Welcome to the third annual Summer Media Arts Festival which starts on Monday 2nd July and �nishes on Friday 13th July 2012.

A wide range of activities have been organized.

Your form teacher will let you know which activities you can be involved in.

Make sure that you put your name down with your form teacher and you might be picked- Good luck!

LUNCHTIME PERFORMANCES

Every lunchtime during the Festival, there will be performances around school. Watch out for the following……

- Filmed Dance pieces on the big screens in the Dining rooms every day.

- Flashmobs- Throughout the festival, Year 10 dance students and the Rainhill High Dance Company will be performing a variety of Dance �ashmobs during lunchtimes. We are keeping the locations a secret so watch out for a �ashmob coming to an area near you!

- Di�erent Live Music every day, including the Wind band, an Acoustic Concert and Rock Bands!

- Zumba returns on each Tuesday and Friday lunchtime during the Festival. Get ready to join in!

JAZZ DANCE WORKSHOP

MONDAY 2ND JULY 2012 Periods 1-2

What is it?

Jazz up and get ready to learn pieces from your favourite musical theatre perfor-mances. High kicks, leaps and �icks galore as you learn repertoire in musical theatre style. Get your jazz hands ready for this high energy workshop.

Who is it for?

Anybody in Years 7-10.

DANCE Company Tour

MONDAY 2ND-WEDNESDAY 4TH JULY 2012

For three days, the Dance Company will be on tour to local schools performing Dance works from this season’s repertoire.

MONDAY 2ND JULY 2012 PERIODS 1-5

What is it?

A full day art workshop creating an Art Installation for the Arts Theatre. Who is it for?

Anybody in Year 7.

An Art workshop in which you will create a large scale installation using patterns found within the environment.

Who is it for?

Anybody in Year 8.

TUESDAY 3RD JULY 2012

The Rainhill High Dance Department will be holding a full day dance workshop for any pupils in Years 4-6 from local primary schools. Workshops will cover a range of dance styles.

STENCIL ART WORKSHOP

TUESDAY 3RD JULY 2012 Periods 1-3

What is it?

An Art workshop in which you will create giant stencils and arrange them along the walls of the Art and Science departments.

Who is it for?

Anybody in Year 8.

THEATRE TRIP TO SEE “LEGALLY BLONDE.”

WEDNESDAY 4TH JULY 2012

What is it?

A trip to the Theatre to see the popular show, “Legally Blonde.”

Who is it for?

Anybody in Years 8 and 9 who has chosen to study GCSE Drama or BTEC Performing Arts next year.

How do I get involved?

See Miss Prior. Places are awarded on a “�rst come �rst served” basis.

MUSIC WORKSHOP WITH LOCAL BAND, “HARLEQUIN”

THURSDAY 5TH JULY Periods 1-3

What is it?

If you’re interested to �nd out what it is like to be in a band and you play an instru-ment, then sign up for this workshop. You will be able to make music with local band, “Harlequin” from Liverpool.

Who is it for?

Anybody in Years 7-10.

How many places are there?

PRIMARY BOYS DANCE DAY

FRIDAY 6TH JULY 2012

Street Dance Company, UCREW will be leading a full day workshop for 25 boys in Years 4-6 from local primary schools.

FRIDAY 6TH JULY 2012

Year 9 students who have opted for Visual arts subjects have the opportunity to go to Tatton Park to learn more about the courses they have opted for and to get to know their teachers.

DANCE INSTALLATIONS

FRIDAY 6TH JULY 2012.

Year 11 dancers will be performing live dance installations in two key community areas in St Helens. One group will perform a pop culture piece in Rainhill Park and the second group will perform a contemporary dance piece at “The Dream.”

ANIMATION WORKSHOP

FRIDAY 6TH JULY 2012. PERIODS 1-2

What is it?

A Media Studies workshop to create your own animated character using plasticine or lego and make a piece of animation using stop- motion techniques.

Who is it for?

Anybody in Years 7-9.

How many places are there?

20

How do I get involved?

Tell your form teacher to put your name down for this workshop. The names will be chosen at random. If you are selected, you will be told the week before the workshop. You must bring in your own lego toys.

What is it?

A challenging Contemporary Dance workshop. You will learn about dance techniques and practitioners and develop your knowledge and skills in Contemporary Dance and learn a unique piece of repertoire which you will perform as a completed dance piece.

Anybody in Year 10.

TRIP TO WARNER BROTHERS STUDIOS IN LONDON

WEDNESDAY 11TH JULY 2012.

What is it?

The Media Studies Department is running a trip to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in London for a behind the scenes tour of the “Harry Potter” �lm series. The tour will reveal some closely guarded secrets including facts about the special e�ects and animatronics that made these �lms so successful.

Who is it for?

Anybody in Years 10-12.

“RAINHILL’S GOT TALENT!” FRIDAY 13TH JULY.

What is it?

A Performing Arts talent show.

Who is it for?

Anybody in Years 7-10.

How do I get involved?

Tell your Head of House that you want to audition and prepare a piece for the audi-tion at lunchtime on 26th June.
