Municipal jobs not for sale>> Con artist arrested for duping unsuspecting job seekers

IF you are currently job searchingand have come across any indi-vidual who claims to have con-
tacts with councillors or officials inthe KwaDukuza Municipality whowants you to pay them cash to se-cure work, beware!
TheKwaDukuzaMunicipality hasconfirmed that this is a scam.
Complaints have been receivedthat people are being approachedby unscrupulous criminals who askthem to pay cash or deposit moneyinto an account, in exchange for ajob through internal connections.
On Tuesday night last week, aLindelani woman, Hlengiwe Dube,was arrested by the KwaDukuzaCrime Prevention Unit after shepromised several people jobs at acost of R2000 each at the municipal-ity.
Nomusa Mhlongo, who is unem-ployed, was also taken for a ride andsaid the con-artist approached hersaying she was working withKwaDukuza councillor Pinky Mdlet-she and that the municipality needs20 people.
“Dube said they had already tak-en on 10 people. However, the jobcost R2 000 each. I paid her a depositof R1 000 on Christmas Eve (24 De-cember). Then on January 2, I gaveher R700. I was owing her R300.
“However, onTuesday afternoon Icontacted councillor Mdletshe aboutthe job and the payment. She wasshocked and approached me,” saidMhlongo.
Mdlesthe, after speaking to Mh-longo, contacted the KwaDukuzaCrime Prevention Unit.
The officers conducted a briefinvestigation and discovered thattwo other people from the area alsopaid the con artist money for jobs atthe municipality.
A trapwas then set by the officers.
The officers photocopied the serialnumbers of the R300 Mhlongo owedthe con-artist.
Mholongo and her friend thenproceeded to the con artist's homewith themarked R300 and handed it
for sale and the community is re-quested to follow the correct proce-dures when applying for a job.”Mthembu explained the process ofapplication.
“It should be noted that funded
and approved vacancies are adver-tised on municipal notice boards, aswell as being published in the localnewspapers and the municipalweb-site.
“An interview panel is appointed
and all applications received by thestipulated deadline date are consid-ered by the panel.”
He added: “The panel compiles ashortlist of applicants and inter-views, and where applicable, testsare conducted to select the success-ful candidate....”
“All incidents are currently underinvestigation and legal action willbe taken against the culprits.
“Members of the public are urgednot to give their hard-earnedmoneyto these people.”

A second victim Nonku-luleko Gumede, said she paidthe con artist a deposit of R1200 for a job at the municipal-ity in December and gave herR350 last week. Dube ap-peared in the KwaDukuzaMagistrate’s Court last weekand was released on bail.
The KwaDukuza SAPS ismaking an appeal to all thosewho have been ripped off tocontact them.

A HUMAN hand was reported to have been found ata property in Lagoon Drive, Salt Rock on Monday,but police did not find anything at the scene.
IPSS’s Frank Labidi said in an online report thathis control centre received the call at about 10am,asking for help as a domestic worker had allegedlyfound the hand in one of the tenant’s rooms.
“I personally attended the call and due to thefact that the premises was open, entered andsearched for the “hand”.
“Nothing suspicious was found and we decidedto call in SAPS due to the seriousness of the allega-tions,” he said.
About a three-hour search was conducted, whichincluded Umhlali SAPS staff, provincial staff andIPSS, with nothing being found.
Libidi said the witness - reportedly a 17-year-olddomestic worker - kept changing her story.
Umhlali SAPS station commander Colonel SimonBhekithemba Zondi said as nothing was found, nodocket was opened and the case is now closed.
“I was shocked... but after a thorough search,nothing was found,” he said.

