The Temescal Canyon Boys Water polo team faced the La Quinta Blackhawks

this Saturday at the Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine, and were defeated. Preventing them

again from winning the CIF Southern Section Division VI title.

Despite a promising start off the Titans lost 10-7. A defeat that no one can

blame directly as a fault of their own. The Blackhawks simply made better shots, and had a

stronger defense. Also the Titans were at a slight disadvantage without their star player

Devin Deckert, would had suffered a jaw injury earlier in the season.

Academic Decathlon, or

Aca-Deca, is the ten event studious

competition that rocks the nation

every year. Each year the

competition is based around a

theme, this year’s theme is Russia.

The ten events that

comprise the Aca-Deca competition

are art, economics, English, essay,

interview, mathematics, music,

science, social science, and speech (a

prepared and impromptu portion).

Election Results, for our school that isBy Crystal Morales

On November 6, while

many Americans were casting their

ballots, the students here at TCHS

were also being polled. All

throughout the day, a school wide

electronic mock election was held,

where students were asked to cast

the ballot for who they would vote.

Out of the 54.66% of

students that voted, Obama won

with 50%, Romney getting 34%, and

the third party candidates splitting

the rest.

What the buzz about?By Sofia Johnston

Busy bumbling bumble bees. As if

battling for an early spot in the cafeteria line

and finding a table wasn’t bad enough, now

there’s the lunch time battle with the bees.

Lately, Temescal has been finding themselves

bothered with more bees than usual.

The biggest concern among Titans

is getting stung, but just remember, bees don’t

want to sting people, because if they sting,

they will die. Stinging is a defense mechanism,

so don’t give them a reason to defend

themselves.

What the buzz about?By Sofia Johnston

Continued from frontpage|

To avoid getting stung follow these

steps:

1. Stay away from nests. Bees think of

their nests as their territory. They will

defend it at all costs.

2. Avoid cologne, perfume, or scented

soaps. The scent of these is known to

attract bees.

3. Don't wear bright colors outside. Bees

are attracted to bright colors.

4. When eating outside, make sure to

cover up all food and drinks. Fruits and

soft drinks will especially attract bees.

5. Wear long sleeves and pants when

going outside. This will help to avoid bee

stings on arms and legs.

6. Don’t sit next to the trash cans. Bees

love garbage.

7. Never swat at a bee. Doing this will

often make it very upset. If one does

land, don't panic. Just slowly brush it off

until it flies away.

In the

event it does sting,

do not try to pluck

out the stinger,

because that will

result in more

venom from the

stinger entering

the body. If this

happens at school,

go straight to the

nurse. If not, take

out an ID card or

bus pass and

scrape over the afflicted area to remove

the stinger. Clean the area with soap and

water, then apply ice to the area to blunt

the body’s allergic reaction.

AACEBy: Sarah Appleby

Athletic-Activities Council on

Ethics is a group of students who were

nominated to promote our school’s code

of ethics not only on campus but off as

well. We have always had an AACE club at

TCHS, but it has recently expanded its

goals thanks to our new advisor, Coach

Cullen.

Besides upholding a moral

code of behavior, AACE’s goal is to

increase the participation at all titan

athletic events. They are aiming to have a

“Blue Hole” at all sporting events, not just

football. Not only will this motivate our

players, but it will bring out our school

pride.

They started by giving out

candy to the first 50 kids that arrive, but

want to go on even further. AACE wants

to know what ideas you have to increase

turnout at sporting events. If you have

any ideas see the AACE advisor Coach

Cullen or the president Hailey McClain.

PACE wants you!By Crystal Morales

Become the PACE of change. New here

on campus is the Political Awareness and

Current Events, or PACE, club. Meetings

are every Friday in Mrs. Williams’ room

565, at 7 am.

As a new club, PACE strives to educate

the students on such issues as new

propositions and the presidential election.

According to club president, Senior

Arielle Tripp, “In politics a lot of decisions

are made that effect students…So I think

it’s important for students to wake up and

realize that if we do not protect our rights

then no one else will.”

On November 5th and 6th PACE put on a

“California Proposition Awareness Event”.

During which club members were out on

the Senior Quad answering questions

about the current propositions to go to

congress. “Most students attending TCHS,

especially underclassmen, are not as

aware as they should be”, said club

secretary, Senior Alicia Leigan.

