CHRISTMAS

Weary shepherds sat in silence As they watched their flocks that night. Not suspecting that God’s timing For Messiah was just right! That the special birth of Jesus Would unfold in yonder stall, Giving earth a gift so precious Sent to lift man from the fall.

The shattered sky shone forth in brilliance-- By a star with splendor grand! And an angel gently whispered “Fear not, peace is sent to man.” Then a choir of angels gathered “Glory unto God above Who has sent to earth this blessing Unto man His peace and love.”

“You will find Him in a manger Lying there upon the hay.” Excitedly, they left all-- With no thought of sheep that lay All alone without a shepherd In the field that holy night There enveloped by the brilliance Of that very special light!

And the lowly shepherds found Him As they came to David’s town. They in reverence gently bowed down Page 2

Poinsettias: From the 17th century, Franciscan Friars in Mexico included the Poinsettias in their Christmas celebration. The star-shaped leaf pattern is said to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem, and the red color represents the Blood Sacrifice through the Crucifixion of Jesus. Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

We all like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He did

not open His mouth. Isaiah 53 NIV

God’s Loveliness

My Aunt Mary is one of the sweetest persons I know, and this is not just a recent opinion. As a youngster growing up, Aunt Mary came to visit us, and when helping my Mother do the household chores, she was so careful to try and do things as Mother needed them done. Mother appreciated this immensely. When I heard her talk about this favorable trait, it captured my attention. Because Mother was pleased with Aunt Mary and shared it, this helped me to recognize Aunt Mary’s loveliness as I was influenced by her opinion. Similarly, the Word of God and the followers of God influence our personal beliefs of Who God Is! When our attention is captured by their witness, we gain awareness that no one is greater than our wonderful, lovely God Who is our unfailing refuge as well as our Savior and Lord. Pg 3

God’s Loveliness - continued

Psalm 46:10 states, Be still, and know that I am

God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be

exalted in the earth. God wants us to be still, learn to know Him intimately and then to be at rest, to be calm, peaceful, tranquil, unmoving and soothed. He is our dependable safe place: I long to…take refuge in the

shelter of your wings. Psa. 61:4 During this busy Christmas season, God’s loveliness shines forth with a promise to “draw us to Him.” There we will find peace and joy in His warm and loving Spirit as we celebrate His great Gift – the Prince of Peace - Jesus Christ. John 12:32, “But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.” Scriptures: New International Version Merry Christmas, Anita & Gerald

And there were shepherds living out in the fields

nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.”

Suddenly,

a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests. Luke 2:8-14 NIV

Narciso Peru

News from Peru

Missionary and Pastor Narciso Zamora In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we are praying for you and for the evangelism and growth of the church in the United States, Latin America and the world. The church, pastors and leaders have to take the gospel urgently to the whole world so that people can be freed from sin. It’s getting worse each day—people are more violent, there’s more prostitution, pornography, etc. We are continuing to evangelize throughout these mountains where there is such great need of the Word of God. There are many places where the gospel has not reached. I go out each week to evangelize, disciple and train leaders. My wife Udelia and I traveled last month to a city 14 hours through the mountains—a long trip but encouraging because there are people who want to receive Jesus. On September 10th, we arrived at- Pg4

midnight in the town of Chachapoyas. We stayed in a stinky little house, dirty, noisy and no windows. It was like a haunted house, but we had to get some sleep to continue our trip the next day. September 11th, at 7 a.m., we left to grab a quick breakfast and continue on in a small bus for another hour to the small town of Luya. We stayed there one week to evangelize and disciple. Two dedicated brothers welcomed us. There’s no child evangelism going on in that town, but we did participate in some Bible classes, family visitation and street (and park) evangelism. The people were very grateful when they received the word of God. One woman hugged Udelia and said, “Thanks so much for telling me about Jesus.” Three families hosted our meals for the week, thank God who alone can do such things. May God bless you, brothers and sisters, richly for the economic support to continue this missionary work of planting churches and training pastors and leaders in these mountains. In many of these places, the people have not permitted evangelism before, but I don’t feel afraid. I travel with my tracts, New Testaments, materials for children, and I take movies. I show a movie about environmental issues about how the mining companies are polluting, and people welcome me because that’s a topic they are interested in. They allow me to show the film, then I use some of the time they’ve given me to tell them about Christ. Then the next day, they are receptive to seeing a movie about God, and I can preach to them without fear, thanks to our all-powerful God. On September 19th, we went to Lima for Udelia’s check up; it’s been 14 years since her kidney transplant—she has only one. She has also lost her hearing and sight on one side and has to take a lot of medicine, but she still serves the Lord, particularly working with children. After the exam, I went on that same day to a place about four hours from Lima, called La Esperanza Jaén. It’s very hot there and they grow coffee and cacao. A group of brothers who had built their houses on a mountain ridge received me. There was a small congregation waiting on me there—it was my first time to visit. The leader, Eulogio, told everyone that I was there, and people came out of their houses to welcome me. At that moment, it started to rain. I worked in that town for five days, teaching Biblical doctrine, discipline, and evangelizing in the evenings. People came from all around to watch the films and hear the Word of God. Nine people accepted Christ.