N-FORCE Security officers ar-rested two chain-snatchersand recovered gold jewellery
from their possession on Thursdaylast week.
The thieves were passingthrough Mahatma Gandhi Street inthe KwaDukuza CBD on foot, push-ing abrand new tyre, when N-Forcedirector Nitesh Arjun, who was pa-trolling the area, noticed the suspi-cious men.
When he got closer to them, theduo abandoned the tyre and tried toflee, but they were arrested byArjun and his officers.
Investigations revealed the tyrewas stolen from an iLembe munici-pal bakkie which was parked in Ma-hatma Gandhi Street.

shoulder bag.“When we searched the bag, we
found gold jewellery, a pair of scis-sors and a blade.
“Several people who came to see
what was happening, said it wasthe same suspects who ripped theirgold chains from their necks.”
Anisha Baruth, who works in theCBD, said she recognised one of the
men who pulled the chain from herneck a few weeks ago in the MarketPlaza area.
Another woman, Sundry Goven-der, who had a chain ripped off herneck in Hulett Street, said she couldnot forget the suspect’s face becausewhen he pulled her chain, his handslipped.
“When he grabbed it again, I no-ticed his face,” she said.
The suspects were handed to theKwaDukuza SAPS with the recov-ered items.
They were charged for theft andpossession of stolen property.
Philmon Meyiwa of Umlazi andSandile Gumede of Maphumulo ap-peared in the KwaDukuza Magis-trate’s Court on Friday.
The men were remanded incustody pending further investiga-tions.

DESPITE recent massive roadinfrastructure rehabilitationacross KwaDukuza, potholes
are still rife.KwaDukuza, which once boasted
a good road network is now referredtoasthe‘townofpotholes’,ahopelesssituation that is getting worse witheach passing day.
Motorists are “fed -up” with thestate of roads and they are now call-ingon the relevant authorities to im-mediately take action and remedythe situation.
Drivers and pedestrians alikehave been complaining about thebad roads, saying they impact nega-tively on their financial resourcesas the potholes damage vehicles andspare-parts are expensive.
Several motorists complained oftheir tyres being punctured and rims
damaged.Vanilla Naidoo of Gledhow said
there are huge potholes on the Gled-how Mill Road.
“Four of my friends have told methat their tyres and rims were dam-aged because of the potholes. Thepotholes aregettingbiggeranddeep-er. Municipal vehicles, councillorsand municipal officials drive on theroads regularly but no one seems todo anything.
“We pay our rates but we are notgetting the required service deliv-ery,” said Naidoo.
Pedestrian Gary Naidoo, com-plained of “wicked drivers” splash-ing dirty water all over them, whichsettles in the huge potholes that “can
pass for small mining pits”.Motorists are frustrated that de-
spite parting with significant sumsof money to license their vehicles,obtaindriver’s licences and payoth-er road use charges, there is nothingto show for it.
The blame has been laid squarelyon the shoulders of the KwaDukuzaMunicipality who is responsible forthemaintenance of roads within thetown.
The ratepayers have accused themunicipality of not doing its job.
The road maintenance depart-mentadministration, whose respon-sibility it is to mobilise and disbursefunds for the purpose of road reha-bilitation, has equally been taken totask for failing to measure up.
Attempts to get comments fromtherelevant municipal officials wereunsuccessful at the time of going topress.

