Today we held our ANZAC service to remember the soldiers who fought in the war. We made wreaths to symbolise a

circle of eternal life. We commemorate ANZAC day on the 25th of April because it is the day the soldiers landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula one hundred and one years ago.

We commemorate ANZAC day because of the giant sacrifice the soldiers made to our world

the way it is today. If they didn’t make this sacrifice the world would be a lot different.

The poem called ‘For the Fallen’ was published in the London Times in September 1914 and

has been incorporated into many remembrance services:

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

ANZAC SERVICE PREPARATION

Ronald McDonald Family Room Thank you very much to the mums and even grandmums who have offered to help out with the cooking of weekend meals for the families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald Family Room because they have a sick child in Southland Hospital.

Our next request is for 2 litre ice-cream containers, as this is what we will be packaging the food into. Please send your

empty containers along to me in Room 8. If you would like to help with the preparing of food, there are still spaces on our food roster. Send a note or come and see me. By Hannah Thorburn

We look forward to seeing you

BE BRAVE MR T! Last Tuesday Mr Turrell faced his fears and endured the painless experience of receiving

the Influvac vaccine. After awhile of

convincing, Mr Turrell finally agreed, but with great reluctance. Not only did Mr

Turrell receive the vaccination, but so did all of the teachers including Mrs Smith! He was

so brave and showed his RIPPERS throughout. We are all so proud of

Mr Turrell because he stepped outside his comfort zone and showed responsibility. By Ariana, Bella & Jaime

SOUTHLAND SCHOOLS SWIMMING CHAMPS

On Sunday 10 April we went to Splash Palace to

race against other schools.

We had to get up at 7.00 am to be there at 8:00

ready for a warm up. It was very busy and loud and we

had to rush to get in the line for practise dives. It

was my turn to race in the 50 metre backstroke. I came 3rd. Then I had to do the 50 metre butterfly. I came 5th. We had to

go up and get our ribbons at the prize ceremony. It was very

exciting and lots of fun and everyone tried their hardest. By Amie Pratt

Thank you to Michelle Pratt for all her time and commitment in coaching and managing our school team of Ben Anderson,

Brooke Anderson, Jaime Anderson, Bayden Cooper, Rylan

Cooper, Amie Pratt, Charlotte Strachan, Elsie Turrell and Milly Turrell.

ENVIRONMENT HUI PRACTICE INVITATION TO PARENTS

Dear parents, Limehills School has been chosen as the venue for

the Enviroschools' Hui for teachers on the 12th of May next term. To prepare for this day we are having a 'dummy' run -through of

some of the workshops that we will be holding. We would love it if we could have some parents come along to practise on! There

will be a kowhai kookie at the end of the workshops as an incentive.

So if you are keen, please come to school on Friday 6th

May at 11:30am and let the office know so we know how many biscuits to make.

Please come to the office to be greeted as we will also be having

a mihi whakatau as part of this practice.

An awesome DJ lunchtime picnic!

13th April – DAY 3 Today we went on a cruise around Doubtful Sound and out to the Tasman Sea. The water was flat and the sky was blue. We were so lucky to have such great weather. On our cruise we saw Bottle Nosed dolphins, seals, albatross and Little Blue penguins. We also got the chance to go under a waterfall and fill up a cup to drink the water. Another thing we did was meet some tourist friends on the boat, which we took selfies with! Overall the cruise was an amazing experience. I'm sure everyone would do it again in a heart beat! Now everyone is out walking to Helena Falls. When everyone comes back we will all head out fishing again to see what else we can reel in. Will it be a shark? Who knows! Final instalment of Bella’s Diary will be next term.

12th April – DAY 2 Today was another great day here at the cove. Everyone went on a walk. They walked the Brasell Point nature track and then carried on to the old Doubtful Sound track that led them onto Stella Falls. While they did that I stayed back at the hostel and went fishing at the wharf. When everyone got back we had free time so everyone went out fishing in the boats. The biggest fish of the day was caught by Bryce in a very secret spot. He caught a Tarakihi. One of the biggest Jock Stewart’s was caught by Liam. Liam was also fishing in the very same secret spot. Everyone caught at least 3 fish and some even caught close to 20! For last night’s entertainment, group 2 organised the skittle game and the blindfolded food game. This game was very entertaining for the people watching, but very disgusting for the people eating the food. Some people even thought the food was alive and biting them and others didn't even finish one mouthful!

11th April - DAY 1 Today was great fun. First we stopped at Mossburn for morning tea then carried onto Rainbow Reach where we went across the swing bridge above the Waiau River. We then went to Pearl Habour and unloaded our stuff onto the boat. We boarded the boat and started the great trip across Lake Manapouri to the West Arm where we hopped on the bus for the final leg of our journey to Deep Cove. This took about 30 minutes. We saw heaps of waterfalls and some amazing views, but it was too cloudy to see very far so we didn't stop at the lookout point. While the rest of the group unloaded the gear and went for a walk down to the wharf, I waited at the hostel, since I have a fractured foot, and finished organising my groups entertainment for the night. When they got back we started playing cards. This was great fun and there is definitely some friendly rivalry between all of us. "Spoons" is the game that we all played. Everyone loves this game but it is very competitive! We had lasagne for tea which we had made beforehand and chocolate and strawberry mousse with fruit for dessert, Yum! Our late night entertainment ran smoothly and was a great laugh!