With the presidential election looming,

the PACE club works towards expanding

their organization, hoping to reach more

students. “A lot of people are indifferent to

politics and think there are more

important things in life...” says Arielle. The

students need to learn to take over for

the next generation.

Costume ContestDisappointmentBy: Alyssa Casey

With TC’s recent approval to

dress up for Halloween, ASB decided to

throw a costume judging contest where

the quirkiest and craziest costumes

soared to stardom.

With all of the crazy outfits

seen that day, it should have been a

hilarious and memorable day. Quite

frankly, though, it was a sad

disappointment.

Don’t get it wrong, it can’t be

blamed on a single organization or

person. Truthfully, it was the lack in

school pride that really made for a

cheesy experience.

The second-lunch bell rang

and TC students trickled into the senior

quad. Many costumes were to be

observed. One was a cowboy riding an

ostrich. This is the creativity of our

wonderful students.

10 minute into lunch, ASB

shows up with their materials and the

contest begins. Disappointingly, only a

small handful of students participated.

Furthermore, most of the students in the

senior quad didn’t watch. Junior

Madeline Cowan says “[she] heard about

the costume contest from a friend, and

decided to go so that [she] could see

some of the interesting and creative

costumes from

the school.”

Never-the-less,

students still

immensely

enjoyed dressing

up after all their

hard efforts of

bringing in

reams of paper.

It’s just too bad

there wasn’t

more

participation involved in the costume

contest itself.

Election Results, for our school that isBy Crystal Morales

Continued from frontpage| This

experiment gave students, both of voting age and

under, the taste of real life voting. “I think that

the election will actually have a bigger impact

on your lives as students than all other groups

in our society” said Mr. Lovingood, one of the

teachers running the election.

To get the information about the

candidates out to the students, in the days

leading up to the election, posters were hung

around campus. These gave a synopsis of the

candidates’ stance on issues and what their basic

platforms were.

Featured Titan :Caylie TaylorBy: Sarah Appleby

Senior Caylie Taylor has the honor of

being this year’s first Featured Titan. She is very

involved in school, participating in many clubs

such as Academic Decathlon, Fellowship of the

Christian Athletes, as well as playing golf for the

TCHS varsity girls golf team. In support of her

twin brother, Connor, she attends all football

games.

Caylie is a special girl that takes all

her unique hobbies and eccentric moments and

embraces them. She likes to watch Disney

movies and make balloon animals, which is not

something that every person can claim to do.

Caylie is known around school for

her recognizably hilarious laugh and for the

back brace that she once had to wear for

scoliosis (both of which have become jokes

among her and her friends).

Curiously, Caylie’s favorite subject is

English but hopes to become and environmental

scientist. Caylie is a devote Christian who

“SuperSize Me”Fench Fry ExperimentBy: Marianna Fontana

French fries are a good-tasting food;

easy to find, cheap to get, and fast to eat.

Everyone likes them, even though they are bad

for us. But who realizes what the actual effects

of the french fries are on our body?

Concerning this, Mrs. Lofquist

wanted to demonstrate to her students why

Americans do wrong when they eat fast foods

too often. She is experimenting how long it

takes a portion of french fries to get moldy. Her

experiment is based on a video she watched

with her class called “SuperSize Me”.

In this movie about obesity and

health issues in the US, Morgan Spurlock tested

how much fast food Americans eat and how it

acts badly on them. So for 30 days in 2004 he

ate only food from McDonalds for each meal and

he only got the “SuperSize” whenever they

asked him.

As a result of his experiment,

Spurlock gained 24.5 pounds and his doctors

said he was really worried about his state of

health.

After the experiment, he decided to

conduct another experiment to see how long

these unhealthy food rests in our body. So, he

took different kinds of foods from McDonalds

and the same kinds from another random

restaurant and waited until they decomposed.

He noticed that after about one month all the

food decomposed but the french fries. And after

three months they still didn’t decompose

meaning there was absolutely no mold on them.

Mrs. Lofquist did the same thing in

her experiment, leaving a portion of McDonalds’

french fries in a box. The results weren’t what

was hoped for though. Mrs. Lofquist’s response

was, “It only took five days for our fries to go

moldy! His were at 12 weeks with no mold!

Maybe they have improved.”

