organize a training for you. We will stimulate you to practice. You want to learn how to lead a team? You can become president of a taskforce for a project. National and international involvement

In a year as board member for AIESEC Twente, you will also be part of a national and international network. You’ll have the opportunity to meet many new people, make close friends, discuss personal and professional (AIESEC) issues with others, interact and simply expand your network! National involvement National conferences During these multiple-day conferences (organized twice a year) all the AIESEC board members gather together, to get to know each other and to share experiences. These days consist of trainings and strategic sessions, where we’re all discussing the short and long term strategic direction of AIESEC the Netherlands. And most of all, it is all about fun and getting to know new people! Convents & Reception Weekends Every six weeks, the full time boards (EBs) gather for convents in one of our eleven cities. We discuss progress and strategies in our functional areas and align our operations nationally. Following convents, we organize Reception Weekends. These two-day events bring together (full and part time) members of AIESEC the Netherlands and our international trainees, for a weekend full of bonding and fun! International Conferences Every year, AIESEC organizes around 500 international conferences globally! Every member of AIESEC is able to attend these amazing conferences. The special thing about such a conference is that you will be able to interact with hundreds of students from all across the world. In every AIESEC conference, we pay a lot of attention to personal development and leadership. It is a unique experience to learn more about other cultures and countries together with students who do the same work for AIESEC but in a completely different country and reality. Next to that, it is really amazing to meet so many people and to build a great international network. You will have the opportunity to go to as many conferences as you like! We will also attend an international conference with the whole Local Committee, probably in Spring 2016. Expectations

What does AIESEC expect from you?

If you are interested in joining AIESEC Twente, these are some things we expect from

you:

Enthusiastic students with a good motivation for joining AIESEC Students with a global view and international interest, as you will meet international trainees The ability to look beyond your own function and contribute to the local

committee as a whole

Students that have a connection to the vision and values of our organization

Team players Ambitious people who want to achieve something in today’s world Pro-activity

Good social skills

The ability to cope with stress Some more practical details concerning the member profile of AIESEC:

You spend around 15 hours a week on AIESEC as a part-time board member. These hours include Monday evening meetings, trainings, general promotional activities and activities with the trainees. Don’t be too scared by this number. The part time board is supposed to be something to do aside of your studies. Some positions are more flexible than others, some more related to peak periods. Please talk to the current board about this.

It is possible for every university student to apply (all studies and faculties).

If you decide to apply, you are asked to apply for AIESEC in general, but you can indicate your preference for a certain team or position.

If selected you will be a member of AIESEC for the duration of 1 year. Monday evenings will then become your AIESEC evenings as we have meetings every

Monday 20.00 – 22.00 (and drinks afterwards)! A team meeting in the lunch break in one of the days ( most of the time on Monday)