One entire family came forward, and there was also a couple, who embraced, as they made their decision for Christ. The mother-in-law wept tears of joy to see her son-in-law and daughter receiving Christ. In another one of the services, a man with a red jacket came forward and accepted Christ as he prayed with me. At the finish of the service, the leader came up to me and said, “Pastor Narciso, the man in the red jacket is the leader of the local Catholic church. This man has prohibited us from preaching in the streets before, but now he has accepted Jesus!” Praise be to God! I am very happy when people accept Jesus and can serve the Lord. It’s overwhelming; I sometimes cry on the bus trip, praying that the gospel can be preached and taught to everyone. In January 2014, we hope to conduct an evangelistic campaign with 10 Christian brothers from Lima. Please, we need your prayers for our God to supply all our needs for this missionary work in the Andes Mountains of Peru. We praise God because He is working miracles —things that would be impossible in our own strength.

God bless!

Narciso

Christ has no hands but our hands

To do His work today; He has no feet but our feet To lead men in His way;

He has no tongues but our tongues To tell men how He died;

He has no help but our help To bring them to His side.

What if our hands are busy With other work than His?

What if our feet are walking Where sin’s allurement is

What if our tongues are speaking Of things His lips would spurn? How can we hope to help Him

And hasten His return? - Anonymous

CHRISTIAN TRIUMPH NEWS By Editor

It either is winter when you receive this Faith Messenger or will be very soon! Enjoy this special season, when in some areas, hot chocolate tastes the best and a warm fire is a great blessing!

We rejoice with the shepherds on that night long ago as they said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” And they hurried off to find the little baby wrapped in warm cloth, lying in a manger.

Like Mary, we “treasure all these things” in our hearts. This Baby Jesus is why Christian Triumph and our friends continue sending the Gospel to others.

The message of hope and love, given to us through the birth, life, and resurrection of Jesus is without a doubt the most beautiful Christmas story ever told. The coming of this Christ child assures every individual of eternal life, and John 3:16-17 expresses it so sweetly: For God so loved the world

that He gave His one and only son, that whoever

believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal

life. For God did not send His Son into the world to

condemn the world, but to save the world through

Him. NIV

As Charles Swindoll says in his Living Insights Study Bible, (page 1119), “It all began in a manger, but it ends in your heart…If you will, by personal invitation, ask Jesus to become your Savior from sin, your personal Redeemer, He will come in…”

He will be your best friend and “lead you beside the still waters.”

Christian Triumph wishes each of our appreciated readers a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year. May God bless and keep you! News: The Christian Triumph local church continues to experience growth in the congregation. Last week, three more new persons attended, and there have been several kneeling at the altar on Sundays. God’s Spirit has led individuals to volunteer to help finish the new church which has faced diverse challenges. The ministry of sending literature is doing well, and we thank all of you who help with this mission work. LETTERS: A notice received in the mail which began “Celebrating the life of Irene” was very much appreciated. She is now in God’s garden, as the poem on the back expresses so beautifully. Thank you for sharing.* We only use first names to protect identities.

A special card was received from Matha and enjoyed. It reads, God thinks about you

all the time…and today, I’m joining Him. (by the way, you’re worth all the attention) Milton wrote that he has been receiving the Faith Messenger for some years; he is 95 and sent these precious words: May the

Good Lord bless and help you reach people

for Heaven.

We thank God for His Saints who reach out to others with encouragement and support. Letters are also received from correction centers requesting literature, and it is our great privilege to share God’s words of Hope. We appreciate emails advising of changes in personal addresses as well. Email address: christiantriumph.com All of the FREE books offered in the Faith

Messenger have been sent to the readers who requested them. In a few weeks, we will, once more, be able to offer a few free books: WALKING MAN by Narciso