College ofthe WeekBy: Kenzie

Koubeserian

University

of Southern California

is the college of the

week. The following

information is from

the 2011/2012 school

year:

-Undergraduates:

17,500

-Graduate: 20,500

-Total graduates: 38,000

-International students: 7,200.

USC has an excellent sports

program, with over 60 teams. In 2011 their

Men’s Soccer and Volleyball teams won

championships. Also their cheer and

stunt team won the Western National

Championships, and the tennis club won

the California state championships.

Requirements to get into USC

include: completing rigorous high school

curriculum including Math, English,

Foreign Language, Social Studies, Science

and Art courses; a high GPA; good SAT or

ACT scores; competitive AP exams scores;

extracurricular activities; and an essay.

More information about other

requirements can be found on

collegeboard.com.

A common question asked is,

“Why USC?” The Graduate Admission page

has a whole list of reasons. One of their

reasons is “It’s a high-achieving and

remarkably diverse 16,000-member

graduate student body—almost half the

entire USC student population. We enroll

more international students than any

other university in the United States.”

UC Applicant Tips andInformationBy: Alicia Leigan

On November 1, the

submission period officially opened for all

potential UC applicants. The deadline is

set for November 31 but it is

recommended that students avoid

submitting their applications at, or near

this deadline.

However, according to Mrs.

Williams, the senior English and AVID

teacher, submitting your application near

the beginning of the submission period

will not improve your chances of

acceptance, because the UC system does

not use rolling admissions.

As you fill out the application

you will need to refer to the following:

High-school transcripts, ACT and/or SAT

test scores, Annual income for 2011 and

2012 (which is optional unless you are

applying for a fee waiver), Social Security

number and your California Statewide

student ID which can be found on the

transcript.

Also, if you manage to make it

into the top 9 percent of California high

school graduates, you will be guaranteed a

spot in at least one of the UC campuses, if

space is available. For more information

College of the WeekBy: Kenzie Koubeserian

The college of the week is the

University of Oregon. Also known as UO, or

home of the ducks, this school is an

excellent place to learn. It is important to

focus during your 4 years of high school

because UO’s admission requirements are

specific.

The University of Oregon

website says the requirements are: strength

of academic course work, extracurricular

activities and community service, ability to

enhance the diversity of the university, and

academic potential.

According to collegedata.com,

these are some of UO’s 2011/2012 enrollment

and graduate numbers. The number of

undergraduates is 19,427. There are have

3,575 total graduates. The

total number of graduated

students for the school year

is 23,002. The amount of full

time students is 20,198.

There are 2,804 part time

students. 717 of their

students continued getting

an education after

graduating.

In addition to their

academic program, UO also has an excellent

sports program. As recorded on their sports

website, out of their 18 varsity teams, they

are most commonly known for their track

and football . UO’s main rivals are the

Oregon State Beavers and the Washington

Huskies.

Although it is costly, UO has a

helpful scholarship program. The first thing

you should do is apply for a financial aid

and scholarships. 70.6% of Oregon’s

freshman were accepted by using the

Financial aid and scholarships program.

What's the ASVABanyway?By: Sarah El-Mahmoud

On Wednesday, November 7 around

100 students took part in taking the

ASVAB test, which stands for Armed

Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It

was held in the theater, it composed of

eight parts, and it took about four hours

to complete.

The test is administered by the

United States military and it mainly

used for enlistment in the Armed Forces.

If you are someone interested in joining

the military and you did not take the

exam, don’t worry it is not required in

order to enlist.

If you took the ASVAB and you are

not interested in becoming part of the

military, this test can also be helpful to

you in terms of career exploration. On

January 23, when the results are

released, you will be able to see your

performance in verbal skills, math skills,

and science and technical skills.

The ASVAB is taken by sophomores,

juniors, and seniors so if you missed the

sign-ups this time, you may have an

opportunity to take it next year if you

are interested. The test does not require

any form of preparation and does not

cost anything.

Academic DecathlonBy: Brianne Harrison

Continued from frontpage/

The speech and interview events are the

only ones not based entirely around the

theme. The rest of the events are

specialized for the Russian theme this

year.

The competitive team is

comprised of nine members, divided into

three levels based upon the competitor’s

grade point average, GPA. The levels are

Varsity (0.0-2.99), Scholastic (3.0-3.7), and

Honors (3.75-4.0). The GPAs are unweighted

and only based on the academic courses

taken in the previous two years.

