MS Walk – Wendi’s Story Wendi Tomson lives in Nelson. She was diagnosed

with MS in 2003 and in 2004 she had a big

are-up, whereshe went from running 5 kilometres to barely able to go ablock assisted by a cane. She could not manage buttons,her husband had to help her do her hair and she was prettyscared until the relapse passed. Relapses continued for heruntil about two years ago. Now she doesn’t remit. She has apermanent limp and her right hand doesn’t fully function.Wendi says, “I have not accepted this as my new realityyet and I am trying very hard to work my way out of this.”

Wendi has participated in the MS Walk since before shewas diagnosed. She used to jog the route, now her fam-

ily walks or runs on her behalf. Of the MS Walk she says“Every step really does matter and in the last decade Ihave watched closely as we really do get that much closerto a cure, but just as important – there are things beingaccomplished that help those of us living with this crazydisease enjoy a better standard of living. Coping ideas,support, nding balance and knowing you are not alone.”

West Kootenay TrafficTe West Kootenay Traffi c Services/Nelson IRSU have

seen an increase in excessive speed on the roadway. We allare enjoying the early spring and the roads are very cleanand clear, but this does not mean you should increaseyour speed. We still have wildlife, bicyclists, pedestriansand tourists using our roads.

In the last week, we have stopped and seized 13 vehicles forseven days for exceeding the posted speed limit by 40 km/hr. Tese speeds have occurred by drivers in the morningtravelling to work and in the early afernoon and evening.

If you are travelling in excess of 40 km/hr, you can becharged for excessive speed with a ne of $368 and points.If in excess of more than 60 km/hr, a ne of $483, pluspoints. In addition to the ne, your car will be seized forseven days (costing you storage and a tow bill). If your

excessive speed leads to a crash, your insurance depend-ng on circumstances can be compromised.

With the nice weather comes fast driving, and we are warn-ng the public to obey the speed laws. We are out there watch-ng and no tolerance will be allowed for excessive speed.