Tenyearsago we thought of conspirophileswho used to bleat about this sort of thing asparanoid nutters sitting in basements clad intinfoil- hats, drawing faeces-diagrams onwalls while hiding from electromagneticwaves and mind control experiments.
Today we see them on television answeringquestions about worldwide public-spying net-works.
As you will know, the granddaddy of allconspiracy theories is that of the New WorldOrder, which has moved into the mainstreammilieu as a quasi social goal for some and asource of worldwide fear for others.
The NWO has been adopted by religiousand secular conspirophiles alike and goessomething like this: The world is secretly con-trolled by a small corporate-affiliated elite thatbelong to secret societies such as the Illumi-nati, Bilderbergers, Skull & Bones, BohemianGrove and so on. Through these societies, theyplot world domination.
It’s a bit like ‘Pinky and the Brain’ withwell-dressed sociopaths thrown into the mix.
We are told that the elite (also more fre-quently known as the 1%) will achieve totalcontrol of the earth by setting up a one worldgovernment complete with army, monetarysystem, media and religion.
The uninformed masses (that would beyou and me - the 99%) will be relegated tothe status of cattle and have as our sole pur-pose obeisance to the elite.
This may sound like your current officeenvironment,but according to conspirophiles,a ‘totalitarian one-world state’ is where weare heading.
The conspirophiles say that mass surveil-lance and a clampdown on things like humanrights, freedom of expression and movement,the widening gap between the rich and poorand the erosion of the middle-class are soundindications that the NWO is knocking on ourdoorstep and will soon slither over the thresh-
old. Those who see a one world governmentas a positive thing are happy to use the termNew World Order devoid of nefarious conno-tations, seeing it rather as a necessary socialevolution that is a panacea to all of the globe’sman-made ills: Legislate the country and itspopulation and you control all of the stupidthings they do, like war, famine and environ-mental cock-ups.
Whatever your stance, we will agree thatthe world is being monitored on a scale neverbefore seen, thanks to massive steps in tech-nology and, many would say, greed.
Social media sites likeFacebookandTwitter- and smartphones - make it laughably easy toshare personal data and find personal dataand the whereabouts of almost anyone, any-where.
And that data can and is very often sold tomarketing companies, advertisers and evengovernments, without our knowledge or con-sent.
This makes it simple to track citizens atany time for reasons that can be decided by
those who are in positions of authority.The possibilities for paranoia here are end-
less, which is why many conspirophiles havefound solace in the Deep Web; mostly an en-crypted part of the internet not connected towhat we use, the Surface Web.
It is here that (for now) governments andlaw enforcement can be avoided. It is also fer-tile breeding ground for crime because it is sodifficult to penetrate.
But before we lock ourselves in our dooms-day-preppercaves, let’s remember that no oneknows how this tale of potential global woewill play out.
It could go either way, really. Or we couldsimply stay as we are, a little globe wheezingthrough a tired galaxy.
The conspirophiles will keep their tinfoilhats andprepper supplies handy ‘just incase’.
And the pro-world-government adherentswill remind us that as long as we accept thatwe are little fish in a very big pond, rife withnear-endless ripples, everything will be as se-cure as it has always been.
ALL eyes are on the class of 2013 at themoment - their achievements, pass ratesand reality.
The president has also decided tostrike while the iron is hot.
ANC leader Jacob Zuma and the rul-ing party’s election campaign is in fullswing.
This weekend, Zuma made a commit-ment to education and possibly addingtwo more years to the schooling career.
According to the president, the ANC isworking on implementing this in approxi-mately two years. Also, the president as-sures us that more emphasis will be placedon Grade R, more schools will be built andso on (election campaign speeches tend tofollow the same trends).
While most of the parties are in fullswing, providing some ‘entertainment’ tothe campaigning is once again the an-tics of Julius Malema and his party - theEconomic Freedom Front (EFF).
Malema, who is currently trying to winover the hearts and souls of the KZNcrowd, faced an angry crowd in Nkandlalast week and a small group at Umlazi thisweekend.
In true Malema style, the new partyleader decided to build a home for apoverty-stricken Nkandla resident, wholives less than five metres from Zuma’smulti-million homestead.
However, the locals greeted him withstones and jeers instead of open arms -KZN is a tough crowd.

Thebenefitsofhavingatertiaryqualificationare numerous, most significantly it increasesthe chance of employment.

