2 November 5 - November 11, • theweeklybuzz.es Information

Dear ReadersWell I did mentioned last week that I was launching a new, very exciting project and now it’s time to tell you all about it! I’d like to invite you along to see us at the BRAND NEW Buzz Expat Centre in Calpe. There’s a full feature on page 23 with all of the details of what we can do to help your life in Spain become a lot better as well as helping you with all the things that you may need whilst living in a foreign country. It’s a very excit-ing service and I just know that you will all soon see the benefits of The Buzz Expat Centre.

With Halloween now behind us it’s time to get serious about Christmas. Where will you be this holiday time? Being here in Spain is great at this festive time, I have seen families and friends spending Christmas Day on the beach many times over the last five years here on the Costa Blanca. You can enjoy the winter sun that is warm enough for t-shirts and shorts (even bikinis) and swimming in the sea is not uncommon either. In the evening time it’s definitely ‘jumpers on’ as the temperatures can drop considerably and to help avoid the winter coughs and colds it’s better to keep warm. Staying in at home in the winter months can also be just as much fun as the months we spend enjoying the warm summer evenings though. We all love the taste of the UK with our slippers and dressing gowns on and snuggling under a blanket on the sofa. These are the warming cosy winter comforts that are a novelty after having the hot sweaty summer months, moaning about the fact that you need the air con on and you can’t stop sweating.

This week it is all about fancy dress and a big party throughout the week as it is the Benidorm fiestas. The biggest and best fancy dress event you will find anywhere in Europe possibly in the world! The streets around the centre of Benidorm known as the Square and the Rincon are full with some of the best costumes that you could ever see, all together in one place. Go along to see the streets filled with people having fun.

The Weekly Buzz is open to the public in the indoor market in Benidorm at our news desk; you can come by and talk to us anytime. We have a display of business partners offering you the best products for your life here in Spain, including property rentals, insurance, money exchange and much more. For those people in the north areas, you can find us at our very new Calpe offices situated in the town centre, near to Specsavers and the dry riverbed.

Please don’t forget that If you are involved in any organisation/charity or if you can tell us about any local events, charity fundraisers or to pass on any useful local information that you may have available, simply email us at [email protected] or call me on 634 310 665.

Happy reading and have a fantastic week.Marco - Editor - Buzz Media

NEW BRITISH CONSULGENERAL ANNOUNCED

The British Embassy has today (4 November) announced that Lloyd Milen, currently Vice Consul for the Alicante region, has been appointed as Consul-General in Barcelona and the Consular Regional Manager for north-east Spain, which includes the popular regions for Britons of Catalun-ya and the Balearic Islands.

Mr Milen, who will take up the po-sition next month, replaces Andrew Gwatkin, who has left for a new role outside the Foreign Office. Recruit-ment for a new Vice Consul in Alicante begins this week.

As Consul-General, Mr Milen will represent UK interests and lead the teams of the British Consulates in Bar-celona, Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza, as well as the British Honorary Con-suls in Menorca, Tarragona, Gerona and Andorra.

Lloyd Milen said: “I am delighted to take up this opportunity to lead three very experienced consular teams who provide high quality assistance to the British visitors and residents that need our help. The consulates of north-east Spain are among the busiest in the world, together handling nearly 600 serious assistance cases last year – from deaths to detentions to hospital-isations - and issuing more than 1200 emergency passports.”

The north-east consular region sees some 5.2 million British visitors every year, many to the popular des-

tinations of Barcelona, the Catalan coast and Balearics resorts. In ad-dition, more than 37,000 Britons are registered as residents of the region, with many more thought to reside for all or part of the year.

Simon Manley, British Ambassa-dor, said:

“Lloyd has been a fantastic asset to British tourists and residents in the Alicante region for the last seven years, and I am very pleased that he will now be taking his skills and expe-rience to lead the teams in north-east Spain and Andorra. I also have no doubt that we will be able to recruit a talented person to replace him as Vice Consul in Alicante, in order to carry on our valuable work there.”

Mr Milen was born in Mid-dlesbrough and studied political sci-ence at Brunel University, followed by roles in the NHS and housing chari-ties, before moving to Spain in 2006. He was appointed Vice Consul in Ali-cante in 2008.

NO ONE WANTS THE DENIA MARRIOTT

by CRIS WEST

The well-known Marriott hotel and golfing resort in Denia went up for auction last Thursday as report-ed in The Weekly Buzz.

However despite rumours that numerous parties were interested in bidding for the property, no one came for-ward to stump up the starting bid of 3.6 million euros. The property has already had it’s land, structure and con-tent valued at over 22 million but as no bid was placed, the price has now dropped to 2.7 million euros and has moved the status of the premises from an auction to a

direct sale for anyone who can offer the new asking price. It isn’t the whole site up for auction but includes the main building complex and a second property on site with a total floor area of 18,724 square meters however does not include the car park and swimming pool.

The five-star resort has been in trouble since it’s opening in 2003 and the new owners will have to take on debts of over 19 million euros owed to the local council and unspecified lenders. Although named the Denia Mar-riott La Sella, the hotel is actually situated in the smaller

town of Jesus Pobre and sees visitors from all over the world coming to use it’s multiple pools and well reviewed golfing facilities. The venue also hosts events and will be home to the up and coming Christmas Gift Fair on the 28th and 29th of November.

Following the debts owed, the previous owners have been arrested which has caused the hotel to go up for auction. The staff at the venue are understandably concerned as fol-lowing Spanish law, the new business owner doesn’t need to continue the contracts for the employees. The auction was declared void after the ‘Tax Agency Embargárselo’ listed the venue for the whole day, but received no enquires nor bids.

MORE MARIJUANA GREENHOUSE FOUNDNational Police agents have

dismantled two greenhouses in Benifato and La Nucia and have arrested two people for an offense against public health after finding more than 900 marijua-na plants hidden in a villa and garage. Both plantations had fully working irrigation systems, ventila-tion and air conditioning.

The investigations began several weeks before when agents were

informed that a woman of British na-tionality, living in Benifato and a Man of Belgian nationality, residing in La Nucia were engaged in a massive cultivation of marijuana inside their homes.

