INDUSRTY TRUST:Can you stop film piracy?General Research:

People should respect the work of the directors, musicians or actors and stop stealing their productions. Most of them watch a pirate DVD or download, instead of buying.

Movies need money to be done. Therefore, we, people should start buying these movies legally; this means that money goes back to the producers in order for them to make more of them.

We are asked to create something (could be a video, installation, poster series or anything) that would influence people to stop or decrease piracy. It must be positive and not scary for people; inspirational and original.

Chara and me decided to work as a group again.

Jack Black:

Jack Black is presented in this video, talking about piracy and trying to influence people in order to stop downloading or buying copied DVDs/CDs.

Disney anti-piracy commercial:

In this video, Disney, distorts the quality of the movie: “TinkerBell” saying that pirated movies come with low quality, so people should buy the original ones.

Piracy is a Crime:

A video that is placed on the internet and DVDs, expressing the idea that we wouldn’t take anything illegally so we shouldn’t steal other’s work (films). It is a crime.

You make the Movies (2009)Lord of the Rings: Two Towers (2002):

This commercial is trying to persuade people to stop piracy, showing a man who holds a couple’s ring in the way that the little monster in the movie did. Therefore, people in a way are part of the movies.

INDUSRTY TRUST:Can you stop film piracy?Initial Ideas:

4) Video: Someone is sharing some stuff which belong to someone else. Like people who share music and movies that belong to the directors, scenario writers and actors.

5) Installation: A projector showing “metaphorically” what happens to a person , director, or actor , if you download illegal material of theirs. (melting faces, destruction etc.)

6) Poster Series: Fake famous movies’ posters and covers compared to the original ones.

After we researched the issue of the anti-piracy commercials and got some inspiration, we came-up with six(6) ideas:

1) Kids Story (probably animation): which would refer to children so they would learn from a small age the right and wrong about piracy and copyright.

2) Digital Zine: which would be available in the web, social networks so that people get information about piracy and copyrights.

3) Photoshoot: a special photoshoot with thieves(people who download or buy copied stuff) and victims (people who make this stuff): theme: Copyrights and piracy arguing and fighting.

INDUSRTY TRUST:Can you stop film piracy?“Disrespecting creativity”:

Finally we chose the idea of the video: Someone is sharing some stuff which belong to someone else. Like people who share music and movies that belong to the directors, scenario writers and actors.

Title: “Disrespecting creativity”

Scenario: The video shows two people, in which one of them is holding something he/she has created (it could be anything: cookies, food, photographs, artwork). They are walking down the street when the person holding his/her creation needs to go somewhere quickly. Passing the creation over to the other person, he/she leaves the scene. The person left with the creation, then, starts sharing the creation with everyone else and finally disappears. The other person comes back and realises what the other person has done to his/her creation; that it has been shared with everyone and nothing can be done to reverse it and get the creation back.

Concept: In this video, we are trying to show that people who share music and films or download them illegally from the internet or even buying cheap copies, should stop doing it. Movies and music belong to the musicians, directors, writers and actors. They are not mine, or anyone’s who is just the viewer and the listener of these productions. So, let’s start legally buying the movies, music or everything else we like, and then they could be ours in some way.

INDUSRTY TRUST:Can you stop film piracy?“Disrespecting creativity” - Outcome:

Here are some photographs we took for our idea of the video.

The first one on the left presents the two persons; a man and a woman, with cookies. The woman must leave and gives the cookies to her friend. In the second one the man shares the cookies for free. The third one, on the right, shows the woman (cookies’ maker) who is sad because they took her cookies while a woman on the background is still eating.

The photos below are four(4) snapshots from the video we made which shows the bowl being emptied.