emerge from schools within the town suchas Stanger Manor, Glenhills and StangerSecondary - semi-rural and rural schoolssuch as Groutville High and Baguni Sec-ondary in Doringkop showed their abilityby producing two top achievers.
Etete's Brilliant Dube beat the odds byachieving seven A’s in his National SeniorCertificate examinations.
His outstanding results will see him en-rol at the University of Cape Town to pur-sue a career in mechanical engineering.
Banguni's top matriculant also scoredseven distinctions and secured a spot as atop achiever.
The Weekly met with several high flyerswho had not already embarked on theirstudy journey last Friday to find out more
about their matric success and futureplans.
KwaDukuza's number one matriculant,Stanger Manor Secondary's AvreynaKistensamy said she is off to the Universityof Cape Town with her eight distinctionsto pursue a career in actuarial science.
“I want to make lots of money and trav-el and I believe having this dream is whatpushed me through high school and mat-ric. Well, that and the unwavering supportof my family, friends, teachers and tutors.”
Speaking about how she managed toscore eight distinctions, seven of whichwere over90percent,shesaid:“Consisten-cy and balance. I know a lot of people thinkall I did was bury myself in books and studyday and night, but I really didn't.
“Of course studying was my priorityover and above everything else, but I stillhung out with my friends and watchedmovies and all the stuff teenagers do, allin moderation. However, I won't deny I fol-lowed all the cliches: eat well, sleep welland all that. It works, really!”
Another Stanger Manor star KirthiRamdhanee, who scored seven A's, isheading to University of KwaZulu-Natal inpursuit of a career in chemical engineering.
Answering the question why chemicalengineering, Kirthi said: “I love chemistryand it really is as simple as that. I have apassion for it and I know I will be good atit so why not!”
Akshi Singh, another achiever fromStanger Manor, walked away with eight A'sand is heading to Stellenbosch Universityto study chemical engineering.
“I have a flair for chemistry too, just likeKirthi. In five years I want to have my awe-some job and start my awesome life. In 10years I want a house and car and loads ofsuccess.”
Her tip to the class of 2014: “Keep calm- stress will kill you. Get plenty of rest andkeep a balanced diet. I know it's very cliche,but Avreyna is right, it works. Prioritise, stayfocused and don't become complacentonce you are doing well.”

achieved six distinctions. He will head offto University of the Witswatersrand andhopes to emerge an aeronautical engineer.
“I find that this [field] is relatively un-explored and underdeveloped in this coun-try and I want to change that some how.”
Also from Glenhills, Muhammed AzharKallan will be using his six distinctions topursue a career as a neurologist.
“I want to help humanity and contrib-ute to the well being of the people of ourcountry and I don't see a better way thanmedicine. My granddad always told me, 'Asa student you are always under pressure toexcel at school. Every time you feel thepressure is too much, try to think about themoment when you achieve victory. If youalways live in that moment success will beyours.' I live by these words now and I al-ways will.”
Alvina Rajmoney from Stanger Sec-ondary see's herself as a qualified chemi-cal engineer in 10 years thanks to her sixA's. She will pursue this dream at the Uni-versity of KwaZulu-Natal.
“I also want to open an orphanage andprovide financial aid to my school's lunchclub. As a little girl I always wanted this andnow I am a step closer.”
Stanger Secondary’s Nirvana Sew-churan will let her six distinctions take herto a career in commerce through a businessmanagement qualification from UmfoloziFET College.
“I am an organised person, I have lead-ership skill and I want to be my own boss.Maybe I will even start my own business.”
Stanger Secondary's Robin Pillay, sixA's, will study electrical engineering at theUniversity of KwaZulu-Natal.
“I have always enjoyed fixing things. Ilike technology and I prefer practical workso this seems natural to me.”
While Robin is in no hurry to leave hishome town, he does hope to bring some-thing back. “This is my home, I want tomake it a better place to live so I don't planto leave but that isn't how life works.Things change all the time, let's see whatthe future has in store for me.”

winning the toss backfired after their rivalsposted a respectable 94/9 in their allotted 20-overs. L Mhlamana (31) and L Movean (25)were the top-scorers for Nkobongo.

SAFA Ilembe will host a level I coaching course-CAF B Li-cence for all coaches within the Ilembe District.
Phase one of the coaching course will take place from1 to 10 February. The coaching course will involve a theoreti-cal and practical session. The theory lessons will take placeinBallitoorSaltRock(venuetobeconfirmed)withtheprac-tical session scheduled for the Thembeni Sports Complex.
The level I coaching course is restricted to coaches whoare in possession of a SAFA introductory coaching certifi-cate.Allapplicantsmustsubmitatwo-pagecoachingactiv-ity report and proof of all coaching activities must be sub-mitted.
Aspiring coaches must submit a medical certificate (notolder than two weeks) verifying the applicant’s ability orstate of health to undergo the intensive practical sessions.
SAFA Ilembe president, Thulani Gumbi said: “There is adearth of level I coaches and aspiring coaches must takefull advantage of the free service offered by SAFA Ilembein the hope of securing a coaching contract with teams inthe SAFA Ilembe Regional League and Division II League.
“This is a stepping stone for individuals who are genuine-ly interested in becoming a full-time coach”.
