Whether you’re doing it on your stoep in Strandfontein, on your patio in Pretoria or at your mother’s cousin’s uncle’s house in Kraaifontein, there’s nothing better than the smell of a chop sizzling on the coals.

And, as a bonus, we all get the day off, as our government has decided to set 24 September aside for all South Africans to celebrate our rich heritage.

While browsing the internet, I came across braai.com,

THE BENEFITS OF INVESTING IN PROPERTY Buying an investment property doesn’t have to be an overwhelming decision because we can assist you every step of the way. Here at RE/MAX, our team is geared to help you with this decision and help ensure you invest in property which will benefit you financially in the long run. Anyone can invest, not just the extremely wealthy. You don’t need large sums of money to be able to get involved with real estate.

InvestingInvesting in real estate is a safe investment because you are in full control of your property assets, meaning you are essentially the CEO of your investments, where other investments may be at the mercy of external forces. The younger you start to invest in property, the better. There are tons of ways in which you can add value to your property, which then increases the value and your returns on the investment.

Your property could serve as a retirement plan, if it produces a good rental income. The property could also increase in value, which would give you a good return when selling it in the future. The rental income you receive from your property also allows you to borrow and then benefit by helping you pay the interest on your bond.

TheThe majority of us will not gain wealth overnight, it takes long term investing and a diverse portfolio to create wealth, but property in-vestment is an essential part of this portfolio. Contact RE/MAX today and let an experienced professional help guide you through the process of investing in property to become a millionaire. Don’t wait any longer, make that call today.

This little printer lets users choose any color on the web, or in the real world, and using simple already-existing software, print that color into a blush, eye shadow, lip gloss or any other type of makeup.

See, most makeup comes from the same basic substrates, from high-end labels like Chanel all the way down to the cheap stuff available at drug stores. Founder Grace Choi sources the same substrate for the Mink so that users can turn any image into any kind of makeup.

The idea here is that consumers are increasingly focused on instant gratification and DIY solutions. Choi also noticed that makeup consumers aren’t always loyal to certain brands, but rather

focused on convenience. With Mink, users can satisfy the desire for instant gratification while still having access to any color in the world at an affordable price.

Simply choose a color on a website, Pinterest board, or snap one with your phone in the real world, and use any color picker to locate the hex code of the color. Once you have the code, you can put it into any other program like Photoshop or Paint and simply press print.

The company is targeting the younger, 13-21 demographic who are less ingrained in their habits with certain brands and retailers.

Currently, the Mink is still a

prototype, which is set to retail at $300 (approx. R3000) and although the prices of the ink and raw materials aren’t available yet, we totally think Grace Choi is on to something big. What would you want to print first? Your own eyeshadow? Or what about a blusher? The options are endless.

The future of makeup ... in 3D!3D printing is all the rage these days, but for now, it’s mostly centered around little plastic doo-dads. The MINK, is a bit different.

Did you know that your daily nutrition affects your skin condition? In the case of healthy nutrition, you will notice smooth, moist, fresh and vital skin. On the other hand, poor nutrition and the lack of essential nutrients lead to a pale, rough, dehydrated and irritated skin.

And during summer’s high temperatures and humidity, you should take extra care of our skin in order to stay fresh, healthy and free of blemishes. The attention you give your skin is even more important, when you are exposed to the sun.Sun rays become extremely destructive when:• The skin is exposed to the sun for long periods• The skin is exposed to the sun between 10am and 2pm• When the skin is dehydrated and in need of water (in case you are not drinking enough water)

Here are some tips for you to keep your skin looking fresh this summer:1. Drink enough water for a healthy body and skin (8 glasses of water daily, besidesjuicesorotherfluids).2. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially those which are rich in vitamin C, which plays a major role in keeping the skin looking healthy. Eat more oranges, melon, broccoli, and sweet pepper.3. Enrich your diet with foods that are rich in antioxidants that help in destroying the cancerous cells caused by ultraviolet rays. Examples of these foods: colored fruits and vegetables (green, orange and

red), nuts and seeds.4. Eat vitamin E-rich foods, such as almonds, walnuts, and avocado. Vitamin E helps keep the skin moist and prevents its dehydration.5. Avoid highly salted foods, and avoid adding extra salt to your food; high salt intake leads to water retention and bloating (in particular your hands and feet), especially if you are not drinking enough water.6. Don’t get exposed to direct sunlight, especially at peak hours. Make sure that you apply sun screen, even if you only get exposed to the sun for a short period.

