Our Eastern Cape Barista winners from the Homemakers Expo 2014 recently returned from Johannesburg where they battled it out for national honours against other regional Barista’s.

The Friendly City was represented with passion and fl are by our top 6 Barista’s from the Expo. The Top 6 from our region that wowed World Barista Championship judges at the SCASA (Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa) National Barista Competition were: 1. Byron Keet from Urban Espress Coffee Co 2. Mike Chizeya from Tribecca Woolworths Café 3. Sisa Mapetu from Hand Made Coffees 4. Luyanda Gxukuma from Radisson Blu 5. Lennox Soul Tribecca Woolworths Café 6. Lizo Songwiqi from Sun International Boardwalk Hotel

As the Eastern Cape we can be very proud that Byron Keet won the title of SA National Latte Art Champion. Byron was initially at Urban Espress Coffee Co, but is now a Barista Trainer for Famous Brands in the EC. He will represent SA in June next year in Sweden at the World Latte Art Championships.Donovan McLagan, who also hails from PE, won the National Cup Tasters title and will represent SA in Sweden as well at the World Cup Tasters Champ. He is still the highest ranked South African on the World Coffee stage after winning the National SA title in 2012 and being placed 5th in the world at the World Cup Tasters that year. Donovan is the owner of Urban Espress Coffee Co and of Primo Coffee Solutions. The PE Homemakers Expo is defi nitely a wonderful platform for launching national champions and we look forward to hosting another incredible festival of coffee in 2015 at the Boardwalk. We hope to have Ishan Natalie of Tribecca Woolworths, who is the New National Barista Champion, at the EC Championships next year. Ishan will represent SA at the World Barista Champs in Seatlle, USA next year. Make sure to save the dates:
