Hanover College FaCTS

Hanover is a private, coeducational liberal arts college, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.a.). Founded in 1827, it is the oldest private, four-year college in Indiana.

Location The town of Hanover is located in southeastern Indiana. louisville, Ky., is 45 miles away, Cincinnati, ohio, 70 miles, and Indianapolis, Ind., 95 miles.

Campus Hanover College sits on 650 acres overlooking the ohio river. There are 35 major buildings, characterized by georgian architecture.

Enrollment Hanover’s student body includes more than 1,000 young men and women. almost all students live on campus.

Faculty More than 90 percent of Hanover’s faculty members hold doctorates or other terminal degrees. The student-faculty ratio is 10 to 1, and many faculty members reside on campus grounds, creating an academic community.

Academic calendar Hanover operates on a 4-4-1 calendar. Students take four courses each during Fall and Winter Terms. Spring Term is devoted to a month of concentrated study on campus, internships or off-campus programs.

Areas of study Hanover offers more than 30 areas of majors, including a design-your-own major with core strengths in the sciences, education and business. More than one third of our students go on to graduate and professional studies.

Costs Direct student expenses for a year at Hanover, including tuition, room and board, are $37,500 for the 2011/12 school year. The most current cost information is always available from the office of admission.

Financial assistance More than 90 percent of Hanover’s students receive some form of financial assistance. College aid is available in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, and campus employment.

Hanover’s strong financial base supports its rank in the top 10 percent of the nation’s colleges on an endowment-per-student basis.

Accreditation Hanover College is accredited by the north Central association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

Head Coach Molly JonesMolly Jones is in her 14th season as Hanover’s head coach. She has racked up more than 300 career victories as a collegiate coach, including a 193-143 record on the Panthers’ bench.

Through the past four seasons, Jones has guided her program to 78 victories, including 25 wins in 2010/11. Both achievements set school records.

The Heartland Collegiate athletic Conference named Jones its coach of the year after last season’s squad posted a 25-2 overall record and earned the league’s regular-season crown with a 17-1 mark. The Panthers also captured the HCaC’s post-season tournament championship and grabbed the conference’s automatic berth in the nCaa III tourney.

The effort marked the second straight season that Hanover reached the 20-win mark and the national tournament berth was the second in school history (1996/97).

The Panthers posted a 20-7 overall record in 2009/10. The squad placed third in the Heartland Collegiate athletic Conference standings with a 12-4 mark and advanced to the championship game in the league’s post-season tournament.

Jones has coached 21 all-conference selections during her stint with the Panthers. among that group are 14 of the top career scorers and nine of the top rebounders in school history.

Jones tallied a 134-121 record in 11 seasons as head coach at Marian College in Indianapolis, Ind., before returning to her alma mater in 1998.

as a Hanover student, she earned three basketball letters and also lettered in volleyball and softball. She was named the outstanding senior female athlete in 1986.

She and her husband, John, who serves as associate director of athletics, are the parents of three children: Kelsey, Tyler and Coleman.

John Jones - assistant Coach

John Jones is in his 12th season as an assistant coach for the Panthers. a former player at Marian College, Jones has collected more than 15 years experience as a teacher, coach and administrator at the secondary level.

Jones has a dual role at Hanover, also serving as associate athletic director. Prior to joining Hanover’s staff, he served three years as athletic director at Southwestern High School in Hanover.

He graduated from Marian in 1991.

Micah whitted - assistant Coach

Micah Whitted is in her first season as an assistant coach, but no stranger to Hanover’s program. She played four seasons in the Panthers’ backcourt and helped the squad tally a 78-29 record from 2008-2011, including a school-record 25-2 mark last season.

a native of norman, Ind., Whitted started more than half of her career appearances and played in 89 straight contests before an injury nudged her to the sidelines for six games. logging time as a shooting or point guard, she capped her career with 573 points and dished out 228 assists in 100 games.

Whitted resides in Madison, Ind., where she works as a physical trainer.

President sue dewine Dr. Sue DeWine became the 15th president of Hanover College, July 1, 2007.

as the former provost of Marietta College (ohio), DeWine has extensive experience as an administrator, fund-raiser and communication consultant.

DeWine was a professor at ohio University from 1985 to 2000 in organizational communication and research and consulting. She served as director of the School of Interpersonal Communication from 1988 to 2000. She received an award for scholarship, teaching and leadership and an award for dedication to excellence and acceptance of diversity, vision and forthrightness from the national Communication association.

She has served as a consultant to Fortune 500 companies, government, and educational institutions. a well-published author, she has written more than 60 communication-oriented books and articles.