Take care and enjoy summer fun. Just because there are so many things you need to remember and follow doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go out and enjoy yourself during summer. It is one of the most active times of the year and can provide you with a good boost of energy while keeping you entertained. So, don’t worry, get your summer stuff out and get set for season of fun, as long as you keep your skin healthy andfine.

As winter begins to wind down and the first days of summer are fast approaching, taking extra care of your skin becomes even more important.

This is especially essential because your skin is the “mirror of your body, which strongly reflects your inner state and body needs”.

YOU WILL NEED:• Ceramic or porcelain crockery• Stamp• Ink and pad• CPG (Ceramic, Porcelain, Glass) Podge

The crockery used in this DIY was bought on sale for next to nothing and combined with a favourite

crown stamp, they are going to revolutionize our dinner parties!

1. Simply dab your stamp on the ink pad and test on paper to see if you need to dab more or less ink on it to get the desired effect.

2. Place the stamp in the section you want to stamp and try not to move it

around while applying pressure on it. On glazed surfaces this is tricky but if you’re gentle you will get it done without difficulty. Don’t stress if you have a bit missing on a little section or get it smudged – the overall look will be slightly distressed and simply adds to the charm of the piece.

3. After it has dried properly you can

glaze it with a couple of layers podge, making sure it dries thoroughly between layers. Bake your bowl, plate or mug for 60 minutes on 90 degrees Celsius with the door of the oven slightly open. Different makes of glaze have different baking requirements so be sure to read the instruction carefully. We were truly thrilled by the final result – now you give it a go!

For a lovely and very easy DIY, why not personalize your crockery with a stamp or monogram?

Gaming

THE LAST OF US REMASTEREDThe Last of Us is the sort of game that only comes along once or twice a console generation. Its combination of subtle, crushingly-earnest storytelling and gritty action survival gameplay makes it a game you’re not likely to forget--and if there’s just one game you absolutely must play on your PS4, it’s The Last of Us Remastered.

This post-apocalyptic tale tasks Joel, a man hardened by tragedy, with escorting a 14-year-old girl named Ellie clear across what remains of America. Most of the world’s population has been transformed into genuinely terrifying zombie-things, and the pair must sneak, fight, and run their way past the many dangers that populate their journey. The slow-burn action gameplay is often uncomfortably tense, forcing you to think about and adapt to each enemy encounter.

BATTLEFIELD 4No doubt about it, Battlefield 4 on the PS4 is hands-

down one of the best ways to experience this absolutely thrilling multiplayer shooter. The visuals look roughly a billion times cleaner, which has a direct effect on the amount of enjoyment you’ll derive from playing it. Few things are as exhilarating as fighting in massive battles with a total of 64 players, watching soldiers duke it out in the streets while tanks hurl shells at anything that moves. The environmental destruction is more impressive than ever, the battles are tense, and even the single-player campaign has been greatly improved in comparison to the tragedy that was Battlefield 3’s solo offering. If you’re planning on playing Battlefield 4 on consoles, go PS4 or bust.

TOMB RAIDER: DEFINITIVE EDITION

The game takes you through Lara’s first desperate, life-or-death adventure in the early days of her tomb-raiding career. You’ll watch Lara transform from a scared, lost historian to a brutal, do-what-it takes survivor plunging into ancient ruins, crafting makeshift weapons, and scaling impassable cliffs. How do you make a great game even better? Why, give it a complete graphical overhaul, of course. The Definitive Edition does just that, as it offers a revamped, more detailed Lara model, adds new environmental elements to enhance the island’s visual storytelling, and vastly improves the lighting effects to the point you see every raindrop in the sky light up from a flash of lightning.

