Then you should join our Conversation & Karaoke Night! We will have a Conversation & Karaoke night in the GAB. If you want to attend, come sign up in Grace’s office at SYMR 202. On Wednesday, July 16, meet outside the GAB at 7:00PM.
The last conversation hour will be Friday, July 18, from 12:10 PM — 1:00 PM in SYMR 203. You won’t want to miss it! Sign up in Grace’s office at SYMR 202, if you want to attend. We will have free lunch! First come first served! This will be a great opportunity to meet American volunteers and practice your English.
Fall I term dates are August 25 to October 17. ALL current students (including Level 6 students
who plan to graduate) must complete the online pre-registration for Fall I. Students can pre-
register online at my.unt.edu during Week 6: Monday, July 14th 8:00 am to Friday, July 18th by
5:00 pm.
If you need help registering online, there is a PowerPoint presentation located on the IELI lab website:
https://ieli.unt.edu/ieli-lab. You can also go to the IELI Lab in MARQ 314 for help. If your plans
change after you register, you must go to the IELI Main Office, SYMR 204 to update your pre-
registration form.
Join us for a conversation with the IELI Direc-tor on Tuesday, July 15, from 12:10 - 1:00PM, in SYMR 203. You can ask him questions, share your ideas, or just say Hello!
Are you going to be leaving the
country right after your finals on
Friday, July 25? Will you need a copy
of your grades before Fall I? If so,
you can fill out a form in the IELI
main office (SYMR 204), that gives
your friends or family member per-
mission to pick up your grades for
you. If you don’t fill out a form giving permission for someone
else to pick up your grades, you will have to wait until you are
back in Denton to pick up your grade report.
As always, you will need to show your photo ID to request or
pick up other people’s grades during Week 8. Final grade reports
will be available Thursday, July 31st at 9 am.
Please return any items you checked out from the IELI Lab (ex: movies, books, test preparation materials) before July 25th.
If you do not return your items to the Lab, you WILL HAVE TO PAY A FEE. There will
also be a hold on your account and you will not be able to enroll in any future classes at IELI until the fee is paid to
Alissa in Sycamore 205.
The cost for unreturned books is $10.
The cost for unreturned movies is $20.
The cost for unreturned test materials is $30.
Each week, Grace and Tariq make a Weekly Update video of important events and announcements. If you would like to star in one of the videos, please
stop by SYMR 202 and talk to Grace or Tariq. Volunteers will be entered into a drawing for a
prize at the end of the term!
Phrase: “gung-ho”
Meaning: Very enthusiastic and dedicated
Where it originated: The word gung-ho has been in English only since 1942 and is one of the many words that entered the language as a result of World War II. It comes from Mandarin Chinese, meaning "to work together”. Used in a sentence: Katie is very gung-ho about the trip to Cowboys Stadium next weekend. She even bought a new jersey!
Raven is creating a picture slideshow that
will be played at Summer Graduation. She
is collecting photos of students at IELI
activities this summer. If you would like to
be included in the slideshow, please e-mail
your photos to her at: [email protected].
Grace is looking for musicians to perform at
the Summer Graduation on August 1st. If you
are interested, talk to Grace in SYMR 202 be-
fore July 17.
If you are a graduating Level 6 student who would like to
speak during graduation, please talk to Grace in SYMR
202 before July 25.
If you live in a campus dorm,
you must follow their check-
out procedures. Your RA will
give you detailed information.
Follow these directions, or you
will be penalized!
If you are wanting to stay for intersession, August 9 - 16,
you are only eligible to do so if you lived on campus during
Summer 2 and are planning on living in a dorm during Fall
2014 as well. You must speak to a coordinator in Crumley
Hall in order to stay during intersession.
If you decide to move out of the dorm, you must go to
Crumley Hall, fill out paperwork, and follow the moving
procedures. If you do not, you must pay expensive fines.
Are you planning to live in a dorm during August? You must
apply online through the housing website:
www.unt.edu/housing. Then select the time frame you will
be needing a dorm. If you need a dorm in August, you
would select “Fall 2014”.
If you have questions, please e-mail Amanda Gates in UNT
Housing at [email protected].
