President’s Column President’s Column President’s Column - February 2011 February 2011 February 2011 New month – Valentine’s Day coming up and alas there isn’t a fish auction this year so that I can show my wife how much I love her by tak- ing her. Guess the romantic dinner at the Truck Stop is out as well. I don’t know what I’ll do. Guess, I’ll have to resort to the tired flowers, maybe I can try a flowering aquatic plant. There are some events coming up this month: Feb. 13th CAOAC Meeting – all the awards nominations not already required are due by that meeting. If you or your rep can’t be there – they can be forwarded to Peter Melady directly. Feb. 19th Durham Regional Aquarium Society Awards Dinner at the Toronto Zoo. Speaker will be Rusty Wessel talking about Cichlids and Livebearers of the Panuco Basin in Mexico. For only $25 a great dinner, good company and learn something new. Feb. 20th Tropical Fish Club of Erie County Auction in Boston, New York. I don’t know of any auction that tends to get as wide a range of different fish. It is well worth attending. March 6th Hamilton and District Aquarium Soci- ety Auction in Waterdown. Start planning for the upcoming CAOAC Convention in Brantford, the Victoria Day Weekend. More details should be up on the website later this month. Also it’s never too early to start thinking about serving on next year’s CAOAC Executive. Nominations are due by the April Meeting which is only two short months away. Motion by Ken to approve minutes of December meeting – Myron 2nd Carried Matters Arising from Previous Meeting Bob sent an email to Tom Bridges in regards to the Breeders Directory being available for download from the CAOAC website. Tom replied with his thoughts were that the Breeders Directory was a “perk” to membership within CAOAC and also that there may be some errors. He felt a member of CAOAC may be more forgiving and advise of any error that someone not associated with the association. He indicated that it may be time for some-one else to take on the responsibility that he has had for over 30 years now. The motion will stand and will become effective in June 2011. Password protection of the directory was discussed but felt was not necessary. Bill 125 (provincial) - Tom reported that changes will be made and presented at a later time. . Bob also talked briefly about the federal bill (see link in Pres notes). Bob has contacted the appropriate source with replies to issues with the proposed bill. Treasurer’s Report Ann read Dave's report. Ken made the motion to accept the report – Terry – 2nd Carried Business Arising from Executive Meeting Committee Reports Awards Newsletter Award applications are due today. Only one submitted today.
