Cowboys Stadium Tour & Rangers Baseball Game — Saturday, July 7, from 1:30 pm ‐ 11:30 pm.  Explore 

Cowboys Stadium with IELI and learn about the architecture, engineering, art, and business decisions behind the 

world‐famous stadium. We’ll visit the football field, the Dallas Cowboys locker room, and more on a guided tour! 

Aerwards, we’ll go to Rangers Ballpark and cheer for Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers as they play the Minnesota Twins!  Tickets ar

$10 for IELI students and $32 for family and friends.  A limited number of ckets are available, so sign up in Alissa’s office (SYMR 205)!

Allen Outlet Mall Shopping Trip — Saturday, July 14, from 12 pm—6 pm. Join IELI on a shopping trip to the Outlet 

Mall in Allen, TX. This mall has over 90 brand‐name stores with low prices (like Addidas, Nike, Coach, Ralph Lauren, 

etc.). Sign up in Amber’s office, SYMR 214, if  you would like to parcipate. 

Parcipaon in IELI field trips and 

acvies is a privilege. When you are on 

a field trip, we expect you to act responsibly, to cooperate, and to treat 

those in charge with respect. You are 

represenng IELI, UNT, and your country

and community members will form 

opinions based on your acons. If  you ac

inappropriately, you will be suspended 

from parcipang in acvies for the res

of  the term! 

Also, due to inappropriate behavior by 

several students, we will not play paint‐

ball 

again.

Do you want an extra opportunity to pracce speaking English with Americans? Come 

to IELI’s Conversaon Hour! This is a great  opportunity to meet American volunteers 

and pracce your English. There will be free food and conversaon games.

Only 40 students may a end, and you must be on Amber’s sign‐up list.

Conversa on Hour will be held on Fridays during the Summer term. Students must sign up

each Monday to secure their spot for Conversa on Hour. If you sign up but do not come, you

will not be able to sign up for future conversa on hours.

The Conversa on Hour on July 13 will be a Potluck. Start thinking about which dish you would 

like to share!

Fireworks Show—Wednesday, July 4, at UNT Fouts Field. The gates 

to the stadium open at 5:30 p.m., and fireworks will begin at 

sundown. There will be carnival games, music, and fun acvies inside the stadium. 

Walk over to Fouts Field to watch the fireworks! 

What is the 4th of  July? 

The 4th of  July is the United States’ Independence Day. It is a special holiday for many 

Americans as they remember the country’s Founding Fathers and celebrate freedom. 

Americans usually celebrate this holiday with their family through acvies such as 

barbeques and picnics. Many cies (like Denton) also have parades in the morning on 

the 4th of  July. At night, most people celebrate with fireworks. Many cies put on big 

fireworks shows. Some people buy fireworks and shoot them off themselves for fun, 

but you cannot do this inside a city.

“Feel like a million bucks” 

Definion: to feel wonderful 

Example: When Stacy started IELI, she placed into Level 

0. She studied hard and graduated without failing a 

single class. When she received her diploma, she felt like 

a million bucks. All her hard work had paid off . 

Study Skills class is an opportunity for IELI students to get addional 

individual aenon to improve their English skills. Students who aend 

will receive tutoring for whichever subject they choose. 

Study Skills will be available every day from 10 am ‐ 2 pm, in 

SYMR 223.  If  you are interested, please talk to Jeff or send an 

email to Jeff rey.Rasch@unt.edu. 

No food or drink in the lab, except boled water.

Starng in January 2013, UNT will 

become a “Smoke Free Campus”.

This fall, Level 6 students interested in pursuing an MBA or MS in Business will have the opportunity to enroll in the IELI Pre MBA/MS 

program. The new program is a fast track to the graduate business program at UNT, allowing students to study alongside American 

students in a management course and take special academic English courses designed for the business seng. 

Students receive provisional admission to the UNT College of  Business, accelerang the students’ transion to graduate

Your LAB/ASC class is not oponal. In fact, these classes have never 

been oponal. These classes are 

designed to give you extra pracce 

in developing your language skills, 

and each class has a purpose. Your 

goal is to be successful in an 

American university environment, 

so you need to aend all of  your 

classes and do your best. 

August Mini‐term Registraon will begin on Monday of  Week 6

(July 9) in the IELI Main Office.  Students who are interested 

should register for the term in Sycamore 204, between July 9 and

July 13. 

The Mini‐term is an intensive 3‐week course designed for one 

discipline only per student.  The classes will be 5 ½ hours a day, 

5 days a week, for 3 weeks, with ONE test at the end of  the 

term.  Tuion is $1,308.55 and is due on Friday, July 27, before 

12 pm.  Any student who does not pay his/her tuion in full will 

not be permied to aend the Mini‐term on Monday 

morning.  Payment plans are not an opon for the Mini‐term. 

Mini‐term will begin on Monday, July 30 and end on Friday, 

August 17. 

Courses off ered during the Mini‐term (based on sufficient 

enrollment): 

Wring Levels 5 and 6 (Each class must have at least 10

students enrolled for the class to “make.”) 

Mini‐term eligibility: 

“R2” students will not be permied to take a Mini‐term 

course. 

Students may take one course as long as the Mini‐term 

course does not create a 3‐Level Split upon their compleon

of  the 3‐week course. 

Students will apply for the Mini‐term in the Main Office; howeve

a commiee will select the students based on their performance

behavior, and history at IELI.
