Find out next Thursday! Bishop Arts District (Dallas) - Saturday, November 23, 12:00 - 5:00 PM. The Bishop Arts District is a popular neighborhood in Dallas. There are many small shops and restaurants with delicious food. Enjoy candy at Dude, Sweet! Chocolate, taste fried green tomatoes at Hae’s, or shop at the local stores. Level 6/6 students can sign up during Week 4.  It is free for students in Level 6/6. Level 5/5 or 5/6 can sign up during Week 5. It will cost $32 for students in Level 5/5 and 5/6. No one who is below Level 5/5 will be able to sign up. No excepons. Sign ups will be in the IELI Main Oce (SYMR 204).  There will not be classes at UNT or IELI on November 28 and 29 in celebraon of the Thanksgiving holiday. What is Thanksgiving? The “First Thanksgiving” was celebrated by the rst New England colonists, also known as Pilgrims, aer their rst harvest in the New World in 1621. This feast lasted three days and was aended by about 53 Pilgrims and 90 Nave Americans. The Pilgrims were accustomed to regularly celebrang "thanksgivings"—days of prayer thanking God for blessings such as military victory or the end of a drought. The Connental Congress proclaimed the rst naonal Thanksgiving in 1777. President Abraham Lincoln declared it a naonal day 1863, but each President aer him had to proclaim Thanksgiving each year unl 1941, when Congress established it as a permanent holiday. The classic Thanksgiving menu of turkey, cranberries, pumpkin pie, and root vegetables is based on New England fall harvests. Each region of the United States and each family have dierent tradions for Thanksgiving. Overall, if there is one day each year when food and family take center stage, it is Thanksgiving. It is a holiday about going home, celebrang family, and enjoying the company of the ones you love. If you signed up for the Payment Plan, the nal payment is due this Friday, November 22. Students that have not made the full payment on Friday, November 22, will be charged a $10.00 late fee and will not be allowed to aend classes unl tuion is paid in full. Please speak to Alissa, Sycamore Room 205, if you have any quesons. ALL current students (including Level 6 students who plan to graduate) must complete the online pre -registraon for Spring I.  Students can pre-register online at my.unt.edu between Week 5 Monday, November 18, at 8:00 AM and Friday, N ovember 22.
