Stage 2 Home Learning Grid – WEEK 4 - Term 2 2020 Dear Parents and Carers of years 3 and 4 students, the work below covers week 4 of Term 2 in a grid-like structure. It covers all key learning areas (KLA) and reflects the work that students will be working on at school within their classrooms. It is a continuation of the current programs that teachers have been using, although adapted for student directed learning. We have given you guidance as to which lessons you might do on which days, but it is fine to mix it up and do different lessons on different days if it works better for you. Please work through it at your own pace. We advise that you use a lined A4 workbook should you not have access to a digital device with access to the internet. Stage 2 Home Learning Grid – WEEK 4 - Term 2 2020

Dear Parents and Carers of years 3 and 4 students, the work below covers week 4 of Term 2 in a grid-like structure. It covers all key learning

areas (KLA) and reflects the work that students will be working on at school within their classrooms. It is a continuation of the current

programs that teachers have been using, although adapted for student directed learning. We have given you guidance as to which lessons you

might do on which days, but it is fine to mix it up and do different lessons on different days if it works better for you. Please work through

it at your own pace. We advise that you use a lined A4 workbook should you not have access to a digital device with access to the internet.

Student check-ins – Students should check in with their teacher each day on OneNote on their student check-in page in their Collaboration

Folder. If students have a question about their learning, they can ask their teacher on OneNote. If students do not check-in within a few

days, school staff will call you at home to check on their ongoing learning.

Learning on OneNote - We love seeing our student's achievements and the work they are completing at home so we can offer feedback. We

encourage students to complete their work in their digital folders (the one that has their name on it) on their class OneNote daily. It makes

our day that extra special, knowing they are enjoying learning from home.

Remember - Log onto Reading Eggs using the details provided by your teacher and continue with your level or read some books and make up

some stories with your family. It is important to get up, move about and keep your mind and body healthy too! Take advantage of brain breaks

throughout the day. Most importantly take time out to enjoy each other’s company, the sunshine and your backyard.

MONDAY

Digital – What is POV (point of view) and what does it mean to you?

Watch the following read aloud for the text Florette by Anne Walker:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKcZqwOWP9s

In your digital folder on your class OneNote, write how you believe Mae is

feeling.

Non Digital – What is POV (point of view) and what does it mean to you? Put

yourself in the following scenario which is the same scenario as Mae:

Impromptu speech

presenting is an important

skill to have. You basically

need to ‘think on the spot’

about a topic that you feel is

important. Give a 1-minute

impromptu speech to your

family about the importance

of sustainability.

With first-person point of

view, the character is

telling the story. You will

see the words "I," "me,"

or "we" in first-person

point of view.

When writing in second-

person point of view, the

writer has the narrator

speaking to the reader.

The words "you," "your,"

You have moved to a new home in a new town, but love gardens. Your mum

has said you can make a garden in your new home, but your home is an

apartment and there is no space to put your garden. Everything seems so

strange and different. You miss your friends and long for gardening.

In your A4 workbook, write down how you would feel if you were faced with

the same situation.

this point of view.

Third-person point of

view has an external

narrator telling the story.

The words "he," "she,"

"it," or "they" are used in

this point of view.

TUESDAY

Digital – There are many issues that can affect environments today. Pollution,

habitat destruction from deforestation are to name a few. Using the following

template write information that you have found or know about one of the

issues that affect environments.

Topic: ___________________ --- What is the issue?

--- Write your big ideas about the topic

--- Include 3 different facts and write

about them. You can use subheadings

for each fact.

Conclusion --- In one sentence include a final sum-up

on the issue.

Non Digital - Complete the same activity as above in your A4 workbook.

Hold a spelling test with

yourself and a sibling (or

parent/carer). Get your

sibling/parent/carer to say

random words and try to

spell them on a piece of

paper, mini whiteboard etc.

See how many you get

correct. If you get any wrong,

try and find out where you

went wrong so the next time

you spell the same word you

will get it correct.

Play the following game with a partner. You only need a deck of cards, a

whiteboard marker & mini whiteboard OR a piece of paper, pencil & rubber.

Objective - Beat your opponent around the clock first.

How to Play - Shuffle the cards and draw a clock face on your paper or mini whiteboard with

the time drawn as 12:00.

many bouquets are left?

Play the game to see who can move the hands from 12:00 to 1:00 first.

The youngest player starts first and draws a card off the deck. The number on

the card tells the player how many minutes to move their clock. So if you draw a 6, the player draws their hand to show 12:06, and announces their new time.

The next player does the same, drawing and moving the hands on their own

clock.

If a player draws the following face cards, they earn the designated times.

Jack = 15 minutes

Queen = 20 minutes

King = 25 minutes

Ace = lose 30 minutes

Joker = lose a turn

If you've just started the game and a player draws an Ace (e.g. they have not moved past 12:30), they must move back to 12:00. Or if they have moved past 12:30, they must move back the full 30 minutes.

Page 10: Stage 2 Home Learning Grid WEEK 4 - Term 2 2020...Stage 2 Home Learning Grid – WEEK 4 - Term 2 2020 Dear Parents and Carers of years 3 and 4 students, the work below covers week

Today we will be exploring how different people can have different ways of thinking or looking at something. This is called a ‘perspective’. Look

at the image below:

Read the following scenario and answer the questions below it in your digital folder on your class OneNote or in your A4 workbook.

Scenario – Alyssa and Omar are building a castle of cardboard for a class project they’re working on. Omar is standing back, admiring their

castle, while Alyssa is madly cutting and pasting a dungeon together. The end-of-day bell rings.

“I think the castle looks great! We’re totally going to get an A!” Omar shouts as he starts to run off. “Gotta go!”

“What? Wait! We’re not done! Can’t you see I’m still working on it? Get back here!” calls Alyssa angrily.

Questions:

1. How would you describe Omar’s perspective on the project?

2. How would you describe Alyssa’s perspective on what just happened?

3. What could Omar do differently if he really thought about Alyssa’s perspective?

4. What could Alyssa do differently if she really thought about Omar’s perspective?

Light movements

Go into an open space, whether it is your backyard or a room and do some stretching to warm up your body. Experiment with light

movements by pretending you are a bird gently flapping its wings, being a butterfly, being the wind, being the leaves or the trees blowing in

the wind. Light movements glide and are smooth and calm.

Compare these light movements to our strong movements from last week. Light movements include fluttering hands, twitching heads, bouncy

jumps, lightly stepping and springing, circling, swaying, falling and floating. Light movements lack force.

Choose three light movements for example flutter, float and fall. Maybe play some music like this to help you:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFcSrYw-ARY . Explore and find the most appropriate body part, plan the location of the movements

(above, below, to the side, behind, across) and combine the movements into a sequence and perform the sequence twice.

Reflection: What other movements could have been chosen? What was a challenge when moving lightly?