The agents located the first operation In La Nucia, where they were able to see how advanced the growing systems were. The green house they found in Benifato also had modern lighting equipment

comprising self-spotlights that added intensity.

After the dismantlement of the farms, agents recorded that there were 270 marijuana plants, 136 grams of cannabis buds ready to breakdown, 170 grams of canna-bis ready for sale, 60 viagra pills and 430 euros in cash at home in Benifato and 640 marijuana plants in the hydroponic greenhouse in the garage of the home of La Nucia.

RAIN DEVASTATES THE COSTA BLANCA

By CRIS WESTWhilst not classed of-

ficially as a ‘Gota Fria’, many towns and cities all over Spain were hit badly on Monday by the sheer amount of water that fell.

Reports of businesses flooding have come in from all over the area and certain roads had to be closed off due to being waterlogged and unsafe. It’s estimated that over 50 millimetres of water fell per second in some parts, which caused the well-known River Seco (dry river) to flow like it hasn’t been seen in years.

Denia’s beachfront was

completely flooded as the sewers quickly burst as they couldn’t hold all the water and a church in Oli-va lost a portion of their roof as the gutters became clogged with broken tiles.

Some areas reported no electricity due to the sur-prising amount of rain and there are reports of cars breaking down all over as e n g i n e s f l o o d e d . A l though the Cos-ta Blanca suffered, it wasn’t as

bad as part of the north of Spain which saw streets and roads run like rivers and four residents at an OAP home drowned in Barcelona when the River Sio burst it’s banks. Spain is now currently suffering from the worst storms in two decades and many ar-eas remain on high alert for wind and rain.

and lunch went ahead last Sunday and af-ter a worrying start it turned out to be a good day.

Attendance was poor for the bike ride which takes you downhill through the beautiful Finestrat Countryside, however a young lad from Finestrat village Jayden saved the day by raising a massive 200 euros, and what a fantastic effort!

The charity lunch was held after the bike ride and was much better attended with around 80 people turning out in sup-port, they put on some great live entertain-ment, raffles and auctions to raise more money and a delicious meal at the Moli Dos restaurant in Finestrat village reach-

ing a total of 1,345 euros. After announc-ing the money raised the charity was then given 155 euros by a generous couple, Darren and Angie helping to round off the day with a grand total of 1,500 euros. Everyone had a great day and they hope to repeat this event next year.

Well Done Jayden

Faced After Google Translate Clitoris BlunderBy SPENCER WILLIAMS

Town hall staff blame Google Trans-late for a wait for it...veg-ina mix up.

In a hilairous mixup, Google Translate turned an annual celebration in Spain into something a bit too tantalizing when it changed the Galician word grelo into clito-ris, announcing the celebrations of Clitoris Festival!

As funny as a Clitoris Festival may sound, the town hall staff of As Pontes were embarrassed to learn of the error, which was discovered last Thursday.

As Pontes, is found in in Galicia, north-western Spain, celebrates its local “rapini” festival, which pays homage to the leafy green vegetable similar to spinach, which is the towns speciality.

Local organizers wanted to promote next year’s festival, w h i c h will take place

February 15, the town hall staff used on Google Translate to give them the Span-ish language translation of “Feria do grelo” (Rapini Festival in Galican) on the town’s website, Google translate recognized their Galician word grelo as Portuguese and translated into the Spanish clítoris - which is also the word for the vegetable as well archaic slang for clitoris.

“Since 1981, the festival has made the clitoris one of the star products of the local gastronomy,” read the blurb on the town’s official website, extolling the region’s gas-tronomic goods.

The official town website elaborated, “Since 1981, the festival has made the clitoris one of the star products of the lo-cal gastronomy.”... Sounds scrummy. The town hall are considering filing a complaint with Google to ask them to properly recog-nize Galician so the same thing wouldn’t happen again.

Rapini is a staple of Galician cuisine and is also used very often in Italian

and Portuguese cookingIt is a subspecies of

turnip and is the south-ern European equiv-alent of ‘turnip tops’ or ‘turnip greens’ and

in the US is known as broccoli raab or broccoli

rabe.

On 19th October 53 U3A Members left Jalón and the rain behind on their way to Salamanca, the first stop before reaching Portugal. After a 10 hour drive there was just enough time to walk into the old town before going to the hotel. Next morning they set of early for Porto stopping for lunch in the World Heritage medieval vil-lage of Guimaraes with its 10th century castle, home to the first king of Portugal. Situated on the banks of the Rió Due-ro and dating from the 13th century, the old centre of Porto is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Sadly due to lack of funds many lovely old buildings are literally fall-ing down. One of the few not in ruins is the beautifully tiled train station. The Duero is the oldest wine producing region in the world and Ramos Pinto’s bodega was the next, much anticipated, destination. The bodega is housed in a

lovely early 20th century building, full of hand-painted tiles, original posters and beautiful carved furniture. They were giv-en a chocolate to eat while tasting the red port. White port has only been produced since 1936 as, due to the civil war, the British could not obtain sherry. There were several more stops on their way to Lisbon including Nazaré, once a fishing village in a picturesque setting. Then next to Óbido, another UNESCO walled medieval village famous for its cheery liqueur, Ginja, which everyone sampled. Then finally to Lisbon in time for dinner at their hotel.Lisbon is a city of huge parks and majestic buildings. They had a couriered tour in the coach before walking around the oldest part of the city stopping at the Belem Tow-er and then the 16th century Jeronimo’s Monastery, which was impressive with

its soaring columns and stunning stained glass windows and where Vasco de Gama is buried. The next stop was the fishing re-sort of Cascais with its beautiful sandy bay and pretty architecture. Then back for a free day in Lisbon to see the castle with its fabulous view of the town, visit the ca-thedral, one of the numerous museums, or just stroll around the streets. Early next day, it was off to the walled city of To-ledo and by early evening they were settling into their hotel. The following day their guide, Carmen, gave them a fasci-nating insight into the history, myths and legends of Toledo as they walked up and down the cobbled old streets. Then, after a couple of hours’ free

time to further explore, it was time to start back for home. Thanks must go to Paco and Rolf, the Gandia Tours driver and guide, to Peter for keeping them amused, and to Sandra and Bob for their excellent organisation.