The competition held at the

county level occurs on the last Saturday in

January and the first Saturday in February.

The Temescal Canyon team is currently in

there study season and without scholastic

level competitors. If you are interested in

joining please see Mrs. Lofquist or come to

one of the meetings held on Thursdays

after 7th period in room 563.

How to study 101By: Arielle Tripp

With the growing importance

of high school grades and test scores on

college admissions, good study habits are

now more essential than ever. Students

today need to be able to read, listen, learn,

memorize, analyze, and regurgitate

information at the drop of a hat, if they

are to be able to compete in our modern

world of rapid changes and advancements.

But don’t worry; good study habits are not

some sort of super ability that only the

select are born with. With time anyone

can develop the skills necessary to

achieve a successful high school career.

In order to be effective at

studying you need to become skilled in

time management, self-discipline,

concentration, memorization, organization,

and effort. But most importantly you need

to have a desire to succeed.

Some advice is "to devote as

much time as you can to your studies and

try your best. Try to keep up with each

class and finish homework early whenever

possible. Also don't get discouraged if you

worked hard and got a low test score.

Doing well in school is not an over night

process and it takes time. Just do the best

you can and you'll do just fine" (Senior

Parth Patel).

Most importantly, find the

study regimen that works best for you. If

re-writing your notes, or singing

vocabulary words in the shower is the

only way you can memorize material, then

go for it. We're all different, so dig deep and

find what plan works for you. Though

remember, the effectiveness of your

studying depends on you. If you’re willing

to put in the time and effort, then you'll

reap forfeits.

their final games against Notre Dame. The

score was 16-2 with a victorious win at

the home game held at Temescal Canyon

High School’s own tennis courts.

The team made it to CIF in

second place. They have won every game

to date except to the relentless Elsinore

High School team who is currently in first

place in CIF.

Erin Mulcahy, a freshman who

is on Varsity, talked about her exposure so

far on the team. “It has been such a fun

year on Varsity, it’s so exciting to be apart

of a team, and I look up to the other

players as sisters.”

“Being on Varsity is a whole

different experience, coming from the JV

team.” Annie Lamas, a sophomore

team in the Sunbelt League.

The titans managed to get

their first of five touchdowns in the

first quarter, following it up with

another touchdown immediately after

the start of the second. The Panthers

managed to return the favor with 2:56

remaining on the clock.

The third quarter saw a

great deal of action, with the titans

struggling before scoring a

their own with 4:01 remaining.

The game ended with the

titans scoring another touchdown in

the fourth quarter with 8:34 on the

Lake Elsinore- “We were fortunate to

words Varsity Coach Andrews had to say

after the Titan vs. Lancer Boy’s water polo

game.

On November 1, 2012, the cross town

rivals met at the TCHS pools for a close

final game to end league. With a 9 to 8

lead, The Temescal Canyon Titans took the

lead to proclaim the undefeated league

champ title.

Members of the audience found athe

game “One of the most surprising.” TCHS

fans were nervous when the halftime

scores showed Lakeside with a 4 to 2

Not until the second half did the titans

start going in full force, scoring more

than triple the point in the first half.

They were not about to let this game be

Errors End Titans’ CIF runBy: Ana Velasco

LAKE ELSINORE- Temescal Canyon’s

victory ride came to an end on Friday November 16,

2012, when Fontana Kaiser took the Central Division

Quarterfinals from the Titans. Being one run short, a

14-10 loss called an end of the road for Temescal

Canyon’s varsity football team.

The Temescal Canyon Titan took the victory

over Paloma Valley with overtime to enter into the

playoffs and conquered the game against the Desert

Valley Champions Palm Springs, with a 21-3 win in the

first round of CIF.

The scoring all took place within the first

half of the game. The Titans received the ball at their

5-yard-line on the first play of the fourth quarter and

put together a 12-play drive. This only resulted in a

dropped pass by Junior Steven Busse, resulting in

Kaiser Ball.

The seniors played their hearts out, leaving

all they had on the field. Unfortunately simple errors

resulted in the missing run that would have advanced

the Titans to the semis.

“I’m really sad for our 19 seniors,” Sands

said. “They played great tonight, but it seemed like it

was some of the underclassmen who turned the ball

Nash was born in Johannesburg, South Africa

and raised in various areas of Canada. From an early

age, he excelled in many sports and activities including

chess.

