Last Friday in assembly The Pioneers got given some dictionaries from The Rotary Club of Winton. Mr Scully came to present them to
our class, on stage. We have used them lots in class and really love them. They have pictures and diagrams in them and they explain most of the English words. We would like to say thank you for our dictionaries. From Room 5.
SETTLERS MUSEUM On Tuesday Room 5 and 6 visited the Otago Settlers Museum in Dunedin. We went to learn
about what living in the 1800s was like. To help us learn we dressed up like early pioneers and took photos of artefacts from the olden days. When we dressed up it made us think that we were really pioneers. We acted out being on a real ship. We really liked choosing our names and acting as people from Scotland coming to New Zealand for a new life.
The pioneers spent six months on the journey out. It wasn’t a pleasant trip for them. They woke up each day, ate porridge, scrubbed the decks clean and were often seasick. The
only fun thing they got to do was dance on fine evenings. Once they arrived here the first pioneers lived in clay houses with only one room. They would make the roof waterproof by using lots of reeds.
Being a pioneer would be a tough life. Now our lives are quite easy. By Josh Cairns and Carson Laing
Who do you think will become President of the USA? Trump or Clinton...,? Rubio or Sanders…? It’s all a big fuss! Did you know that Donald Trump has no political experience. At all! He just has money and that’s why he thinks he can run for President. The scary thing is Trump is leading the Republican candidate with Clinton just behind him in the Democratic race. But Ronald Regan was President as well and he was an actor before he became President so who knows, Trump could be good. It’s like having Sam Neil as Prime Minister of NZ! Rhiannon said that would be crazy!!! What would you do if Donald Trump became president? What do you think he would do?

Our group went to the Water Treatment Plant at Clifton and we found out that lots of things can go down the toilet. We even found a $5 note.!There were lots more things like cameras, phones, jandals and even a pipe. We climbed down the ladder and it went underground. The person who took us underground was called Paul. There were lots of pipes under ground. At the end of the session we went into the lab and found out that they test the water everyday. REMINDERS Just a reminder that there is assembly tomorrow at 2.15pm in the hall.
Also next weekend is Easter, school is closed on Good Friday, Easter Monday & Tuesday. Back to school on Wednesday 23 March.
Our group went to the Southland Museum and Art Gallery and made icebergs out of polystyrene. First we got a board for the sea and got the polystyrene and took it to the adults. The adults glued the polystyrene onto the board with a hot glue gun. Then we got PVA glue and newspaper and glued strips of newspaper onto the polystyrene. Next we painted it grey and waited for it to dry and then painted it white. Next we got blue paint and painted the sea. We made it look rough and put glitter on it to make it shiny. We went outside to have lunch. We saw Henry the tuatara who is 111 years old!
After that, we all got in the car and set off for Demo World. Once we got to Demo World we all ran down the lane to the lady who
operated it. We had a talk about the rules and then went off around the place. Demo world is a place that has a small town that is made out of old stuff. First we all rushed up to an old
boat wreck. Then we went to see some donkeys and went around the corner to a little farm. There were turkeys, p e a c o c k s , b a n t o m s , chickens and roosters. We walked into the old Riverton hospital. There were old dentist chairs, air tanks, and old freaky dolls. There was also a train station, which had the whistle and an old wheel chair. Next we all set off to the cars and went back to school. By Ryan Munro

ANZAC MEMORIAL Last Friday a group of us went down to the Limehills. We have decided that it would be a great idea to go down and do all the weeding and tidy it up before the ANZAC service. Ruby,
Brooke and I rang up Mrs Anderson and asked if she could come down and help us because we needed parent help. She said that she would love to come down and help us because this
would be a great idea. Some boys and Mr Turrell came down to see what we should do on
the painting side of it. They went into Winton and brought some paint. While we were down there Maisie, Charlotte and I caught a skink. When we were finished we brought it
back to show all the little kids and then released it. When we went into Room 1 and 2 they kept asking why they couldn't see where it was. We then taught them what camouflage
means. We will be going down next week to do more weeding and planting.