BURGLARY AT PP PARTY HEADQUARTERSby SPENCER WILLIAMS

Clubs & CharitiesU3A VALL DEL POP VISITS PORTUGAL

Last week the PP Party Headquarters in Alfas del Pi was burgled and when dis-covered the next morning, the staff imme-diately reported the crime to the Guardia Civil of Altea. The perpetrators had caused “considerable damage” and can be as-sumed that those involved were “looking for written documentation and computer-ized data.” Party representative released a statement to the press stating that the locks to access the office were broken and that there was damaged documents left inside.

“Everything has been left upside down and we can see those who have gained access were committed in the search

for documents which they have failed to reach. We have already received strong evidence of the perpetrators and is al-ready in the hands of the courts which in-cludes the details of five councillors who were elected at the polls last May,”

TRAM WORKS DELAYED DUE TO POLLUTION

The planned works on the tram section be-tween Altea and Calpe Tram stations (line 9 Be-nidorm-Denia), which started on October 13th, have now been post-poned due to pollution.

The government have said that the work will have to be delayed for a signif-icant period until a health risk assessment has been carried out. The work which was originally supposed to take 6 months is now ex-pected to take a lot longer. This is following complaints from residents around the track and the nearby Gar-ganes School and sports complex who have said the air is now “un-breathable”

The councillor for In-frastructure, Roque Ferrer has confirmed the delay and said, “The FGV has

suspended the works until the contractor can imple-ment corrective mecha-nisms to collect and filter the generated inert waste to minimise the effects”.

As reported in The Weekly Buzz, the tram has now broken it’s own record for it’s slow speed and the full length of the course can now take up to 4 hours to complete. During the works on the line, FGV have ar-ranged an alternative bus service between Altea and Calpe Tram stations, they have also updated the times and service changes on a new timetable for the section between Benidorm and Altea. PROTESTS PLANNED TO STOP RISING CRIME RATE

From Front PageThe group of both Eng-

lish and Spanish residents have said that the crime rate has gone up and something has to be done as they feel it’s affecting tourism.

There are more reports of extreme violence from heavy-handed bouncers in the English square to mug-gings of tourists during day light hours as well as larger

rings of prostitution in the area. The group of resi-dents have spoken on the National Spanish TV show Noticias TV and have now presented the council with their official protest paper-work to make it legal.

Benidorm is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the whole of Spain and is reporting more visitors than ever be-fore. Many are putting this

down to the popular ITV show of the same name and the lower prices of flights from the UK, but the increase in holidaymakers has brought an increase in crime and the residents have had enough

Karen Cowles is the wife of a Benidorm busi-ness owner and she first called for the protests and is amazed by the amount of people who have writ-ten to her, “I’ve been in-undated with messages of support from both English and Spanish, people just aren’t standing for this anymore”. She’s received help from the Observatorio Ciudadano Contra la Cor-ruptión who have helped her with the proceedings and she’s hoping the event will make the council no-tice what’s going on. “The police have no power to tackle the offences and of-ten lack compassion when talking to victims of crime” she added.

Following the mystery death of British man Antho-ny Abbott last week, resi-dents are calling for a bet-ter service from the police who should be cleaning up the streets and stopping the crimes, which are hap-pening blatantly in the built up areas. Although there are steps that the tour-ists can take by following

up with a denuncia (com-plaint), many do not know how to do this, so simply don’t report the incidents to the police, choosing in-stead to take to Facebook.

The popular group Brit-ish Benidorm has received pictures and descriptions of known muggers in the area in an attempt to warn other travellers heading to the seaside destination.

Another group was created called ‘Red Lion Pub in Benidorm Debbie nightmare’ (sic) which told of a young gentlemen’s trip to Benidorm and the heavy-handed actions taken against him from a bouncer in the aforemen-tioned pub which left him with multiple head injuries. Although the group has since been removed, many people online are calling for something to be done.

The group are look-ing for more help from both English and Spanish speakers to help the pro-test reach new heights. If you can help with banners or petitions, please visit the Facebook group ‘Benidorm Robberies, Muggings and Pea Men’ where you can find out more details of ex-actly what is needed. The protest is planned for 10 am outside the town hall on the 23rd November.

“When we honest-ly ask ourselves which persons in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing or not healing, but face with us the reality of our powerlessness. That is a person who cares”.

‘Stepping Stones’ meets once a month with a support team from the ‘Listeners’. For dates, venues and any

other enquiries, contact the dedicated ‘phone line 634 362 498.

This is an initiative from the ‘Listeners’ Registered Charity, which has dealt with a number of such challenges through it’s 24 hr Helpline, 965 99 66 78.

As with the Helpline, there is no necessity to reveal any personal details, and all conversations are conducted in an atmosphere of under-standing and agreed confi-dentiality.

Clubs & CharitiesALL CHANGE AT THEME PARKS

Following the success of the popular Halloween season in Benidorm, many of the local theme and water parks have now closed for their winter periods.

Whilst the popular water park Aqualan-dia closes once the official summer season ends, many of the others continue as they can cope with the colder weather. Howev-er as the number of thrill seeking tourists dwindle through the winter months, many close once we get to November.

Terra Mitica went all out with their Hal-loween decorations this year; there wasn’t a part of the park that wasn’t covered in cobwebs. They even opened the pyra-

mid located just outside the park for free, promising to scare everyone who entered, and they weren’t wrong.

Mundomar which features animals from all over the world put on a whole host of special spooky shows but has also joined the list of closed parks promising to reopen in March next year.

Whilst many of these parks do close, Terra Natura promises to remain open all year, probably because their animals don’t ever go on holiday! Keep your eyes peeled if you fancy any of these parks in the New Year as many offer early bird tickets as well as money off vouchers in the paper.

PRIMEMINISTER COMES TO TOWN!

The Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Ra-joy will be visiting Calpe on Saturday after-noon following a brief visit to Finestrat. Rajoy who represents the People’s Party (PP) will be heading to the historic centre in the town popular with tourists at around 2 pm. The party has announced that he will also be vis-iting the Association of Moors and Christians, which Calpe has just finished celebrating.

The town of Calpe mostly know for it’s gi-ant ‘Calpe Rock’ situated in sea is now ruled by the PP and has Cesar Sanchez as may-or who will be there to meet and great with the president. The town has been busy cel-

ebrating one of the biggest fiestas on their calendar, which documents the ancient fight that took place on the 22nd October 1744.

The Prime Minister’s official title (in Eng-lish) is ‘The Most Excellent Mariano Rajoy’ and he assumed office in Spain with the PP party on the 21st December 2011 following a landslide victory. Rajoy’s defence of bullfight-ing, which he claims is “a tradition and art form which is deeply rooted in Spanish his-tory” has caused a lot of controversy during his run, however you can expect to see the town decorated accordingly as Prime Minis-ters rarely make visits this far from the capital.

Cancer Care Donates 10,000€ To Jalon Valley Help

Cancer Care steps in to assist their colleagues in an-other charity. Unaware of the charity’s pending generosi-ty, volunteers from Jalon Valley Help were invited along to the Cancer Care Centre in Javea on Thurs-day 29th October to receive a cheque for ten thousand euros given by Cancer Care to support Jalon Valley Help’s efforts in providing care for the sick and terminally ill.

Just eighteen months ago, Jalon Val-ley Help opened the ‘Animo’ Respite Care room at Fontilles, since when they have been overwhelmed by the increasing needs of an ageing population. In that time Jalon Valley Help has accommodated over forty people, some recovering from major illness or surgery and others who are ter-minally ill.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of Cancer Care, Maggie Mckenzie told Help’s volunteers that they felt privileged to be of assistance. Having visited Fontilles earlier in the year and witnessed for themselves the work that was being undertaken, they

wanted to help in any way they could. In responding, Elaine Horton, President of Jalon Val-

ley Help, expressed the Charity’s sincere thanks for such

overwhelming generosity, and said that, “This donation is a real lifeline and will be ‘ring- fenced’ to providing care at Fontilles. We are dealing with more and more tragic

situations and l cannot tell you how grateful we are to you for your support. The people who use our facil-ity at Fontilles are unable to tell you for themselves how grateful they are for this service, but l see for myself just how much it is appreciated. On their behalf, therefore, l must say a huge thank you to all your members and vol-unteers for their efforts in raising this money and for your willingness to collab-orate with us. It is a prac-tical demonstration that to-gether we really can make a difference.”

Councillors & Consulate discuss how to improve support for expat Brits

Councillors for EU residents, many from towns with a high number of British and other non-Spanish nationals, today met officials from the British Consulate to discuss ways to offer greater support to British nationals. They looked at the ben-efits and issues that come from having a high number of British nationals living in their towns. All the councillors agreed that Brits are more likely to volunteer than their Spanish counterparts and as such are a really positive addition to where they live, although more still needs to be done to help them learn Spanish and encourage them to register on the padron.

The meeting at the Red Cross head-quarters in Alicante also gave councillors the chance to learn about a recently-signed collaboration agreement between the Brit-ish Embassy and Red Cross, which seeks to enable easier access to Red Cross ser-vices for English speakers and encourage volunteering within the British community. The Red Cross announced that an Eng-lish speaking email and phone number for

enquiries and contact will soon be up and running as part of this agreement.

Councillors said a priority for them was working closely with local charities and English speaking associations to help their residents. Many of them explained that they already do this, and those that didn’t committed to making contact with the ones in their area to work together and give them more support.

Sarah-Jane Morris, British Consul for the Alicante region, said:

“Getting the councillors together has been really beneficial. We have both looked at how to better support British nationals by working together, and learnt from each other and shared ideas. We want to ensure British nationals and Eng-lish speaking charities get the best possi-ble support from their town halls.”

The councillors represented the top ten towns in terms of British resident numbers in the Alicante consular district, as well as other smaller towns with a high percent-age of British nationals on the padron.

Laude Lady Elizabeth School in Javea is on the move. Following an announcement by the International School Partnership (ISP), there is go-ing to be a brand new school built in the ‘Javea hills’ and the plans have al-ready been submitted to the council.

The project will need an investment of 15 million euros from the ISP group and adds a new school to the 7 already ex-isting in Spain, which include locations in Cadiz, Marbella, Alicante and Madrid.

The exact plot is located near to the ‘Villes del Vent’ urbanization, just behind the golf course and the empty space was originally reserved for luxury homes. How-

ever following the low interest in that pro-ject, the landowners contacted the ISP to offer it to them. It is also reported that the Javea town hall discouraged the building of more houses as there are many still unoccupied in the area as reported in The Weekly Buzz last week.

The new school should reduce the amount of students at a nearby school in Benitachell, which is reporting to be at capacity for students. This new school will offer primary education for English and Spanish speaking students in the area. The site is around 60,000 square meters and it’s hoped that the new project will open for the 2016/2017 class.

RELOCATION OF JAVEA SCHOOL PLANNED

TOWN HALL SAY’S NO TO MORE MONTGO HOMES

A bid presented by the group ‘Huer-tos del Montgó’ (Montgo Gardens) to build 160 properties on the Montgo has been declined.

Javea town hall and the political party Compromís turned down the bid for the land which would see more homes con-structed on sectors 3 and 4 of the Montgo land however this land has been reserved for use of health care purposes only.

Planning Councillor Isabel Bolufer said that the planned project was declined as it “does not meet the sanitary-care” need-ed for the plots.

The decision to turn down the bid was backed by the local government, the PSPV and Compromís’ councilman

Vicente Colomer. They have decided that once all the documentation was reviewed, the correct use of the ground was not reached.

The plots which could have been used for 160 homes have been earmarked as needing to help the health care industries as well as aiding the quality of the soil around it.

This comes at an interesting time as although the Spanish housing market is reported to finally be on the rise after one of the worst depressions in history, there are still millions of homes unoccupied all over the Costa Blanca, and particularly in areas of Javea.

