A virtual option to attend will also be available. For those attending in-person, a mask will be required. Make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast before coming to school. Testing schedules were sent home last week in your child’s Friday folder. Update – Student Morning Drop-off It has been so great welcoming back all of our students and families in the building to start the year! We also know that as we work to build developmentally appropriate skills and transitions that students have become comfortable with their new school or classroom and that is a great thing to celebrate. To help build their independence, we ask that next Friday October 1 st be the last day for parents or family members to walk their child/ren into school. BULLDOG 5k Event Page

All students in grades 3rd -6th are invited to participate in “Homework Club.” We provide a quiet place for students to start homework with the help of an SMM teacher. This year, Homework Club will meet most Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00 PM beginning October 4. The cost is $5/day for any student who is not registered for Extended Care that day. Registration deadline is October 1st.

Fall Food Truck Festival - Friday, October 15th

Celebrate the start of the new school year with your SMM friends! Save the date for our fall food truck festival on Friday, Oct. 15, from 6-9 p.m., in the SMM parking lot. Enjoy yummy food from local food trucks, beer and wine for purchase (adults only), and a DJ.

Tickets are $20 for the entire family, which includes two drink tickets. All proceed go towards SMM School’s HSA fundraising activities.

WALK AND BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY

St. Mary Magdalen School will be celebrating Walk and Bike to School Day on October 6th. Students and teachers are invited to walk and bike to school that day, if possible. If your student is in 2nd grade or lower, they MUST be accompanied by a parent in the morning per our Handbook. During morning carpool, students will check-in at the bike rack (in front of the pre-K) building and learn how to properly lock their bike. Students who are biking to school should do the following: Plan a safe route (we suggest crossing at the

Sharpley Rd. Light or the Florence Ave./Whitby Light)

After school we will be having a bike and walker blessing at dismissal at 2:45pm. St. Mary Magdalen students who have registered for the bike clinic rodeo following dismissal will have a chance to get changed and will be provided a snack.

Bike Rodeo Clinic – Register Online

We will be holding a Bike Rodeo on October 6, 2021 at 3:30pm, meeting on the rectory lawn. At the bike clinic, students will learn how to identify maintenance issues on their bike, bike safety skills, and participate in the skills course. All students in grades 1-8 can participate in the bike clinic afterschool on October 6th but advance registration is required & the cost is $5 per student. Students must bring a bike (without training wheels), a helmet and a bottle of water; a snack will be provided. Question, contact Melissa Pollio at [email protected]. The clinic should last 1 hour. Monday, October 4th at 2:15 pm on the rectory lawn. All family pets are welcome to attend. Carline will be opened earlier to accommodate parking needs. All families will be asked to sign out with your child’s homeroom teacher. If you are unable to have your pet here, students may bring in their favorite stuffed animal or a photo of their pet.

TUITION RATE REMINDER

Per the SMM Parish-School

Commitment form, families that receive the

parishioner tuition rate agree to “contribute a donation to

the offertory weekly - a minimum of $15 per week.” This

comes to $780 yearly or $65 monthly since some months

have more than 4 weeks. Please ensure you are meeting this

requirement to keep your tuition rate. To set up monthly

contributions online through our website visit

the form to change or start traditional automatic withdrawal

contributions on this page as well.

Help us keep that tradition going strong—start a new troop and we’ll support you along the way. DIOCESAN SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE SAKE OF GOD’S CHILDREN (FSGC) CLEARANCE Anyone volunteering in the coming school year for activities involving the youth of our parish and/or school must go through the FSGC Clearance procedure by completing a background clearance report, watching videos & submitting forms. Thank you to everyone who donated to our Fall Food Drive that ended 9/19/21. St. Mary Magdalen alone was able to raise a total of $3,437. We will combine our donations with those of Aldersgate and make out checks to various food pantries within the Wilmington area. Thank you for donating and helping our neighbors in need!

THE 70th ANNIVERSARY OF ST. MARY MAGDALEN PARISH This Sunday Sept. 26th at the 10:30 AM Mass we will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of SMM Parish! A previous RSVP is required to attend the reception following Mass. The Mass will be live streamed; link on the parish website

Save the Date:

The annual Trunk or Treat will take place on Sunday, October 31st from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. This year’s event will feature games, best decorated car and several costume contests. The Girl Scouts will be running a concession to raise funds for their Silver Award Project. Stay tuned for registration information.
