EMPOWER 2011

About Empower

Empower promised to be a unique forum

dedicated to activating leadership amongst the

youth of the city, through creation of a common

platform for interaction, sharing and connecting

the youth with the corporate world – this forum

aims at increasing the awareness of the diverse

opportunities that are available for our city’s

youth.

Empower consisted of a session by our

external partner and a Global Village. A

Global Village showcases the culture of

each country represented by our

international intern. It is a fun and

colourful experience which aims at

promoting internationalism and

cultural sensitivity in the youth. Such

an exhibition aims at encouraging

diversity, by bringing together people

from various parts of the world,

belonging to different cultures, to

introduce to students the idea of

leadership, to infuse in them a sense of

team spirit and competition, to

increase their theoretical and practical

knowledge and to have lots of fun.

This shall help in opening doors to greater things to come. We aspire to open their

eyes to cultures, diversity, opportunities in the world today and connect it the need

of developing ethical leadership among youth.

Also, by this we aim at challenging the worldview of people. So much so, that this interaction will bring about new ideas, new perspectives and again open a new chain of thoughts. Thereby, helping all these young students broaden horizons and jump the mind barriers and limitations and truly realize the power of the youth! AIESEC in Kolkata, in it’s endeavour to provide such a platform to the city’s youth, hosted a session by the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad which was conducted by Mr. Kannan, Director Admissions and Financial Aid. The topic of his session was “The importance of MBA today and how to crack GDPI’s”. The session was held on 28th August, 2011 at Vidya Mandir and saw a massive turn out of 600+ students. As the name suggests, the primary

objective of EMPOWER is

empowering the youth of the city.

Thus the target audience is going to

be the youth of the city. Essentially

people of the following backgrounds

are expected to attend the event:

- 1st and 2nd year students from degree and engineering colleges - Final year students - Recent graduates – People looking for opportunities - Students pursuing their Masters and MBA - Corporate Partners and employees - Top academicians from the city

The session, conducted by Mr. Kannan,

Director, Admissions and Financial Aid,

Indian School of Business, Hyderabad was

on “The importance of MBA today and

how to crack GDPI’S”. Through the

session, Mr. Kannan discussed the

various aspects of an MBA programme

and explained it’s relevance in today’s

corporate world. He also spoke of the

need and utility of good managers . Mr.

Kannan went on to discuss the do’s and

don’t in Group Discussions and Personal

Interviews and also answering the

queries of the attendees.

As a special insight into the dream

institute called Indian School of

Business, Mr. Kannan showed our

attendees a presentation of life in the

great institute, thus reinforcing the

fact that greatness stems from the

humble.

This is what one of the attendees,

Joyeeta Halder, had to say about the

session- “It was an amazing experience

as it opened the world of business to

us and group discussions and personal

interviews don’t seem so daunting

anymore. Moreover, a lot of doubts

were cleared and the session really

motivated me to move ahead without

any fear.”

Global Village

.

The session by the Indian School of

Business, Hyderabad was followed by

a Global Village in the Prayer Hall at

Vidya Mandir. The Global Village is an

opportunity for our international

interns to display their culture and

history through stalls, presentations

and interaction with the attendees.

This cultural fair saw stalls from

countries like Germany, Ghana, Brazil,

Estonia, China, Japan, Poland, Russia

and India

Each stall held it’s own attraction for

the attendees. While Germany’s stall

was a hit due to their beautiful display

and food, Poland’s stall pulled in the

crowd with it’s music. Brazil became a

star attraction with it’s salsa numbers

and football trivia while China’s

intricate artwork display also got a lot of

appreciation. Finally, India’s stall was a

haven for those who wished to seek

some familiarity in the diverse global

environment that was created in the

venue. By this we aim at challenging the worldview of people. So much so, that this

interaction will bring about new ideas, new perspectives and again open a new

chain of thoughts. Thereby, helping all these young students broaden horizons and

jump the mind barriers and limitations and truly realize the power of the youth.

Our radio partners, 107.8 Power FM, promoted the event from 21st August,

2011, seven times a day till 28th August, 2011. The advertisement announced

was:
