Fall 1, 2011 Week 5: Sept. 19 —23

Potluck Lunch— Friday, September 23, from 11:45am — 1pm in SYMR 203. Celebrate the beginning 

of  fall with tradional food from around the world!  You must contribute food to the lunch in order 

to parcipate, so please think about what you can share with friends. 

Ausn Road Trip— Saturday, September 24, from 7:30am — 10pm. You can explore the Texas 

capitol, shop, visit the Inner Space Cavern and museums, and much more. The cost is $10 for IELI 

students and $25 for each guest.  You must sign up by September 20. 

Mall Trip– Saturday, October 1, from 10am‐4pm. Relax from your studies and 

enjoy a day of  shopping at Grapevine Mills Mall.  In addion to shopping, there is also an aquarium, Legoland, and an indoor ice skang rink inside the mall.  The bus cost is 

free, but f  you want to do these extra acvies at the mall, you must buy ckets online. 

Sign up in Amber’s office (SYMR 214) if  you would like to parcipate in any of  these events. 

B. CALLING ALL IELI GRADUATES! 

Do you have a friend or a family member who graduated from 

IELI? We want to make contact with our alumni! Please tell 

your friends and family members to be on the lookout for the 

new IELI Alumni Facebook page. 

In the meanme, ask them to send an email 

to Kristen.Kershaw@unt.edu; we want to 

know where our alumni are, how they are 

doing, and what they are doing. We look 

forward to hearing from everyone! 

The UNT Homecoming football game will be on October 22, 

which is the Saturday before Fall II begins. Homecoming is a 

special me! One event that takes place every year is the 

Homecoming Parade. Would you like to walk in the parade? Sign

up now in 214 to parcipate in the 

Homecoming parade and to help 

decorate the IELI/UNT‐I float! What 

is a float? Ask your teachers and ask 

your friends. Look for more Home‐

coming informaon coming soon! 

What is a potluck? A potluck is a meal for which everyone brings a food to share. Everyone always has a great me. 

Now, it’s me for the Fall 1 term Potluck Lunch! On Friday, September 23 (Week 5), from 11:45am to 1pm, everyone is invited to 

bring a special food to share. Don’t worry! You don’t need to bring enough to feed 450 people! 

The theme of  the potluck is Foods From Around the World! Everyone should prepare a favorite tradional 

food from his/her country. You can work with your friends, or you can bring drinks to share if  you can’t cook. 

You must contribute to the potluck if  you want to parcipate.

In the Fall II term, schedule requests will only be accepted from 

students who have documentaon to support their need for a 

specific schedule. For example, if  you have a  job on campus, 

you must bring an official work schedule with your hours on it. 

If  you are a Level 6 student and you are taking a UNT class, you 

must bring a copy of  your schedule from EIS. Only requests 

with documentaon will be processed. 

Schedule requests should also be made in advance; the Sched‐

ule Preference form will be available on the IELI website 

starng October 3 (Monday, Week 7). All requests must be 

submied by Friday, October 14 (Friday, Week 8), in order to 

be processed before the Fall II term begins. If  you make a re‐

October 31 (Monday, Week 2). If  you want to request a sched‐

ule, you must submit your form before the end of  Fall I. 

Remember, studying English is a full‐me  job, and you should 

expect to be on campus from 8am  – 5pm. Somemes, students 

have a morning class and an aernoon class; this happens in 

the university, also. Fortunately, unlike university classes, IELI 

classes only last for 8 weeks; you can handle any schedule for 8 

weeks. Starng in the Fall II term, IELI will not change your 

schedule because you have an 8am class and a 3pm class. In‐stead, you must make an eff ort to manage your me wisely 

and study on campus. Only requests with documentaon will 

be processed.

The Instuonal TOEFL will be held on Friday, September 30, at 1:00p.m. 

This test is free to all graduang Level 6 students. Sign up Tuesday, September 20, in the IELI Main Office 

(Rm. 211). 

Students in Levels 5/5 or 5/6 can sign up on Monday, September 26. The cost for non‐graduang students is $30.