By SPENCER WILLIAMSFREE PARKING!

From Sunday November 1st, the Teulada town hall has giv-en the thumbs up for some free parking, although only on certain days. The new winter schedule has been announced for the con-trolled parking zones (the blue parking zones) in the municipality of Teulada in Moraira allowing re-duced times where you need to pay and even some days where you will not have to pay at all.

The new schedule will be in place until March 31st 2016, from Monday to Saturday. The new blue zone service will run from, 9.00 to 14.00 with the service on

Sundays staying the same which means in the afternoons, eve-nings and on holidays, parking will be free.

This reduction in paid times aims to improve mobility for res-idents of the town during the months where there are fewer tourists. Please be aware to dou-ble-check the service where you park as the service could be al-tered at anytime and some areas may not fall into Teulada-Moraira jurisdiction.

The Weekly Buzz Newspaper from the Buzz Media Group will soon be opening their second Expat Centre in the Costa Blanca. The concept is simple: a one-stop shop for the British residents in the north Costa Blanca! A very successful year with the first Expat Centre located in the indoor market in Benidorm has proven to be exactly what the readers of the Buzz Newspaper wanted. No hunting around for different services, the simple idea of talking to the experts on the Buzz team and their dedicated providers does it all.

After reading a recent article in another English newspaper only a few weeks ago, a well-known insur-ance company informed the public of the re-launch of their “expat services”. The article was written with the view of other businesses providing services that they may be unqualified to offer and to give advice. Although it’s easy to understand the concern of the writer, the article was a little biased. Fortunately the Buzz Media Group have been working hard to ensure that the same concerns are not in question, and the reasons are quite

simple. With the benefit of having the right con-tacts with The Weekly Buzz newspaper, the project to offer the expat community with expert advice was as easy as 1 - 2 – 3. How you might ask?

A one-stop shop with certified experts who offer the advice and services direct, not through any third party. Yes, it is as simple as that at The Buzz Expat Centre. The general public can meet directly with the experts either by pre-appointment or by dropping in to one of our regular open clinics. It sounds strange to say it’s a clinic but in exactly the same format

as attending the doctors at a health clinic, all you need to do is come along and meet one of the profession-als. No need to worry about going through a broker or having incorrect information and advice with The Buzz Expat Centre, as with us you get to deal directly with the business who have all been chosen as being one of the best in their field.

The Buzz Expat Centre is a business for busi-nesses that specialise in services for expats living in Spain. The aforementioned article also said, “It was a good idea and was ready and willing to help the expat community in selecting a good provider in the services”. “Help” is the wrong word in this context; our understanding is that it has to be a business, not a help service. The Buzz Expat Centre will offer the public the best professionals and the most reliable companies available on the Costa Blanca as well as the very best products and services that expats need. Finance, legal, property and insurance services are the most recog-nised as being a lottery as far as trust and profession-alism are concerned. The Buzz Media Groups have spent an enormous amount of time finding the correct professionals to be available at The Buzz Expat Cen-tres. Only the very best in their fields have been offered the opportunity to be a part of the centres.

Other services also include Internet, phone and TV have given many residents continued problems and headaches in the past with aftersales and service issues. Other home services available from The Buzz Expat Centre will include property services, construc-tion and home improvements. Now is the time to visit the new Buzz Expat Centre in Calpe, you can drop in any time from 10am to 2pm every weekday or pop into the Benidorm indoor market and visit the original Buzz Expat Centre.

MERCEDES-BENZ V-CLASS 2015

t may not look radically different, but the all-new Audi A4 is a huge improvement over its predecessor in every key area. It’s more economical, quieter, more spacious, better equipped and more luxurious than before, so much so that we think it’s better than its chief rivals – the BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Audi claims to have used the luxury A8 as a benchmark for refinement and it shows. Engine noise is near non-existent and even at motorway speeds there is barely any wind noise. The only sound that is really noticeable on the road is from the tyres, though this is still well-suppressed and is only an issue if larger wheel sizes are specified. The A4 is a very relaxed car to drive over long distances.

There is plenty of technology to make journeys easier, including active cruise control that will match the speed of the car in front, help maintain lane position and will even drive automatically in traffic

jams at low speeds. There’s also a range of safety technologies, such as automat-ic emergency braking, plus convenience tech like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to make in-car smartphone use safer.

The 150PS 2.0-litre TDI ultra manual is the best choice for many drivers thanks to 99g/km CO2 emissions. For a good blend of performance and economy the 190PS 2.0-litre TDI with seven-speed S Tronic automatic transmission is better, produc-ing just 103g/km with official economy of 72.4mpg.

For those who demand the best refine-ment and quality, the Audi A4 is hard to beat. It might not be quite as sharp to drive as the BMW 3 Series on a country road, but on motorways it’s quieter and more re-laxed, plus it is available with a huge range of technology. The efficient engines and low company car tax rates are the icing on the cake, making the A4 arguably the best small executive car on sale.

Food & DrinkFood & Drink

The newly refur-bished Four Sea-sons restaurant in Benidorm has a clean crisp décor and a large room that would comfortably seat over 70 people. The restaurant offers a mass of natural light with tall windows all of the way around. The glass-topped ta-bles are simple yet stylish with a small candle burning giv-ing the place a love-ly relaxed ambiance along with some gentle background music.

The drinks menu is on the table when you arrive and

it hosts a choice of nine cocktails, as well as an exten-sive range of modern wines. The list includes Pinot Gri-gio, Mateus Rose, Faustino as well as Sangria and Cava. If you want to complement the after dining experience, there is a choice of 12 delicious liquor coffees.

For the starters thee is a warm breadcrumb covered

chicken salad that came with a sweet chilli dip and a deep-fried Brie served with a raspberry coulis. The pres-entation of both dishes was amazing and the taste was as good. For the main course there was a Dutch fillet with a pepper sauce and home made chunky chips, although the steak and grill menu is very tempting. This includes a full range of steaks and the option to add the starter and desert for only 3€ each, which makes the option of a three course meal very reasonable indeed. The main menu meals include a very wide range of dishes that include traditional favourites such as Roast Beef with Yorkshire pudding, battered cod and much more.

