I thought this would be a good way to distinguish between the different flavours without having to change the individual logos too much. We decided together than we didn’t want to change the logo completely, it still needed to have a recognisable element of the feel good brand, so throughout my initial ideas I kept the feel good type the same, but removed the little smiles as they didn’t work when the logo was scaled down. I wanted to work with the existing shape of the letters and embellished it with symbols that were more fitting with the fun and light hearted nature of the Feel Good brand. I wanted the added imagery to flow with the curved nature of the letters. In my original ideas the logo didn’t have a background, I prefer it without the background as its much more open and I like the white space, however I combined this with Sarah’s idea of the background shape, which allows the logo to be reversed out on the bottles and looks much more united. I also prefer the logos using fruits to the drips logo, the drips in hindsight look too much like the Rowntree’s/Fruit Pastilles logo, however this may have looked less unified across the packaging as each logo would be different. There is also the issue of the fruit contained within each drink and whether this would work in the illustrative format, it works for apple and blueberry but may not transfer across to the other flavours so well. LOGO DEVELOPMENT To develop a new logo I started by looking at the colours of each of the fruits contained in each drink flavour.

FINAL LOGOS

The final logo set. I created an individual logo variation for each of Feel Good drinks 6 flavour combinations. The aim was that these would make the different drinks flavours more easily distinguishable on a shelf. If I were to develop these further I could add further distinction between the still and sparkling variations, as you cant tell from the logos alone which are which.

The original type from my experiments was replaced with the typeface Sarah designed for the bottle copy, and has much more impact.

The logo is designed to have a white outline on the bottles to add contrast with the colour of the juice within, however the logo outline and text can be reversed out so they can be printed on other media such as in print ads

I also developed an over arching company logo based on the drink designs. This aimed to tie the company to its products more, as currently it has 2 different logos that don’t resemble one another. I tried to include as many of the drinks colours in this logo as possible, but my original design that contained more looked too much like the Rowntree’s logo.

The bottle redesign was one of the main parts of our project. We wanted to create a new shape that was much more distinctive than their existing bottles. We also wanted the labelling to be individual, and not look reminiscent of existing drinks in the same market.

Our final decision was to have a transparent bottle, where the background colour for the label would be the colour of the juice within.

The copy on the label was developed by Sarah. We decided that if people had a better idea of what the drinks actually tasted like, they would be more likely to pick one up and try it, so the copy was developed to be highly descriptive and individual to each drink.

I added to Sarah’s copy using the existing imagery and symbols from the logo. I developed two different templates, one each for the still and sparkling variations to make it easier to tell without reading the copy which was which. The bottle designs would take their colours from the logo of each drink, keeping the theme of each consistent.

I also tried various ways of rendering the bottle mock ups, we wanted to physically make the bottles but couldn’t find a bottle that was an appropriate shape. I’m quite happy with what we have ended up with, but I would like to have produced a more realistic image.

CONTEXT DEVELOPMENT

YCN Feel Good DrinksIndividual Submission BoardsOUGD203Bethany Yates

Another of my responsibilities was to place the work we had designed in context. We decided to use a silhouetted approach as sourcing appropriate photographs was proving difficult, and even with these it would have been hard to place our posters within the images without making them look fake, as there large areas of white space which would have needed a lot of photoshopping to fit with scene lighting.

I took the image elements from the logos and applied them to various type pieces Sarah developed for the various promotional materials we developed. These used a similar layout to the bottle labels to keep a consistent visual theme throughout.

I also developed a range of voucher, again using the same imagery and colour schemes. These had differing imagery depending on the type of drink.