Ironically, his main interest as a child was

soccer due to his father’s professional soccer career.

However, as he grew older he began to focus on making

it to the NBA. In 1999 he led the Canadian basketball

team to a second place finish, behind the US in the

Olympics.

Nash is a great offensive player that ranks

near the top of the league in assists and maintains a

high shooting percentage from everywhere on the court.

Additionally, his low turnover rate makes him virtually

impossible to stop when he has control of the ball.

The first waves of a tsunami hit the coast of

Hawaii after a powerful earthquake struck in Canada.

Parts of Hawaii were ordered to evacuate after a tsunami

warning went out.

Towards the end of October a 7.7 earthquake

hit off the west coast of Canada. The National Weather

Service issued a warning for coastal areas, including:

British Columbia, Southern Alaska, and Hawaii. While

British Columbia’s and Alaska’s warnings were cancelled,

Hawaii’s was turned into an advisory. At least

100,000 people were evacuated, and were ordered to move

to higher grounds. The warning caused citizens to stock

up on necessities at grocery stores and gas stations.

While tourists staying in beach side hotels, were moved

up to higher floor levels.

The largest wave was in the first 45 minutes of

the tsunami and only measured at five feet, only 2 feet

bigger than than the usual waves. No damage was

reported from the waves. The evacuation wasn’t necessary,

but it’s better to be safe than sorry..

Conflicts over foreign affairs, Social

Security, affordable health care, government funded

student grants, tax cuts and the growing national

deficit are issues that will make or break America in

the next decade to come. This November, as citizens

of the United States we are entrusted with the

decision to select a leader by popular vote who will

hopefully resolve these conflicts.

As high school students you might not be

able to take part in the real election, but this Tuesday

a Mock Election will be held at TCHS. Mr. Brust and

his history classes will be coordinating the election,

with help from Mrs. Strange and Mr. Lovingood. All

students can vote online, or at school if they have

internet access. Teachers also have the option of

taking their classes to vote in the library during

school.

The election results will be announced

during 3rd period after the pledge on Wednesday. It’s

purpose is to serve as a learning experience for

students. Through participation in the mock election

students will experience how a ‘real’ election works,

become familiar with political parties, and be

introduced to political propaganda, such as the pro

Obama posters that have been posted around the

school. Though the most valuable skill in

interpreting American politics is being able to

distinguish through all the lies and corruption which

candidate is truly the best, and then do your part to

vote for him or her. Remember: Don’t Boo. Vote.

Many Americans celebrate Halloween

each year by getting dressed up and going Trick-

or-Treating. This year was no different. Except to

kids who are “too old” to trick-or-treat.

Each year more and more kids stop

celebrating Halloween, saying they are too old for

this candy-collecting holiday. So, what age is really

too old for Halloween? We asked that question to

many different students here at Temescal Canyon,

and came up with mixed results.

One person stated that you are never

too old get free candy, while others think that you

should stop in middle school. Several people went

out on Wednesday and collected candy with

friends or family. When asked about it, they

answered that, “I don’t think that there is an age

limit, just try not to overdo it so you don’t look

weird”.

We asked multiple people how their

Halloween was, and most of them said that it was

boring because they stayed home. They believe

that Trick-or-treating is for little kids. One person

said that, “ I think that when you get older, you look

kind of like suspicious”.

If you enjoy getting dressed up and

eating free candy, then there is no reason to stop. It

doesn’t matter if you want to stay home or go out,

it’s really just up to you.

Sandy, the hurricane that hit the East Coast

during the last week has caused more than 100 deaths in

US and Canada in addition to the 69 reported in the

Caribbean. Moreover, Eqecat said Sandy may have caused

damages between $30 and $50 billion.

The hurricane started as a late-season

hurricane in the Caribbean before smashing ashore in the

United States with 80-mile-per-hour winds on Monday,

October 29th. It stretched from the Carolinas to

Connecticut and it was 10 times larger than any

hurricance in the US since 2002.

New York City was one of the biggest aims of

Sandy. On Friday the death toll rose to 41 and the damages,

problems to public transportation and electricity it has

created are awful. Additionally because of this big

calamity the famous New York Marathon has been

cancelled.