The chips were big, crispy and very chunky, served as a side dish with the size of the bowl that took your breath away. This was the same as the bowl of mixed vegetables for one person, which is easily enough for two or more. Needless to say, you just can’t eat it all, as although it’s amazingly tasty, the portion sizes are fantastic.

The other maim chose was the medallions of pork; the tender meat pieces offered a rich flavour and were complimented by seasonal vegetables. Both of the meals can be described as well presented hearty food that of-fers extremely good value for money.

The Four Seasons restaurant was formerly Michael’s

Restaurant, a very popular, well-known eatery in Calle La Biga, in Old Town Benidorm. Easy to find The Four Sea-sons is located just off the Ruzafa by Hotel Mayna.

There really is something for everyone with exten-

sive menu choices, 3 Course Main Menu for 13.95€, a 3 Course Early Bird Menu for just 8.95€, a 4 Course Sun-day lunch menu for 9.95€ and a Steak and Grill Menu starting at just 8.95€. Your host John is offering what he is best known for: a high quality, value for money dining experience.

Why not go for the dinner and show package? You

can enjoy a wonderful meal at the Four Seasons Restau-rant followed by the amazing experience of the Rich Bitch Show located a few minutes away both for only 16€.

Fully refurbished and with extensive menu choices,

this is assured to be a must go venue. John has been in Benidorm for many years and has ran various successful restaurants in his time. This is his biggest venture yet, and his experience will shine through.

The 21-year-old superstar was asked to take part in two interviews live on air of the Spanish national radio station ‘Los 40 Principales’ in Ma-drid last week but walked out after only 7 min-utes on air. Justin is currently doing his promo-tional tour for his new single ‘Sorry’ but wasn’t happy with the questions he was asked as he was struggling to understand them. Rather than using a translator, the team of presenters decid-ed to try and translate the questions themselves for the American singer and it is apparent that it got a little lost in translation as his answers were staggered and forced. The presenters then asked to him to help “make a crazy video to break the internet” following the success of many of his music videos on YouTube to which Justin stood up but rather than following the pre-senter, walked out of the studio door and didn’t return.

The awkward interview was then immedi-ately put on YouTube and received many com-ments about how unprofessional the singer is being recently. On October 28th the star was performing his latest hits at an intimate gig in Oslo but a fan spilled a drink near to the front of the stage which Justin tried to clean up. Un-fortunately the fans wouldn’t stop grabbing the singer despite his pleas and he then walked off stage and didn’t return. Despite apologising via his Instagram later on, many fans are comment-ing on the stars attitude and his bad manners at many venues. He came to Spain to MTV Eu-rope Music Awards and won 5 out of the 6 that he was nominated for, but then didn’t improve his attitude on popular Wednesday TV show El Hormiguero (the ant) where he still looked uninterested. The star has a history of naughty

antics and since turning 21 is said to be late for many of his engagements, was seen urinating publicly, spitting on fans, and was recently ques-tioned by police following an 80 mph car chase in the states. Most recently however, Justin was photographed on a balcony whilst on holiday, completely naked causing the press to post the images online and in the national press.

Despite his bad attitude on the radio, many people commented that it was unprofessional of the presenters to try and speak to him them-selves and instead should have hired a translator so that the star could understand the questions better. This translation comes as another Spanish town is left red faced. Galicia situated in the Northwest of Spain re-cently celebrated there local cuisine with it’s annual festival and de-cided to rely on Google Translate for their Eng-

Despite officially announcing that there would be “no more television series of Star Trek in the foreseeable future” only a few months ago, an announce-ment this week has given the green light on a new series promising to boldly go where no man has gone before. Follow-ing the success of the two most recent Star Trek films starting Zachery Quin-to and Chris Pine, a whole new age of Trekkies have been so does the an-nouncement of a new series whet your

Alex Kurtzman who is a producer from the two most recent films has al-ready announced he’ll be an executive producer, which has caused excitement for many who like his work. The series will initially have a US release on the CBS television network and is being made by CBS studios international. “There is no better time to give Star Trek fans a new series than on the heels of the original

show’s 50th anniversary celebration,” said Da-vid Stapf, President of CBS Television Studios. It’s the first original se-ries made by CBS but currently shows old ep-isodes of Star Trek on their network. However Google trans-late didn’t recognise this as being a vegetable (there is no direct translation in English) so un-fortunately changed it to an intimate part of a ladies anatomy. The town hall is said to have taken the matter in good humour and promises to be more careful before translating documents again.

Mel C reckons London’s Hyde Park would be the perfect venue for a Spice Girls reunion concert.

She told the Daily Mirror: “We’ve talked about it, but we just haven’t got our act together. We’re a bit useless. But performing at Hyde Park would be amazing.”

The former Sporty Spice has set her sights on June’s British Summer Time Hyde Park, which this year hosted musicians including Taylor Swift, Kylie and The Who.

Mel said: “I went to see Taylor Swift there this year and it was so wonderful. It was a really good, fun gig. I think for the Spice Girls that would be appropri-ate. It’s a bit more friendly.”

The girls have until June to get it together, but Mel ruled out a possible reunion for the Brit awards in February – because it’s too soon.

She explained: “There’s definitely no chance we’ll get our act together by then. It’s a shame, actually. We need to stop procrastinating and get on with something.”

The 90s girl band broke up in 2000, but reunited for the Return of the Spice Girls tour in 2007-8. They also got together for a performance at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony.

PISCES

SCORPIO (Oct 24th-Nov 22nd)

Work and career matters are certainly going along the right path and you couldn’t be happier with how things are working out. Your love life and social life are equally as lively, so you should be a very happy bunny. Why is it that you’re not?

SAGITTARIUS (Nov 23rd-Dec 21st)

You’ve come to the realisation that you’re more than happy in your own skin now, and as a result, you’ll successfully manage to argue your corner very well and without anyone’s help. Don’t let others tell you what you’re capable of. How rude.

