The Fairfield YMCA Youth Sports program is built on values, sportsmanship

and FUNdamentals. Check out our new age groupings and progressive

sports classes. Children will have fun while learning basic skill

development and game experience. Classes are taught by caring and

professional staff. Classes held in the Fairfield Y Gym.

Designed for the child who has never played basketball before or who is still

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Ninja Kids

Third Degree Black Belt Steven Florian offers

a complete martial arts program for children

concentrating on self defense through Korean

Tang Soo Do style. Learn self-discipline, self

confidence and build self esteem through the

unification of the mind, body and spirit of the

YMCA.

Ages 4-9

Day: Saturday, 9:00-9:45 am

Ages 9 and over

Day: Saturday: 10:15-11:15 am

Fee: $50 Y Member, $100 Community

Youth and Parent Cardio Orientation

This is a program for 10 and 11 year olds.

It consists of one (1) hour appointment with a

Personal Trainer. The trainer will teach the youth

how to safely and effectively use the

cardiovascular equipment only.

Upon completion the youth will be able to use the

cardio equipment when accompanied by an adult.

Note: Depending on the youth’s height they may

not safely fit on some of the equipment.

The trainer will determine this.

Fee: Free to Y Members only.

Youth and Parent Wellness

Orientation

Orientations designed for youth 12 and

13 years old with a parent and guardian.

A Personal Trainer will instruct participants

on how to safely and effectively use the

Cardio and Strength equipment.

Upon completion of the four sessions, the

youth will be allowed to use the cardio and

weight room when accompanied by the adult.

Fee: Free to Y members only.

Youth Wellness

Munchkin Triple Play

Age: 3-5 Year olds.

Participants will be challenged to learn quickly

as they explore basketball, floor hockey and

soccer which rotate bi-weekly.

Great class to help your child see which sports

they truly excel at!

Munchkin Soccer

Age: 3-5 Year olds

Small players focus on Soccer. Children will be

introduced to dribbling, passing and shooting

with games. Active parent participation.

Great after Kindergarten Splash!

Kindergarteners benefit from healthy foods and

active play and that is what Gym and Swim is all

about! Children will enjoy a healthy snack and an

hour of sports and games every week.

The Fairfield Y’s competitive swim team offers

instruction, training, and competition (in Y-USA

meets). Our season is September through March

and May through July. Potential team members

must be able to swim all four strokes.

Practice times vary by age and experience.

*L’il Lunchers

Ages: 2-5 years (drop off class)

*Children signed for Tumbling Twos and Ballet Slippers can sign up for

L’il Lunchers. Children will be picked from and dropped off to classes by staff.

Snack Pack is one hour of nurturing and nutrition. Lunch and snack time provides a

wonderful opportunity to encourage a healthy diet. Children must bring a bottle of water

with child’s first name clearly marked on the bottle. All foods should be ready to eat and

bite size for little hands.

Please include an ice pack in lunch box to keep items fresh.

Ages: 3-5 years

This class is designed to introduce various

forms of music, arm technique, foot

positioning and basic skills will be covered.

Ballet slippers required.

Monday, 1:15-2:00pm

*Tumbling Twos and Tunes

Age: 2-3 years (drop off class)

This introductory gym class is designed to

present twos with the opportunity to explore

and learn new concepts independently while

building relationships at their own pace. The

structured format of the class fosters a natural

quest for learning while increasing

confidence. A new instrument will be

introduced each week.

Day: Monday, 11:30 am-12:15 pm

Squeaky Sneakers and Jolly Jinglers

10-36 months of age (with Adult )

The basic fundamental concepts of over and

under, fast and slow will be introduced in this

semi-structured class. Exploration of the gym

and bouncing balls will enable children to

build gross motor skills and strengthen agili-

ty. Various musical instruments will be utilized

during the session. Parents are encouraged to

sing along, be silly and have fun with their child.

Animal Acrobatics

Ages: 4-6 years

An introduction to basic stretching and

tumbling skills inspire children to build self

confidence while enhancing coordination. Hop

like a frog, slither like a snake, balance on one

leg like a flamingo. A different animal skill will

be covered each week.

TEACHING PEOPLE TO SWIM

FOR OVER 150 YEARS Swim Lesson schedule is available online at www.fairfieldy.org

Swim Lesson Make-up Policy

At the Fairfield Y, we hope that each student will attend all classes within a session.

This provides them with the maximum opportunity to develop as a swimmer.

We understand that children get sick, makeup classes are offered for students who are sick on the day

of their class. Makeup classes are scheduled in advance, speak with the Aquatic Director,

Maureen Scinto by calling 203.255.2834 ext. 2318 or emailing [email protected].

We strive to provide individuals the

opportunity to enjoy the water in a

safe and fun environment.

Swimming is one of the most effective

tools in developing health,

self confidence and a sense of

achievement.

Our lessons are based upon student

centered learning with a focus on

developing the entire person.

Holiday 1/2 Day Swim School

Great way for your child to learn to swim or improve their stroke with two

lessons each day! Your child will swim, enjoy a snack, a craft and have lots

of fun! Swim School is 5 days, December 26-31. Time: 9:00 am-12:00 pm.

Fee: $225 Member, $275 Community

NEW!