Besides many problems, the hurricane brought

cold and wet weather to the East Coast. Forecasters say

that another storm may be in the works for next weekend

and it would threaten to add to the misery of those still

dealing with the devastating aftermath of Hurricane

Sandy, which may have created problems worse than

Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

As the holidays are coming near, Apple’s

demand for an improved and upgraded iPhone is

increasing, especially with Google right around the corner

with their Android phones. As an attack for these

challenges, Apple created and perfected a new addition to

the iPhone family, which was released on September 28,

2012, the iPhone 5.

The new iPhone 5 is a newer and more

improved version of the iPhone 4S. It is made entirely of

glass and aluminum, and is the World’s Thinnest

Smartphone. In addition to being 18 percent thinner, the

iPhone 5 is 20 percent lighter, and has a 4 inch retina

display, so there is more space for apps on each page.

The iPhone 5 has more color saturation to the

world’s most advanced display, which is great for looking at

pictures. There is also a new integrated touch to go with

the ultra fast wireless. There is also better enhanced

audio in the improved speaker design and three

microphones on the front, back and the bottom.

There are many new features to go with the

iPhone 5. One of these features is called iSight, which

gives the camera a better low-light performance, a faster

photo capture, shared photo streams, panorama and

much more. With the iPhone 5, Face Time is much better

to use with face detection and a backside illumination, so

it is easier to see in the dark.

Probably one of the newest features of the

iPhone 5 is the charger, which was named Lighting.

Lightning has an improved durability and it is reversible,

so it is easier to use and there is no wrong way to plug it

in.

Apple created the iPhone 5 as not just a phone, but a

necessity of people’s lives. They not only attacked their

needs, but killed them off. The iPhone 5 is definitely one

of the best iPhones that Apple has ever created.

On Tuesday, the results came in for the next

president of the United States. As the numbers slowly

trickled in, America waited in anticipation to see what

the next four years of their life would be like.

We determine the new president by the

number of electoral votes they have. Whoever gets to

270 electoral votes wins. As our votes get counted (the

popular votes) those numbers go to our

representatives. California, for example, has 55. As

always, California votes democrat so that means that all

55 of those votes have to go to the democratic

candidate which, in this case, is Barack Obama.

In the beginning, just as the votes started to

roll in, Romney was in the lead with 19 electoral votes

to three. As the minutes ticked by, Romney continued

to stay in the lead of 49 to three.

Finally, Obama started racking in the points

so the new electoral score was 78 to 82 in Romney’s

favor. This trend continued; Obama gaining a few points

but Romney consistently staying ahead by a hair. The

score was 173 to 189 in Romney’s favor when the real

game changing states came into play.

In the next moment, the Electoral Votes

were 262 to 203 in Obama’s favor. What happened?

Well, most states are only worth 4-15 votes. However,

such states as California, Washington, and Hawaii have

some major point values and Obama got them all. At

this point, the game was over.

Both sides continued to gain points until

the time at which they called Obama’s presidency. The

votes were 303 to 206 with the popular vote at 61

million to 58 million in Obama’s favor.

Hurricane Sandy may have only been a

category two hurricane but it didn’t seem that way.

By Sunday places such as Virginia and Hampton

Road was out of power and that was only the very

beginning.

By Sunday late afternoon floodwater had

washed over roads all over Dewey and Bethany and

beaches all across New Jersey and Delaware. Paul

Dicristina with NY1 told CNN that “I’m expecting it to

be really bad” That was when the evacuations

began. There are many ways people have started

helping with the clean up that started on

Wednesday. For the American Red Cross and

Salvation Army this is most likely the biggest relief

effort since Hurricane Katrina Struck in 2005.

Some people are wondering where the

American Red Cross is getting their money to help

with the relief efforts that have been taken. The

initial response of the American Red Cross was paid

for out of an annual disaster giving program. Also

within five days they raised 117 million dollars in

donations and pledges for relief work in 10 different

states. As for the Salvation Army by phone and

internet alone they have raised $5 million. Still there

are more than 317,000 people that have registered

with the Federal Emergency Management Agency

for financial help.

It is still unknown how many people are

left homeless right now. We do know that there are

still 470,000 people without power. It has been 11

days since the storm hit. The American Red Cross

has served more than 3.2 million meals and has

deployed nearly every emergency response vehicle

in its fleet. They have 5,800 workers and volunteers

working all day and night. More than 110,000 shelter

stays along with other charities and government

agencies.

