DA leader Mmusi Maimane says his partystands for change and is ready to give SouthAfricans a clean government if voted intopower in the 2019 general election.
Maimane was speaking to hundreds ofDA supporters at the DA’s Ngqura constitu-ency office in Njoli Road, Kwazakhele, onSaturday about “the greatest crisis” - thescarcity of jobs that has reached chroniclevels in Nelson Mandela Bay.He said unemployment of about 47,3% in
the metro was hitting young people hardand they were being plunged more andmore into hopelessness and despair.Maimane said he had come to the hotly
contested city to collect stories frommostlyqualified but unemployed and hopelessyoung people to take to President Jacob Zu-ma during the march the DA was organis-ing in Gauteng on January 27. They wouldalso help him respond to the State of the Na-tion Address on February 11.
“Joblessness is huge a problem. Peoplelose their dignity without jobs,” said Mai-mane who was, however, quick to add thatthe DA had a plan to create jobs.
He said, “To grow the economy, we needenergy - diverse energy. Nomore load-shed-
ding by Eskom, because load-sheddingleads to job-shedding.”The DA was not only about small busi-
nesses, he said. It concerned them thatVolkswagen andMercedes Benz were strug-gling and they felt there was a need forBMW to come to the fore and employ morepeople.“The DA is not against Broad-based Black
Economic Empowerment (BBBEE). Wewant it to benefit small businesses whichhelp to create jobs, and not the ANC fatcats,” the DA leader said to loud applause.Maimane said a corrupt and inefficient
ANC government had run out of ideas anddecided to use the racist card.“We are not a racist political party. We
believe in one race, the human race. We’llfight racism in this country wherever itrears its ugly head. But, we’ll never fightracismwith racism,” saidMaimane, addingthat racists “must voetsek!”.
Maimane said the ideals of a non-racist,non-sexist and democratic SouthAfrica haddied with Nelson Mandela in the ANC. Hewas adamant that the DA would always liveto honour Mandela’s legacy.
Also present were DA Nelson MandelaBay mayoral candidate Athol Trollip andNgqura constituency officer and MP NqabaBhanga who also spoke.

TO address the problem of BNG housingunits remaining unoccupied and subject tovandalism, the Eastern Cape MEC for Hu-man Settlements, Helen Sauls-August, hascalled on approved beneficiaries to claimtheirhousesbycontacting themunicipalitieswhere they initially made their applications.
The provincial Human Settlements De-
partmenthas learnt that somemunicipalitiesare struggling to trace beneficiaries whosehouses have been completed.According to Statistics South Africa, mi-
gration patterns for Eastern Cape illustratedincreasedout-migration figuresbetween2001and 2011, placing this province in the topthreeprovinces experiencing thehighest out-migrationpatterns in thecountrywithin thatperiod.
It is believed that some of the beneficiaries
may have moved on to other provinces insearch of employment, leaving many com-pleted houses unoccupied, exposed to vandal-ism and further delaying the issuing of titledeeds to beneficiaries across the province. With an estimated housing backlog of
600 000, the department has given the go-ahead for municipalities to start a de-regis-tration of beneficiaries so that other qualify-ing beneficiaries canbe allocated theunoccu-pied houses.
Municipalities have been tasked to followthis de-registration process properly and notallocate empty houses without following thedue processes. The law allows for the tracing of beneficia-
ries beforede-registration canbe effected andbeneficiaries be allocated empty houses.Sauls-August has therefore made a call forcommunities also to protect the houses andreport criminal activities such as vandalismof the completed units.

NELSON Mandela Bay has the new WorldBoxing Federation (WBF) InternationalChampion in Siphosethu Ncisane, a Minifly-weight boxer from Walmer Township.
This is thanks to a gamble by the NelsonMandela Bay Boxing Promoters Associationwho put theirmoneywhere theirmouths are.Ncisane, aka The Gift, beat a game Port Al-
fred’s Ndikho “Ndim Lo” Magadaza on aKnock Out (KO) in the 11th round to win thevacantMiniflyweight title at the IndoorSportCentre in Uitenhage in December. The tournamentwhichwas to be sponsored
by Nelson Mandela Bay’s Department ofSport was on the verge of collapse when itemerged that the sponsorshipmoney was notreadily available. With all the preparations made, boxers
from Gauteng and Cape Town already in thecity - their transport and accommodationpaid, the local promoters decided to down-grade the two South African title fights in thebill to six rounders and subsequently re-duced the purse monies of the boxers accord-ingly - to see the fight continuing.
This affected the six and 10 round fights aswell. They too had to be dropped to six andfour round fights. But the main bout between Ncisane and
Magadaza was not touched. It continued asplanned.Seen in action by the WBF president How-
ard Goldberg who was the fight supervisor,Ncisane improved his chances of fighting forthe real world title.“Ncisane is very good. I thinkhemusthave
2-3 fights in defence of this (B-Grade) title be-fore he challenges for the world title. But hemust also improve his defence. Though hewon, I think he took a lot of punches froma gameMagadaza,” saidGoldbergwho is alsoa former international ring official.Mandela Bay boasts an international WBF
Miniflyweight title and an SAFemale JuniorLightweight title held by NomampondomiseXotyeni.Xotyeni convincingly whipped her neme-
sis, Bongiwe Silo of Cape Town over sixrounds. The belts could have been more asWalmer’s Nozipho Bell beat SA FemaleLightweight champion Ndobayini Kolose ofGauteng in a non-title scrap which was oversix rounds.

