On Sunday, Limehills School held the annual Bee Society Gala Day. People from around the community gathered in the Limehills Hall to indulge in bee learning that Limehills School offered. The gala day included Bee workshops, the selling of honey from around the community and even 3 master classes of cooking with honey, presented by chef Scott Richardson. Beekeepers shared their expertise with newcomers through different workshops involving new techniques and ideas like what trees to plant to attract bees and found this day a great opportunity to fundraise our way to Deep Cove. We ran a BBQ and got great money off it. There was also a Co-op being run where the we also made lots from, but the biggest hit on the bee gala day was the Limehills School honey which all sold. We had a great time and have worked hard and I hope we have a beetastic time in Deep Cove later this term.

Thanks to all the parents and community for help given to the bee gala. Without you this event wouldn’t bee possible. And to Year 8 parents for giving your time up to help us fundraise.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the Tryathlon and Bee Gala last week. Both events were huge successes and neither would be possible without the amazing support we get from parents at Limehills. We are especially excited to watch the progress of our top triathletes as they set themselves challenging goals for the Southland Secondary Schools and later the NZ National Triathlon events.

Its great to see so many of you already making use of the Limehills app. The development of this app was funded by our Home and School Association. Using the app will save Jasmine lots of time around absence and bus messages and will enable us to send alerts directly to your smart phone. The app also provides a 'one-stop-shop' for notices, newsletters and events and you can follow links to school documents via our website and Facebook pages. Contact us if you have any problems downloading the app to your smart phone.

NEW SCHOOL APP LAUNCHED

We are very excited to launch our new Limehills app! The app is free to download

from the app store and will help us communicate more efficiently. You can use the app to send a b s e n c e s / b u s messages, check dates, follow links to class blogs, notices, newsletters and more.

WAIMUMU INVENTORS My invention was selected to go to the Waimumu field days. I was interviewed by some judges and got a photo taken before being told that I was free to go. Me and my friend Jack went for a wander around the field days. We saw lots of cool things even though we spent most of our time in the lollie shops getting sour and sweet lollies. When we had 1 hr left, we decided to go find some helium balloons. We were looking for ages until I finally had the guts to ask someone where they were.... We found them and were heading back to meet up with Mr Turrell and the gang. Later, at about 8:45 that night, Mr T rang me up and asked if we could go to the field days to pick up some prizes some kids might have won from the field days. They were calling out prizes for so many people. Now it was onto the Kiwi ingenuity award. Second place was a grown man in about his thirtys. Next was first place...My heart was pounding. Then my name was called out! I had won! I got a trophy, a certificate and a check for three hundred dollars!!!!! I was stoked with what I had achieved. I have now been in 4 newspapers and on the radio. I will hopefully be talking to Hunting and Fishing New Zealand to get my invention made and take it up to Hamilton / Mystery Creek. By Connor Newell

My trip to Winton in the Mini last Friday

I went to Winton in the green Mini with Mrs Henderson. We went to the bank to get some change. I like the Mini because it is noisy and little. The dashboard is made of old wood.

SVA APPRECIATION Year 8 Student Volunteer Army students received some thank you letters for the funds from their biscuit baking: Winton Volunteer Fire Brigade “Thank you very kindly for your donation from your biscuit baking fundraiser. We are sure you have learnt many life long skills and what it takes to be a valuable members of a team. We wish you well with your future business ventures.” Winton Rotary “At Rotary on Monday night, we were thrilled to receive your cheque from the profits of the biscuits you designed, made, packaged and sold. Well done to all of you and what a great learning experience - and hopefully fun too!”

LUNCH ORDERS FOR ALL OF TERM 1 Room 8 will be fundraising for the Deep Cove trip by providing the option of sausages and meat patties for lunch every Thursday. Orders must be at the office with the correct change in an envelope or stuck to a piece of paper by Wednesdays. Sausages in bread $2. Meat patty sandwich $2.50.
