Letter from the President

Hello,

Welcome to 2014! We have another year upon us and that gives us a chance to start anew

and really move forward with our organizations. It’s time for us to turn over a new leaf

and demonstrate the values that we, as Greeks, represent.

The Vision for the Future

2014 will be a difficult year. As Greeks, we need to start making a marked effort to pro-

mote ourselves in a positive way to the campus and local communities. Through improved

philanthropic and service initiatives and improved marketing of those types of events, we

can start to make a bigger change to the perception of the Greek Community, and combat

many of the problems we faced this past year. We need to focus less on the types of

events and behaviours that promote the negative stereotypes that plague our reputation.

Let’s make 2014 the year that we realize, as a community, that our organizations can and

should be more than just a party. That we can make a large impact on our the communi-

ties that surround us by coming together and giving back through philanthropy and ser-

vice. Let’s make 2014 the year that people can say made the difference.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can find

me by email at [email protected], or by phone at (250) 793-5014.

Sincerely,

Christopher Young

Lambda Chi Alpha doing a Christmas set. Santa did not want to see this!

Philanthropy & Community Service This past holiday season, members of Delta Chi volunteered for the Festival of

Trees. Over the last 27 years, the Festival of Trees has raised $15.5 million for critically

important causes at the University of Alberta Hospital, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart

Institute and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic.

On September 22nd, the men of Pi Kappa Alpha threw their 2nd Annual Pike 3 on 3 Char-

Psi and Pi Beta Phi, the tournament was able to raise $425 towards the Stollery Children’s

Hospital Foundation.

Pi Beta Phi Speed Read happened again on November 25th, raising money for First

Book, an organization in Canada and the United States that donates books to under-

privileged children. Events included a speed reading competition, group improv storytell-

ing, a spelling bee, and a reading relay. Congratulations to Lambda Chi Alpha who won

this event.

Kappa Sigma hosted their signature annual event, Hair Butch, on November 18th. People

volunteered to have their hair put up for auction to the highest bidder. This event raised

over $2000 for Valour Place, a temporary home away from home for all Canadian Forces

members, Families of the Fallen, Veterans and RCMP along with their families who re-

quire medical treatment in Edmonton.