DeWine earned a doctorate in communication and counseling psychology from Indiana University in 1977. She received a master’s in rhetoric and public address from Miami University (ohio) in 1967 and a bachelor’s degree in english and speech education from Miami in 1966.

lynn Hall - athletic director lynn Hall is in her 13th year as Hanover’s director of athletics. Under her leadership, the Hanover’s athletic program has continued to thrive, with both the men’s and women’s programs winning Heartland Collegiate athletic Conference all-sports awards.

a 1982 Hanover graduate, Hall was the head coach for the Panthers’ volleyball program from 1987 to 1998. She was able to build an outstanding volleyball tradition, win three conference championships and be named league coach of the year three times.

She is a past member of the nCaa Division III national volleyball Committee.

In addition to her administrative work with athletics, she also serves as a faculty member in the exercise science department.

natalie Morse #15a transfer from DePauw University, Morse was second on Hanover’s squad in 2010/11 with 60 assists and 23 three-pointers. She shot 37.5 percent from long range and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe in 14 games after joining the Panthers for the second half of the 2009/11 season.

Caitlin Bischoff #31 an honor student, Bischoff earned academic all-conference honors from the Mid-Indiana Conference as a junior and senior. She helped propel Hamilton Heights to three consecutive league titles in her final three seasons with the Huskies.

Megan Caudill #11 Caudill was a three-time all-north Central Conference honoree at richmond. She was named to the richmond Palladium-Item’s all-area team twice and also earned the red Devils’ Heart of a Champion award as a senior. She set the school’s single-game record in 2010 with seven three-pointers against greenfield Central.

sarah Hopf #32 an academic all-state honoree, Hopf also was an all-Pocket Conference selection as a senior and earned honorable-mention recognition the previous season. She helped lead the rangers to back-to-back sectional titles in 2010 and 2011 and competed in the Indiana Class Basketball 2a-1a all-Star Classic after her senior campaign.

alicia Hopkins #24 Hopkins earned all-Hoosier Hills Conference honors at Columbus east as a junior and senior. In 2011, she set the olympians’ single-game record with 12 steals against Bedford-north lawrence and eventually established school marks for steals in a single-season (147) and career (412).

shauna watson #30 Watson was a member of Concordia’s 3a state championship team as a junior and helped lead the Cadets to the semi-state the following season. as a senior, she led Concordia in assists and steals. She also played for Indiana’s squad in the annual nancy rehm Border Wars Classic against ohio.

HearTland ConferenCe

The Heartland Collegiate athletic Conference is a union of 10 private small colleges and universities from Indiana, ohio and Kentucky. Formed in 1997, the Heartland Conference is affiliated with the national Collegiate athletic association and participates at the Division III level, which offers no athletic scholarships.

The league currently sponsors men’s championship in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field and wrestling. Championships are awarded in nine women’s sports, including: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field and volleyball.

Five member schools were formerly affiliated with the Indiana Collegiate athletic Conference and three schools were members of the association of Mideast Colleges.

anderson University, Franklin College, Hanover, Manchester College and the rose-Hulman Institute of Technology were each charter members of the ICaC. Bluffton University, Defiance College and the College of Mount St. Joseph were each members of the aMC.

Transylvania University, a former member of the national association of Intercollegiate athletics (naIa), officially joined the Heartland Conference in 2001. earlham College, a former member of the north Coast athletic Conference, joined the HCaC prior to the 2010/11 academic year.

Junior Abbey Schmahl and seniors Torin Franz and Molly Martin led Hanover to the 2010/11 Heartland Conference regular-season and tournament championships.

Hanover’s 2010/11 squad posted a school-best 25-2 record and earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 17-1 mark. The Panthers also won the HCAC tournament championship to advance to the program’s second berth in the NCAA III tournament.

Centrally located, the facility houses an arena, a fieldhouse, a 6,000-square-foot weight training and fitness room, an athletic training area, an indoor running track, racquetball courts and state-of-the-art classrooms.

Collier arena, named in honor of hall-of-fame basketball coach John Collier, has been the Panthers’ home court for the past 14 seasons. The climate-controlled facility seats 2,000 fans for basketball and can hold up to 2,400 for concerts and lectures.

Hanover in Collier arena Hanover’s women’s basketball program moved from lynn Hall to Collier arena prior to the start of the 1995/96 season.

The Panthers finished 8-4 at home in the inaugural season in Collier arena. The program has posted a 121-61 record in the building through its first 16 seasons, including a 14-0 record at home last season.