CAPRICORN (Dec 22nd-Jan 20th)

You’ve come to the realisation that you’re more than happy in your own skin now, and as a result, you’ll successfully manage to argue your corner very well and without anyone’s help. Don’t let others tell you what you’re capable of. How rude.

AQUARIUS (Jan 21st-Feb 19th)

Getting your own way certainly won’t be as hard as you think this week, as long as you keep a smile on your face and come over as confident to everyone you’re talking to. Don’t settle for compromises in work or love. Keep going for gold.

PISCES (Feb 20th-March 20th)

You’ve got a very short fuse these days, so it would be wise to count to ten before considering berating someone. They may not even have committed the sin you think they have, so think before you speak. Trust your intuition and take things slow.

TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)

Try to take some time out to attend to your own wants and needs this week, as if you keep doing things for others, even if they’re minor to you, you’ll never get a minute to sort your own issues out. Leave nothing to chance over work and money.

GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of logic flying around this week, so you’ll find yourself running on the spot to stand still a lot of the time. You’ll find most people hard to deal with, but use your powers of persuasion and all will work in your favour.

CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)

It would seem communication issue aren’t working out the way you’d envisaged as others seem to be getting the wrong end of the stick. Are you explaining yourself clearly? Go over situations again and tell others to ask questions as they require.

LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)

You’ll find yourself looking backwards as much as forwards this week, so work to find a happy medium where you can look to the past for learning from old mistakes, and to the future for going out on a limb or taking a chance. Live life dangerously.

VIRGO (August 24th-Sept 23rd)

All in all a good week where making the most of unexpected opportunities comes your way, and this gives you a confidence boost like no other. Support comes from unexpected quarters, emboldening you to stand up and speak out. Easy there Virgo.

LIBRA (Sept 24th-Oct 23rd)

As October draws to a close you’ll start to feel agitated and restless. You need something different to do on your agenda, and you need new people to do it with. Be willing to make more of an effort with intimate partners. Keep passion alive..

ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)

Although you’re most happy when your comfort and security are built on solid foundations, it’s more your personal life and confidence issues contained in it that you’ll tend to focus on more this week. Keep goals in sight and just do your best.ARIES

Health & FamilySUFFER FROM HEEL PAIN?

Heel pain is one of the most common problems that I see in the clinic and can be a very debilitating condition.

Probably the most common type of heel pain is Plantar Fasciitis or as it is sometimes known as Cal-caneal heel spur syndrome. Although heel spurs are often visible on X-ray this is not always diag-nostic as they are also often seen on the non symp-tomatic foot too, and diagnosis is usually on history and symp-toms. This condition is cha rac te r -ized by in-creased pain with the first steps in the morning or when stand-ing after a p r o l o n g e d period of sit-ting. It can be in one or both feet. There are many treat-ments available for this condition depending on the severity of the condition the length of time the indi-vidual has had the problem and level of activity, and can vary from stretching and strapping to orthotics and even night splints.

Achilles tendonitis is usually a sports injury or can be caused by over use or even foot ware. Pain is often worse on rising in the morning and exac-erbated by activity. Treatment, laser treatment is very effective here and stretching is important also altering foot ware can also help.

Hagland’s deformity or Pump bumps as they are sometimes known are boney lumps at the back of the heel on the outside. Caused by the foot rubbing on foot ware the body attempts to protect the area laying down more bone. Sometimes there is an as-sociated fluid filled sac called a bursa associated with this condition. The area can become inflamed and very sore in shoes. Treatment, controlling the motion of the foot, padding and laser work well, although surgical intervention is sometimes called for.

Bursa can also be a problem behind the Achilles tendon and in the fat pad of the heel. If these bur-sa become inflamed they can be painful on activi-ty. Once again laser can be very good here as can padding or an accommodating insole.

Sever’s disease is a heel condition only seen in children and adolescents, eight to about 16 years old and is quite common. Usually seen in very sporty individuals, pain is exacerbated by exercise and

often is only pres-ent when running or jumping. Often Sever’s coincides with a grown spurt as the leg bone grows and the Achilles ten-don pulls on the heel bone pulling the growth plate of the bone away and causing lo-calized avascu-lar necrosis with resultant pain on exercise. Orthot-ics and stretching

work very well here enabling the child recover fully and return to the sports they enjoy.

There are many conditions which cause heel pain from tumors, fractures to simple splits. I have just covered a few examples this month.

SHow to make sure your dog attains his ideal weight

and maintains a healthy weight for life.

1. Track your dog’s weightLosing weight can propel your dog toward better

health, but only if the weight is lost in a healthy, controlled manner. To make sure your dog is losing weight at a nor-mal pace, make sure to weigh your pet regularly, use a weight tracking chart to track your dog’s progress, and assess your dog’s body condition score regularly.

Most veterinarians’ offic-es have a scale availa-ble to use free of charge. If you

have a small dog you can use your own scale holding your dog and subtract-ing your weight.

2. Include healthy activity

When you feed Hill’s® Science Diet, Ideal Balance™ or Prescription Diet® dog food you know your dog

will be eating healthy.

However, your dog’s weight management program isn’t

complete without a healthy amount of physical activity. Whether it’s a game of fetch or a walk in the park, make sure your dog is getting the physical activity he needs to get and stay healthy.

3. Visit your veterinarian oftenMake frequent visits to your veterinarian to ensure

that your dog’s weight management program is go-ing smoothly. Your veterinarian knows your dog’s ideal weight, how fast he should be losing weight and which foods are best for each stage of the weight management plan.

4. Maintain an ideal weight for lifeYour dog’s weight management plan shouldn’t be

temporary. Once your dog has attained his ideal weight, switch to a simple weight maintenance plan that consists

of regular exercise and proper nutrition.

Your dog may gain or regain weight more easily than others. Breed, age, food selection, state of health and a variety of other factors can determine how quickly a dog gains weight, and what kind of nutrition he needs to help control it. If you think your dog might be in need of a weight management program, ask your veterinarian for advice.

