SERIES HISTORYThis is the first meeting with the Leopards since 1996 when the Bonnies played Lafayette in the Manhattan Tournament, winning 68-60. Their previous meeting was in 1985 when St. Bonaventure was in Division II.

The Brown and White outrebounded Niagara 32-20 with redshirt senior tiara Johnson pulling down a game-high seven boards to lead the Bonnies. defense once again carried the Brown and White to victory, as they held the Purple Eagles (0-3) to 43 percent shooting (20-46). St. Bonaventure has now only trailed for two minutes and nine seconds through four games and has held all four opponents to under 50 points.

PaIntInG the town brownThe Bonnies have a knack for in-the-paint scoring as 124 points have come from the lane. Opponents have been held to 48 points inside the paint as the defense shuts down inside shooting. Forty seven percent of the Bonnies’ points have come from down the lane.

Only four players have scored double-digits against the Brown and White, while Akron did not have any players score more than six points. Akron only scored 37 points marking the second time in as many seasons that an opponent was held under 40. Last season, the Bonnies shut down Yale, allowing only 35 points to be scored. The Brown and White have forced their opponents into 56 turnovers in three games.

Canisius was able to score the opening basket to lead, but senior andrea Doneth opened the scoring and that would be the closest the Griffs came to the lead. Akron was within two points, 3:00 into the Bonnies home opener, but the Bonnies would not let the Zips come within seven points of their lead through the game.

This is the third season that that Bonnies have defeated Binghamton in their opening four games. in 2008, the Bonnies pushed past the Bearcats, 66-51 in the home-opener at the Reilly Center. The season before, they beat Binghamton 58-53 in the St. Bonaventure Shootout in Elmira, N.Y.

HeLPInG out where she canSenior andrea Doneth is just 34 assists away from breaking into the top 10 on the all-time assists list. She currently has 229, leading the team with ten so far this season. Beth Gromlowicz currently holds the 10th spot with 263 from 1989-92.

suPer seniorsWhen seniors andrea Doneth and Dana Mitchell joined the team in 2006-07, the Bon-nies had not had a winning season in eight years. in their rookie season, St. Bonaventure went 16-15 to break the trends of years past. Now, three seasons later, the Bonnies have 57 triumphs, totaling more than the program’s combined total from the last six years (2000-06).

Can’t Wait to get on the road again...The Bonnies only travel to six non-conference games this season, but will travel more than 4,000 miles and spend almost six combined days traveling. St. Bonaventure hopes to continue its out-of-conference road success in the 2009-10 season follow-ing a 6-3 non-conference road record last season. The Bonnies have already been successful in two road games, winning at in-state rivals Binghamton and Canisius.

Court smartsSenior Katelyn Murray was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America second team, as selected by the College Sports information directors of America. Murray’s ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America nomination is her second in as many years, as she made third team in the 2007-08 season. Murray graduated with a 4.0 grade point average in biology.

As a team, for the sixth time in the last seven academic years, St. Bo-naventure earned a spot on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Associa-tion (WBCA) Academic Team Honor Roll as the Bonnies ranked 16th in the country among NCAA division i institutions with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.35.

Double figures ClubThe Brown and White owned an 8-3 record last season when someone scored 20 or more points in a game. Dana Mitchell led the way in 20-point games with eight and Katelyn Murray tallied behind her with four. When senior ashley edwards had a 10-point game against Fordham, all 10 of the Bonnies in coach Crowley’s regular rotation scoredindoublefiguresatleastoncelastseason.Mitchellledthewaywith31doublefigurescoringoutputs,whileMurraynotched21doublefiguregames.

1,000-500 ClubDana Mitchell collected the 500th rebound of her career in the Brown and White’s loss to duquesne on February 18. With that mile-stone rebound, Mitchell became just the eighth player in the 38-year history of St. Bonaventure women’s basketball to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds in their career.

two-Minute WarningSt. Bonaventure showed a knack for putting opposing teams away down the stretch last season. The Bonnies were an incredible 21-0 when leading in a game with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

The Bearcats took advantage of a slow offensive start for the Bonnies used a rebound on a missed layup for Erica Carter to put up a 3-point bucket to even the score at 14-14 with 9:38 leftinthefirsthalf. A pair from the charity stripe from sophomore Megan Van Tatenhove started the second stanza in which the Bonnies never looked back going up as much as 25 late in the half. Senior Andrea Doneth continued the Bonnies’ lead when she threw up a last-second shot to beat the shot clock with a 3-point bucket and push the lead to 43-24. Jenkins and Walker hit consecutive layups followed by Jenkins’ 3-pointer and two charity stripe points in less than three minutes to swell the Bonnies’ lead to 52-28. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A solid defensive effort by the St. Bonaventure women’s bas-ketball team led to a convincing 67-37 victory against Akron in the team’s home opener at the Reilly Center on Sunday afternoon. The Bonnie defense held Akron to 30 percent (11-36) shootingfromthefloor.Akrononlyhadsixoffensivereboundsandfoursecond-chancepoints.The Bonnies scored 26 points off 24 turnovers and the pressure defense did not allow an Akron playertoscoremorethansixpoints. BUFFALO, N.Y. – A strong second half effort led the way as the St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team cruised by Canisius 65-47 at the Koessler Athletic Center on Tuesday night. They had eight threes and a number of those were contested. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Sophomore Megan Van Tatenhove scored a career-high 18 points to lead the St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team past Niagara 66-49 in an early afternoon matchup on Thursday during “Youth Day” at the Reilly Center.