ASSASSIN’S CREED 4: BLACK FLAG

We weren’t too sure what to think when we heard that the Assassin’s Creed franchise would be heading to the high seas in a pirate-filled adventure. What we definitely didn’t expect, though, was for our Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag review to call it the best AC yet. Seriously, it’s that good. The land combat is as strong as ever, and features some of the most interesting outdoor locations we’ve explored in the series--but it’s really the open ocean where AC4 is at its best.

FINAL FANTASY 14: A REALM REBORN

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn captures a lot of what we love about the franchise: It’s got a great story, deep RPG combat and progression. And, despite it being an MMO, which are typically overly complex, it’s a game that plays quite well with a controller. Sure, it’ll take some getting used to, and yes, FF14: ARR is a bit overwhelming at first. But onceyou do, and once you get acclimated to the controls, you’ll be partying up with others to take down towering raid bosses (Titan, anyone?) in no time. Do be warned, however: because of the constantly-evolving nature of this MMO, you will have to pony up a monthly subscription fee to play it. Worth it? You bet.

Board games Recycling

To end our transport theme the Grade 2 learners are having fun with their paper aeroplanes. The furthest was 16 meters and we used a measuring wheel to measure it accurately.

Grade 3’s designed their own Board game during a Computer lesson. The best was at the end of the lesson when they could play the game with a friend.

Moregrove’s Grade 7 classes will be collecting recycling material for one week. These are the four boxes collected in one day. We all cannot wait to see how much recycling material our Grade 7 classes can collect in one week.

Charity CampaignThe Grade 4 classes at Moregrove Primary School opened their hearts by participating in an annual charity campaign.

They enthusiastically collected goods like toys, stationary, toiletries and clothes. These items will be distributed as Christmas presents to underprivileged children.

Here are a few of the Grade 4 learners with a few items.

Entrepreneurs Day Lees is pret!

Spring DayThe Summerwood Foundation Phase learners celebrated the coming of spring by planting seedlings. They planted the seedlings in the area which is being developed into a “Nature, Discovery and Sound Garden.” The girls were dressed up as fairies and the boys as elves.

As in many other schools,’ Casual Day’ has become a firm favourite with Summerwood learners. On 6 September learners and staff alike could dress up in ‘Bling’ in exchange for a R10 Casual Day sticker. By doing so, the School contributed to the National fund for persons with disabilities.

The National Finals of the Miniquiz, a science and mathematics competition, took place in Johannesburg. The regional finals saw 4 learners from each province make their way into the national competition where the province would battle it out to take top honours in the country. Our very own Nicholas Audley had been chosen to represent the Eastern Cape. The first stage of the quiz consisted of an individual written quiz. The results of which would determine the Top 5 provinces to move through to the second round. The Eastern Cape performed well enough to earn their spot in the Top 5. The nail-biting second round, comprising of multiple-choice questions, a quickfire round and a round of ‘fastest finger first’, saw the Eastern Cape narrowly miss first place by half a question due to negative marking. Nicholas Audley was also announced as the top learner at the national Miniquiz, based on results of the individual quiz, which earned him a laptop and recognition as the unofficial top math and science student in the country.

Onderwysers en leerders ondersteun Colour Run 2014

Pearson Interact organised a highly successful fun run in aid of Cheshire Homes. The 5 km run through Summerstrand attracted learners and their families from the school, as well as many outside runners supporting the event. A marked feature of the race was residents in wheelchairs, from Cheshire Homes (Summerstrand). Pearson pupils pushed/ran with the wheelchairs. An extract from a letter sent to Pearson Interact comments on their gratitude and a peek into the world of disabled people crying out to be part of the abled-bodied world. “The residents truly enjoyed themselves. I believe that what you did as a school was evidence to the words that ‘disabled people are just like everyone else’. They just want to live life to the

full and do normal, everyday things like play sport. You have made them come out of their comfort zone, gave them a chance to ‘interact’ with the outside world and made them run on the same platform as able-bodied people.”Interact recently donated a motorised wheelchair to Ben Erasmus, who has been at Cheshire Homes for more than 40 years. Ben also ‘competed in the fun run’.Interact will hand over a cheque for R10 000 to help fulfill their needs lists – eg. bedding, crockery.