LOSING 3-1 against high-riding Wits Uni-versity at home has disappointed ChippaUnited coaching staff and management, but the type of football played by the Chil-li Boys was promising.
This was said by the recently appointedChippa United Team Manager Luthando“Trompies” Zibeko.According to Zibeko, who also coordi-
nates the Nelson Mandela Bay based Absa
Premiership League outfit’s Marketingand Communications, though they lost,Chippa United players gave their all andseem to have grasped acting head coachDan Malesela’s philosophy of play.Dan “Dance” Malesela was promoted to
hold the fort as head coach since RogerSikhakhane was placed on leave. It was a thrilling match. United kept the
Students busy even after the goals by Pha-kamani Mahlambi and the new signingJames Keene. It was inevitable for AndileMbenyane to score in the second half and
reduced the deficit.A goal by Ben Motshwari who made it
3-1 did not deter Chairman ChippaMpengesi’s boys from surging forward insearch of goals.“The performance of our players was
good. They seem to have grasped the phi-losophy of the coach. This is positive go-ing to KwaZulu Natal to face Golden Ar-rows this weekend,” said Zibeko of thenext Chilli Boys Premier Soccer Leagueassignment.“The loss was a setback to our goal of
finishing in the top 8 in the Absa Premier-ship. But a loss sometimes is right toawaken us to make corrections where wewere not doing right,” said Zibeko. He said the coach was happy with his
squad but still wanted players to givetheir all if and when given an opportunityto play.Placed at 9th on the log standing after
13 games played, Chippa United playsagainst 6th placed Golden Arrows atChatsworth Stadium in Durban on Satur-day 16 January.

LION City proved their mettle be-yond any doubt when theythrashedMorning Stars 4-0 in theirABC Motsepe League local derbythat was played at Motherwell NU2 Stadium on Saturday.
City showed from the outset thatthey were hungry for a victorywhile Stars played defensive foot-ball with the aim of catching theircounterparts on the counterattack.Stars’ game plan helped for the
first 45 minutes because their de-fence was very tight. Stars’ defend-ers Lubambo Skera Camagu andLucky Kala threatened City frontmen by kicking them but Dr NguboBiyana’s lads were not shy to dis-play their skills.Stars conceded a lot of set-pieces
to City and the game nearly becamea brawl, but Referee Luyanda Tshu-la managed to stamp his authority. As such the game turned to be a
humdinger with fans sent into rap-tures. The first stanza ended in agoalless draw with the home sideknocking on the visitors’ door.City’s coaches Thembinkosi Big-
man Lindani and Gcobani Citwamade the right decision by puttingLutho Totwana and VuyolwethuMancane Dingana into the fray. The two substitutes Totwana and
Dingana seemed to have read thegame on the bench as they capital-ised on Stars’ errors. Totwanaplayed a good move with LudweSonjica who supplied a perfectcross to Dingana who headed an
opening goal.Totwana kept on tormenting
Stars’ midfielders and as a resultStars’ defender Thembelani Tshisascored an own goal thus giving Citya 2-0 lead. The own goal changed Stars game
plan with City exerting more pres-sure. Lukhanyo Sheriff Rasmenifailed to register his name in thescore book when his efforts wentwide.Sonjica was the hero of the day
when he scored a brace to make thefinal score 4-0 in favour of LionCity.Emperors fought tooth and nail
when they drew 3-3 with the high-riding FC Elliot United at Mother-well NU 2 Stadium on Saturday. The goals of Emperors came
courtesy of Luthando Lua- LuaMatiwane, Sinethemba Jabavu andXolani Axeman January while Elli-ot’s goals were scored by SiyandaPetse, Edwin Xaba and SiyandaTamoyi.Elliot tall striker Simphiwe
Shaka Dlamini and skipper Mbon-iseni Mbanjwa gave Emperors’ de-fenders a headache. The game that was scheduled be-
tween FC Buffalo and BlackburnRovers has been postponed andtook place in the Jan Smuts Stadi-um on Tuesday on January 12.
