Fall 1, 2011 Week 6: Sept. 24 —30
Mall Trip– Saturday, October 1, from 10am‐4pm. Relax from your studies and enjoy a day of shopping at
Grapevine Mills Mall. In addion to shopping, there is also an aquarium, Legoland, and an indoor ice skang rink
The bus cost is free, but if you want to do these extra acvies at the mall, you must buy ckets online. Sign up in
Amber’s office (SYMR 214) today!
Homecoming Week will be October 17—22, which is the week before Fall II begins. Homecoming
a special me during each school year. There are many acvies you can parcipate in during
Homecoming Week, and most of them are free.
On Tuesday, October 18, from 11 am—1 pm, there will be a Homecoming Picnic and Pep Rally
outside the Willis Library. Bring your student ID card for a free lunch, games, prizes, and more!
On Friday, October 21, at 8 pm, join other UNT students at a Bonfire and Yell Contest outside the new Apogee Stadium. Fun!
The most excing events during Homecoming Week will be on Saturday, October 22. One event is the Homecoming Parade, which wi
be from 1 pm—3 pm. Would you like to walk in the parade? What is a float? Ask your teachers and ask your friends.
IELI students will also represent IELI at a tailgang booth from 3 pm—6 pm in the Mean Green Village before the football game begins

The Homecoming Football Game begins at 6 pm at Apogee Stadium. Join other IELI and UNT students as they cheer on the Mean
Green! You won’t want to miss it, so don’t forget to pick up your free cket at the Union, Pohl Rec Center, or Ticket Office by Friday,
October 21!

One of the most popular events in Dallas each fall is the State Fair of Texas
There many kinds of unusual foods to taste, exhibits and museums to visit
concerts to aend, and rides to enjoy at the Midway. You can also say
“Howdy!” and take your picture next to Big Tex, the
52‐foot‐tall cowboy!
This year, the State Fair of Texas is September 30—
October 23. It is open every day from 10 am—9 pm.
At Kroger, you can buy a cket that includes both
transportaon on the DART train and admission to the fair for $17. If you
drive your car, you will pay $16 for a cket at the gate and $15 for parking
You can join other IELI students on Saturday, October 15, aer your final
exams. Sign up in Amber’s office. Don’t forget to buy your cket at Kroge

The Instuonal TOEFL will be held on Friday, September 30, at 1:00p.m.
Students in Levels 5/5 or 5/6 only can sign up on Monday, September 26. The cost for non‐graduang students is $30.
Aenon all NEW Fall 1 2011 students:
All new internaonal students are required to be screened for tuberculosis aer beginning
classes at UNT/IELI. You must make an appointment for your TB test. You must complete the
TB test by Monday, October 3. If you do not complete the test by the deadline, Amber or
Karina will remove you from class and walk with you to the Health Center, and
you will receive an unexcused absence.
Call the Health Center NOW to schedule your appointment.
When you go to the Health Center, you must bring three forms with you: the TB Screening Record, Medical History Form
and TB Screening Form. You received these forms at orientaon.
If you need the forms, have quesons, or would like help making your appointment, come to Amber’s office, SYMR 214.

Tuion is due before you aend your first class in a
new term. If you do not pay tuion by the first class
day, a $50 late fee will be added to your account. If
you need payment opons, please go to Alissa’s office (SYMR 205) before classes begin.
In the Fall II term, schedule requests will only be accepted from students who have documentaon to support their need for a specific
schedule. For example, if you have a job on campus, you must bring an official work schedule with your hours on it. If you are a Level 6
student and you are taking a UNT class, you must bring a copy of your schedule from EIS. Only requests with documentaon will be
processed.
Schedule requests should also be made in advance; the Schedule Preference form will be available on the IELI website starng Octobe3 (Monday, Week 7). All requests must be submied by Friday, October 14 (Friday, Week 8), in order to be processed before the Fall I
term begins. If you want to request a schedule, you must submit your form before the end of Fall I.
Remember, studying English is a full‐me job, and you should expect to be on campus from 8am – 5pm. Somemes, students have a
morning class and an aernoon class; this happens in the university, also. Fortunately, unlike university classes, IELI classes only last fo
8 weeks; you can handle any schedule for 8 weeks. Starng in the Fall II term, IELI will not change your schedule because you have an
8am class and a 3pm class. Instead, you must make an eff ort to manage your me wisely and study on campus. Only requests with
documentaon will be processed.
