Welcome to Chipping Sodbury School
It is a real privilege to be head teacher at
Chipping Sodbury School. I am very proud of
all that we do here to ensure that every
student achieves beyond their expectations.
It is important to me that we develop an
environment which will allow each and every
student to find the right combination of
challenge and opportunity suited to their
unique talents and gifts.
We seek constantly to improve outcomes for
students of all ability levels. One of my main
roles is to ensure that high quality and
inspirational teaching is taking place in all
subject areas and to deliver a curriculum that
is both accessible and stretching. Whilst I am
pleased with our academic achievements,
education is about so much more.
At Chipping Sodbury School we promote an
environment where effort and curiosity are
valued, where persistence and resilience are
encouraged and where each student has the
chance to realise their potential.
Our students enjoy some excellent facilities,
not least the multi-million pound sports hall,
dance studio and floodlit artificial grass
pitch. Our status as a specialist technology
school means students get access to high
quality technical equipment in addition to
their more traditionally academic subjects.
Most of our students stay on after year 11
to join the fast growing, ambitious and
exciting sixth form.
I am always delighted to meet prospective
parents who wish to see the school 'in action'
on a normal day or who wish to discuss any
particular issues that they may have. Please
do not hesitate to make an appointment
should you wish to do so.
I do hope you will want to join our thriving
community.

Creating ExcellenceWe have high expectations for everyone in our
school community. We aspire to excellence in
teaching and achieving impressive standards
of learning. The values expressed in the school
reflect our shared belief in providing opportunities
for all students to reach their full potential,
whatever their starting point. We know that this
is best achieved in a supportive, encouraging
environment where mutual and self-respect
is promoted.

We want students to leave this school as
confident, tolerant young people able to
work independently and think creatively,
making a positive contribution in a fast-
changing world.
We encourage students to –
• Have high aspirations
• Work hard and take responsibility
for their future
• Be prepared to ‘have a go’
• Have enquiring minds
• Develop a range of skills
• Show respect and integrity
By encouraging and forming these habits
students can face the future with confidence,
whether this is in higher education, training
or employment.
Many of our students continue their studies
with us in the sixth form.

Student Support At Chipping Sodbury School we strive to
be an inclusive school for all our students.
We are proud of our reputation as a caring
school, committed to placing the individual
needs of students at the heart of all we do.
Before students start in Year 7, we work
closely with local primary schools to build
good relationships with parents, carers and
pupils to make the transition from primary
to secondary as smooth as possible.
On joining the school students are placed in
one of four houses. Each house contains
students from all year groups, including the
sixth form, led by a Head of House who
takes responsibility for student progress and
achievement. There are four House
Coordinators, each responsible for day to
day pastoral matters.
Moral, social, emotional and spiritual
development of our students is important
and support is provided not only through our
house structure but also designated lessons
taught once a fortnight.
We have a specialist learning base to provide
further support to students on a more
individual basis when required. Daily support
and encouragement is provided by students’
form tutor during tutor time at the start of
the school day.

Partnerships The school works very closely with its
community in many ways. Our specialist
technology school status allows us to support
adult and community learning programmes
for different groups, as well as our cluster
primary and first schools.
Our superb sports facilities are available for
community use in the evenings and at
weekends.
We have good links with local employers
through our extensive work experience
programme as well as support from local
businesses and organisations.
As a school we are proud to be part of the
local community, supporting many events
outside school including the Chipping
Sodbury Festival and the Victorian Day.
We are well supported by Chipping Sodbury
Rotary Club and the Lions Club of Chipping
Sodbury. A variety of firms support the
Greenpower Challenge group.
Chipping Sodbury School is proud to belong
to the growing family of Cooperative
Schools. This means that we subscribe to
the ethical values of: openness, honesty,
social responsibility and caring for others.
We also sign up to the cooperative values of:
self-help, self-responsibility, democracy,
equality, equity and solidarity.
The school’s Endowed Foundation supports
us very generously, purchasing equipment
which would not be possible out of the local
authority budget and subsidising educational
visits, including residential study courses and
visits abroad.
Further beneficiaries have been the library,
information and communications technology
resources and physical education.

Sixth Form
The school has its own Sixth Form Centre.
We work in partnership with Brimsham Green
School to provide a wide range of level 3
courses in preparation for higher education,
further training or employment. Sixth form
students take on other responsibilities and act
as role models for younger ones.
A strong support team provides information
and guidance to students to help make
decisions that are right for them as they move
from school into university or employment