ALFAZ FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE

by DAVID MORRIS - Press Offier

THE GRILL HOUSE ARE FRIED AT THE ROCKSTAR

Defending Champions “The Grill House” are still searching for their first win of the season as they fell victim to the Rock-star 7-3. It was Rockstars “Ismael Jimenez Fernandez & Daniel Cisneros Lopez” who did the damage winning both their singles matches and Daniel adding a doubles match to his points tally. The Rockstar were hungry, every point was high fived and the constant support of each other spurred them on in every rack. On the other side, the Grill House were down and out and could not get going at all. They were trail-ing 3-0 before Bobby Morris restored some pride with a win in the fourth singles match. But it was a tale of woe as each passing rack just slipped away, no luck & no good rolls, the pool gods had deserted them in their time of need.

Meanwhile, “The Ryan Express” just

keeps on going for the Tartan bar, Ryan Robinson, played 8 & won 8 is making a name for himself, and a target too. His scalp will be well sort after and a prize worth bragging about for the one who stops “The Ryan Express”. The Tartan bar is loaded with talent and they destroyed Serena’s with an awesome display 8-2. It keeps the Tartan Bar firmly at the top of the league with 27 points and condemns Serena’s bar to their first defeat of the season.

Both the London Bar teams are moving along nicely and sit 2nd & 3rd in the league after wins against the Stretford Jukebox & the Yorkshire Pride B team. It was The London bar B team who beat the Stretford Jukebox 7-3 while the A team took care of the Yorkshire Pride B 6-4 and now lie 3rd in the league with a game in hand. Tom King surrendered his unbeaten record to Danny

Shears but Nick McGrath & Andy Scoffham won both their singles to keep the London Bar A on track.

The Peppermill are having a rough time and just can’t find the right winning formula as Dave Barnicoat was the sole survivor of a 9-1 mauling at the Yorkshire Pride. It is their first season and captain “Eddie Kelly” will surely turn things around at the mill & it won’t be long before they are climbing up the ladder. With this win, the Yorkshire Pride A team have now leapfrogged their B team and sit 5th in the league with a game in hand.

All matches start at 9pm every Thurs-day, why not come along and join in the fun.

Steven Gerrard spent nearly 20 years at Liverpool before his move to the Los An-geles Galaxy during the summer. But could Gerrard make a quick return to Anfield?

According to The Independent, Gerrard could be set to return to Liverpool after talks with new club boss Jurgen Klopp.

The report says that Klopp and Gerrard have spoken several times since the Ger-man’s arrival in England about a month ago, with his intention being to bring Gerrard back to train with the club before he is due back in LA in the middle of January.

Gerrard, who is 35, didn’t appear un-comfortable with the Galaxy, scoring twice in 14 appearances. The team’s season was cut short early in the playoffs with a loss to the Seattle Sounders. But is there potential for a transfer back to Liverpool after a tough end to the season?

Probably not, if you are to believe MLS Comissioner Don Garber, who spoke last week about David Beckham’s various loans to AC Milan and PSG, which Garber said he was really upset about. So it’s easy to see that Garber doesn’t want the same with Ger-rard and will likely do what he can to prevent it.

But if you are Gerrard, don’t you want to end on better terms at Anfield? You may re-call his last couple seasons at the club didn’t end how he wanted. First, with the 2013-14 campaign, Liverpool stumbled late and lost out on the Premier League title to Manches-ter City by two points, with ‘The Slip’ against Chelsea serving as the dagger.

Wayne Rooney broke Manchester United’s goal drought against CSKA Moscow, but will it now

rain goals for the England captain?

Rory McIlroy’s preparations for this week’s WGC-HSBC Champions event in Shanghai have been heavily disrupted by a bout of food poisoning which has kept the world No 3 from the course.

McIlroy missed a promotional event on Tuesday and withdrew from Wednesday’s pro-am competition after being unable to practice on the range.

“I’m not feeling great to be honest,” McIlroy said. “I had something (to eat) a couple of nights ago and yesterday wasn’t good at all.

“I thought I would be better this morn-ing, but I had a piece of toast and a couple of bits of melon for breakfast and I came here and tried to hit some balls, but even just making a couple of swings my stomach was too sore.“I just need another day of rest and hopefully I will be better tomorrow and I can play.“I was up from about 1am to 4am last night. The night before it didn’t start until about 4am, so it hasn’t been great.”

McIlroy, who finished joint-sixth at the Turkish Airlines Open last week, has been given antibiotics and painkillers for the ab-dominal pain.

He is scheduled to begin his opening round at the $8.5m event at 2.45am UK time on Thursday alongside American duo Dus-tin Johnson and Rickie Fowler.

McIlroy, who has finished no worse than sixth in four appearances at the Sheshan Golf Club, leads Danny Willett, Shane Low-ry and Louis Oosthuizen in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings with only three tournaments remaining in the season.

Andros Townsend DisciplinedAndros Townsend has been dropped

by Tottenham in the wake of his row with a fitness coach.

The England winger was pictured arguing with Nathan Gardiner during a post-match warm-down after the Monday Night Football win over Aston Villa.

And Mauricio Pochettino says Townsend will not feature against Anderlecht on Thursday as pun-ishment for his breach of disci-pline.

“He did not train with the group and he is not available for selec-tion tomorrow,” the Spurs boss told his pre-match press confer-ence. “When you behave in the wrong way, obviously you need to pay.

“It’s my decision when he is available again. For me, discipline is very impor-tant. We have a very young squad and they can make mistakes, but when you cross the limit it’s important to stop that.

ARSENAL GUNNED DOWN

Arsenal’s Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread after they were blown away by Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

The Gunners came to Germany full of confidence and with history on their side having never lost at the Allianz Arena, but they were second-best throughout as Bayern showed that defeat at the Emirates Stadium a fortnight ago was the merest blip in their superb start to the season.

Robert Lewandowski put the hosts ahead early on as he sprung the rustiest of offside traps before a Thomas Muller brace as well as goals from David Alaba and substitute Arjen Robben did further damage - with Olivier Giroud scoring a scant consolation as Bayern ran out comprehensive winners.

This galling defeat is the third in four Group F games and Arsene Wenger’s side are now six points off second spot with just two games remaining.