Parent/Child Program (S.K.I.P.) (6-36 months)

Shrimp/Kipper: A Parent participation class for the child who can

control their head and sit and stand with or without support from

a parent/aid’s hand. Class will focus on safety, water adjustment,

songs and games to make the class fun for you and your child.

(6 months to 24 months)

Inia/Perch: A Parent participation class for the child who can

stand without support and can walk or jump with or without

support from parent/aid. This class is focused on safety, breath

and body control and becoming comfortable and relaxed in the

pool environment. (2-4 years)

Perch: The class focus is on fundamental swimming skills and

water safety. (36 months)

Preschool Program (P.E.R.S.) (3-5 years)

Pike: The beginner swimmer; children who are first being exposed

to water or have a concern of getting their face wet or being

submerged are best placed in this level. In these classes the

instructor will work with your child to gain comfort in the water

while working on basic swimming skills. 5 to1 ratio.

Eel: In this level, your child must be comfortable in the water

swimming five feet unassisted. They will jump in the water and

have no concerns of getting their face wet or submerging. The

instructor will work with your child to move from vertical swim

position to a horizontal swimming position. 5 to1 ratio.

Ray: At this level your child is able to swim independently and at

least 15 feet or 5 yards without flotation device. In this level we

will work to improve stroke form and endurance for both front

crawl and backstroke. 5 to1 ratio.

Starfish: The most advanced Preschool level, the Starfish is a

child who can swim 75 feet or 25 yards without assistance. Your

child will refine their primary strokes and begin to learn the skills

for more advanced swimming strokes. 5 to1 ratio.

Progressive Program (6-12 years)

Polliwog: The beginner swimmer; children who are first being

exposed to water or have a concern of getting their face wet or

being submerged are best placed at this level. In these classes the

instructor will work with your child to gain comfort in the water

while working on basic swimming skills. 7 to1 ratio.

Guppy: Children who have no concern of getting their face wet or

being submerged as well as can swim 75 feet or 25 yards without

assistance. Your child will refine their primary strokes and begin

to learn the skills for more advanced swimming strokes and

diving. 7 to 1 ratio.

Minnow: At this level your child must be able to dive, swim

50 yards on front and back without a flotation device with

refined rotary breathing. We will teach your child the

beginnings of sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary

backstroke as well as learn how to swim the dolphin kick.

9 to1ratio.

Fish: In this level your child must be able to dive, swim 75

yards on front and back without a flotation device with

refined rotary breathing using open turns. Your child will

finalize their competency for sidestroke, breaststroke and

elementary backstroke as well as learn how to swim the

butterfly. 9 to 1 ratio.

Flying Fish: Your child must be able to dive, swim front

crawl and backstroke for 100 yards, elementary backstroke

and side stroke 50 yards. We will finalize the butterfly as

well as begin to learn junior lifeguard skills. All strokes will

be refined to top performance. 9 to 1 ratio.

Shark: At most advanced level your child will swim all levels

proficiently with an ability to use both open and flip turns.

A successful 200IM (Individual Medley) can be completed in

top performance. In this final level we teach two retired

strokes in the Trudgen Crawl and Inverted breaststroke.

9 to1 ratio.

Teen/Adult lessons: Group instruction for beginners and

intermediate swimmers. Emphasis is on specific needs

rather than mass drills. For ages 12 and up.

Diving: (3 to 12 years old) 30 minute class devoted to

diving.

Special Kids: 30 minute classes for kids with special needs.

Private Classes: By appointment only. Must be 5

years of age and older. Private lessons are offered in

packages of1, 2 or 4 lessons. Each lesson is 30

minutes. For Y Members only.

My After School Home (M.A.S.H.)

Where can children meet other children, finish homework without a hassle, do arts and crafts and play

outdoors? How can parents have peace of mind that their children are in a safe, fun atmosphere that

models and teaches the YMCA four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility? In the

Fairfield YMCA M.A.S.H. program! After School care is provided for kindergarten through 5th grade for

Fairfield Public Elementary School students.

Transportation provided. Scheduled early dismissals are included.

State licensed. 1:10 staff/child ratio. M = YMCA MEMBER, C=Community Member.

NEW!! Kindergarten Early Dismissal

For parents who only need child care on Wednesdays, the Kindergarten early dismissal day.

Children are picked up at dismissal time and transported to the YMCA for a full

afternoon of MASH fun. Includes structured and free play, arts and crafts,

snack and board games.

Holland Hill: October through June fees: $105 Y Member, $115 Community/per month.

All other Fairfield Public Schools;

School Year Adventurers for 5th-7th Grade

An after school program designed to engage

students in 5th through 7th grades. Includes

help with effective time management for school

assignments, ongoing community outreach and

service, group games with relaxed competition

such as dodge ball, ultimate Frisbee, flag

football and others. Includes coaching and

participation in good health and wellness

choices. 5th graders in all Fairfield Public

Schools and 6th and 7th graders in Tomlinson

and Roger Ludlowe Middle Schools may

participate.

$10 one time registration fee required.

Another early dismissal day?!! The Fairfield Y

After School program has a solution. A one day

at a time option for students who need after

school care only on some of the 9 early

dismissal days. Children are picked up at their

school by the Y bus and transported back to the

Y for an afternoon of fun and games.