Bond Comes Backwith a bang tocelebrate 50 YearsBy: Hayden Gordon

Continued from front page|

This film is quite

possibly the best movie I have seen

in a long time, and most definitely

the best Bond film since at least

1995’s GoldenEye. I was skeptical to

see this film, after hearing about

the financial troubles MGM has had

recently, the possibility of this film

being shilled out was quite high.

When this film was announced

almost exactly a year ago, many

were curious as to where the series

would go. And after the trailer was

released, it certain stirred up a lot

of speculation about what the film

could be about.

I would be lying to say I

wasn’t slightly disappointed. After

seeing the trailer I had the

preconception that the film would

be about James Bond’s darker side

and him defending the crown after

numerous terrorist attacks. My

speculation was correct, but

unfortunately wasn’t as developed

as I would have liked to have seen

it. The plot is refreshingly different

than every other Bond film, but

still has quite a few of nostalgic

Bond clichés.

This film is definitely

worth seeing. Four and ½ vodka

martinis out of five.

‘‘Babel’’By: Alyssa Ennis

‘‘Suddenly, the low-key British

folk-rockers join Adele, Taylor Swift and

Lil Wayne on the ever-more-exciting list

of Artists Who Can Sell More Than Two

or Three Hundred Thousand Albums in

Their Debut Weeks,’’ Says Steve Knopper

from rollingstone.com.

‘‘Babel’’ is rated four and a

half stars out of five on ITunes and has

nearly 5000 reviews. At this moment its

the fifth top album on Itunes, which

kinda shows Mumford and Sons

progression as a band, with ‘‘Babel’’

being the biggest selling debut in 2012 in

the US.

As said on ITunes, ‘‘Written on

the road during two years’ worth of

touring, its songs are like novellas with

emotional development and dramatic

arcs.’’ ‘‘Babel’’ got released on September

25, 2012 and the songs started to get

written 18 months before.

‘‘Mumford and Sons have a

really unique sound, thats unlike any

other artist/ band in the business. Their

original sound is what makes them

great, what makes them stand out.’’ Says

Emily MacMurray. With their acoustic

guitar, banjo, and sometimes a kickdrum

they’ve worked them into making a new

sound, thats all their own.

California 37 byTrainBy Jewel Harris

“On the other side of a

street I knew, Stood a girl that

looked like you

I guess that's déjà vu, But I

thought this can't be true

'Cause you moved to west La, Or

New York or Santa Fe

Or wherever to get away from me”.

Lyrics of one of the most popular

songs in Train’s new album

California 37.

Scott Underwood the

drummer of Train says in five

words the album is “ old school,

deep, new, fun and danceable”.

Train’s new album is for sure self

styled. a very chirp collection. A

customers review on itunes says

“It’s great summer music”. Trains

seventh album released the

summer of 2012 has 11 songs. All 11

songs are very different in their

own way. 50 Ways To Say Goodbye

has a mariachi style to it and You

Can Finally Meet My Mom has a

wistful sound to it, similar to 2001

smash Drops of Jupiter. California

37 is definitely one of their best

and quite eccentric.

Taylor SwiftA Change of SoundBy: Alyssa Ennis

‘’I like that Taylor Swift is trying

out some new sounds on her album

because she’s really drifting away from

her initial country sound. It really shows

her growth as an artist.’’ says Sofia

Johnston.

Although being rated country

on itunes, most of the songs on her new

album ‘‘Red’’ have a pop vibe to them.

With songs ‘’I Knew You Were Trouble,’’

and ‘’We Are Never Ever Getting Back

Together,’’ Taylor Swift is really expanding

her music and proving to everybody that

country’s not the only genre she can sing.

As said on itunes,‘’It represents

her taste for vengeance, her hot-blooded

romantic streak, and the neon-lit pulse of

a dance floor.’‘ On itunes ‘‘Red’’ is rated

four out of five stars and has more than

twenty four thousand reviews.

‘’I like Taylor Swift’s new album

‘‘Red’’ because it shows her full potential

as an artist.’’ says Karolyn Gray. Not only

does most of Taylor Swift’s fans see her

potential as an artist but so does Big

Machine Records, LCC which is her record

label.

Where does Taylor Swift go

from here? Well only time and Taylor Swift

can tell, but let’s hope that she’ll continue

doing her pop tracks while still staying

true to her original sound as an artist, a

country artist.