Spiritual Hunger in India by Donna Lee Schillinger

On October 5th of this year, Indian Missionary David Jerald met my daughter Gwendolyn and me in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, and drove us to his part of the state where we were his family’s guests for three days. I explained the long, forgotten history of the connection between the Jerald family and Christian Triumph Company in the last issue of the Faith Messenger (also available online through the Publications page of our Web site: www.ChristianTriumph.org). This was my first time to meet David Jerald and I knew very little about his ministry, therefore much of the time was spent with me asking endless questions. On Sunday, we were received as special guests at the church where J.R. Jerald, David’s father, is pastor. After a service with the Lord’s Supper, there was a congregational meal. Gwen pointed out to me as we were looking at the pictures later that the men and women sat separately in worship and meal afterwards. We were an exception as guests. There were many fascinating aspects of that worship service, not the least of which was the Indian rendering of traditional church hymns like “I Surrender All.” You can view some pictures and short video clips of the worship experience on our Web site. Formerly the India Bible Mission, David Jerald heads up the current Mount Olive Foundation (www.MountOliveFoundation.org) to support evangelism and church planting throughout India. Presently, the Mount Olive Foundation provides a small stipend to 40 missionaries throughout India who are working to plant congregations in various unreached areas. When the congregations have grown to approximately five families, support is tapered off to that missionary as the congregation can then support its pastor. Then the Foundation selects a new missionary to support who is going into the field. In this way, they have aided in planting more than 100 churches on a five-figure budget. Imagine if mega charities like Gospel for Asia, who in 2011 took in $71 million, were getting comparable results for each dollar invested.

Mount Olive’s major annual campaign strategically coincides with an important Hindu festival. As many pastors and missionaries as are able arrive at the festival site and throughout the multi-day event, pass out the tracts that Christian Triumph funds – 100,000 copies of “You Must be Born Again” and “Prepare for Heaven,” translated into the Tamil language. At the end of the tract, those who are interested to learn more about Jesus Christ are invited to send a postcard to the Mount Olive Foundation. In the months that follow, the

Foundation receives 10,000 to 15,000 responses from this effort. To each of these correspondents, they

send a basic discipleship booklet and the address to the nearest evangelical church. In turn, they contact that church and provide the name and address so that the pastor may reach out to those who were interested enough in the Gospel to return a postcard. A ten to 15 percent response is quite astounding. By way of comparison, a three percent response to a fundraising appeal in the United States is considered a huge success. The high return rate of the postcards is evidence of the spiritual hunger in India. It’s noteworthy, however, that many people who return the postcards are likely just curious to learn more about Jesus, possibly considering adding Him to their pantheon of other gods they worship. Hinduism has more than 300 million gods, making it absolutely impossible for any follower to know them all, and predisposing Hindus to be quite hospitable toward gods they have never heard of before. And when they learn how easy it is to please Jesus, and how readily He loves, He’s a God they would like to know more about - but to worship Him to the exclusion of all others? Even though religious discrimination is illegal in India, Hinduism is so pervasive throughout the culture that to be anything but Hindu is not a life change that can be made by saying “this simple prayer.” Yes, salvation happens that way, but committed discipleship for an Indian, outside of the more Christian state of Kerala, means a countercultural way of life at every turn. It would be comparable in difficulty to an American trying to go off the grid and use no electricity or electronics. It requires a total life make-over. I imagine there are

Page 7: Faith Messenger Dec 2013

7

not many “emotional” salvation experiences in India. More likely, the decision to follow Christ is weighed against the changes it will require and persecution it will bring. This is why most of the conversions to Christianity are happening among the lowest caste members—the untouchables. Considered so unworthy that higher castes flee from the shadow of an untouchable, these people have very little to lose and everything to gain. That simple prayer of salvation removes their untouchable status and gives them a new identity as brothers and sisters to families who, generations before, were out of reach of any possible association. As a transient and free-thinking American, I found myself wondering why the whole of the untouchables in India has not converted to another religion that offers them instance release from the caste system. The answer is because for the 72 percent of the country’s population who live in small villages, a decision for Christ would take them out of the frying pan and into the fire—sometimes literally, as houses and businesses are burned to intimidate new Christians to return to their inherited place in society and to continue to serve the higher castes. As you can see, the situation in India is quite unique and efforts to spread the good news of Jesus Christ have met with the staunch opposition of the higher castes, who stand to lose their servant class if revival ever breaks out in India. Please be in prayer for the work of Brother David Jerald, the Mount Olive Foundation and all the missionaries they support and churches being planted through their support; and pray that the good news about Jesus Christ will reach the lost of India. TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO OUR SAVIOR CAME

Two thousand years ago our Savior came From heaven to earth, our souls to reclaim;

Was crucified, for us to take the blame. And save every sinner who trusts in His name.

Before He ascended to heaven again,

He told His disciples that they must remain, To spread the Good News, if they would attain A place in the Kingdom, and with Him reign.

Their job, and ours, is to spread the Good Word, But still there are millions who never have heard

That Christ on the cross died to save them from sin, And transform them, so they can a new life begin.

He told us to pray for more workers to go.

But it's been so long, and we've been so slow, That souls are still dying who Christ do not know,

And we've no excuse for our failures to show.

The fields are now white, and souls will be lost, Unless garnered quickly, whatever the cost. Our life in God's kingdom we must invest, Before in good conscience we can find rest.
