    Sprouting Resolutions For AGreener You

Tis year skip the gym, the diets and the less-is-morerules and step into greener pastures. 2016 doesn’t haveto be about losing. Instead, gain an appreciation for theworld around you. Make this year’s resolution more astop-and-smell-the-roses promise to yourself.

It’s sometimes said that it takes just 21 days to turn abehaviour into a habit. With that in mind, the NatureConservancy of Canada has created a 21 day nature guideto help ease your way into a greener year, regardless ofwhen in the year you take on the challenge. Te guideincludes fun activities for all ages and degrees of greenthumbs and nature lovers to start whenever you’re readyto go green!

Here are some examples of the green themed activitiesto get you growing this year:

    • Plan your urban garden. Sure, snow may still be onthe ground where you live, but it’s never too early to startplanning for spring! Contact your local community gar-

    den to

nd out when you can book a plot, or use a chartor graph paper to plan your square foot garden so you’reready to go once it’s time to order seeds.

    • Subscribe to a nature podcast. Download a podcastapp on your smartphone and subscribe to a nature pod-cast to listen to on your commute. It’s a great way to learnabout a topic on the go with weekly episodes of showssuch as Living Planet and BirdNote.

    • Explore a neighbouring forest. Get outside and makeyour own eld guide this winter, complete with bark rub-bings and needles from your favourite trees. You may

even include pictures of press samples of diff erent speciesof fungi, lichens and shrubs. Tis guide can be used allyear round, adding new leaves when they sprout in thespring!

    • Add a green lter. Make your Instagram feed greenby sharing your best nature shots with a unique hashtagso you can grow an album of nature photos right in thesocial sphere.

    • Nature lunch walk. Escape from all the business andstress of life, even just for  ve minutes a day. Leave thedesk and head outside for a brisk walk afer lunch, beforeor afer work or during a break between classes. Gather agroup of friends to join your nature quest. Discover thechanges of season. Take notice of what trees, owers andlandscape are present on the walk.

Put down the calorie counters and pick up a naturebook, a eld guide or a pair of binoculars. Start this yearwith something great: an appreciation for nature.

For more information and activities, and to start your21 day nature adventure, visit www.natureconservancy.ca/21daychallenge.
