Dear Parishioners and Friends, Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers of our parish. May this be a grand and glorious

day for you and one filled with many blessings. Let us also remember our mothers who have already been called to their eternal reward. Let us not forget the loving care and support they gave to us in this life. May God reward them for all the good they accomplished in the care of their children. Our prayers also go out to all expectant mothers, especially those expecting their first child. May God bless them in the remaining days of anticipa-tion and preparation. We pray for good health both for mother and child. Let us remember, too, those would be mothers who made the choice of terminating their pregnancy. May God give them a spirit of remorse and may they one day know the love of their own child. Pray for an end to abortion and a profound respect for all human life. We should also remember our Blessed Mother who became the mother of all Christians through the words Jesus spoke from the cross to His beloved Apostle, John – “Behold your mother.” Her care and support surpasses even that of our own mother and she will always be our number one advocate as we ask her to intercede to her Son, Jesus, on our be-half. God bless, Msgr. Borcic

Knights of Columbus Pro-life Baby Shower

"Father Goldian's Crib"

In our Parish, after every Mass, we pray three Hail Mary’s for an end to abortion. This tradition was started by our own Father Edward Goldian S.J. In his memory, the Knights of Colum-bus Council # 453 and the Pro-life Committee and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association is spon-soring a “Knights of Columbus Pro-Life Baby Shower” being held on Mother’s Day for the benefit of Our Ladies Inn & Birthright.

Our Ladies Inn & Birthright are Pro-life, non-profit organizations that provide a positive and loving alter-native to abortion. These organizations have been providing counseling, spiritual support and material supplies to hundreds of families in the Metro St. Louis area for many years. The Knights’ primary goal with supporting the Pro-Life Shower is to spread awareness and education about the dignity of unborn children and the negative emotional and physical ef-fects that abortions have on women.

If you have an you questions contact Marisol Pfaff, 481-8408 or Joe Miklovic, 353-1062

On Saturday, June 9 there will be a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at which all who wish to receive the

Sacrament of the Sick will be anointed. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is an encounter with Jesus Christ, who brings healing of body and spirit to us as He did for the people He encountered as He walked the earth over 2000 years ago.

Anyone who has health issues, whether physical or emo-tional, may receive this Sacrament. Whether you choose to be anointed or not, you are most welcome to attend and pray for our sick, frail, or homebound brothers and sisters.

After the Mass, we will continue the celebration of heal-ing at a luncheon in the school hall. We hope that you will join us. To help us make adequate arrangements for the Mass and luncheon, please fill out the form below and return it to the rectory by Thursday, June 7. Save the Date... June 16, 2012 Family Comedy Night

Sponsored by The Knights of Columbus Council #453

Mother’s Day is a day obviously to celebrate motherhood. It is cele-brated in the USA on the second Sunday in the month of May. In the United Kingdom, the British observe a day to honor mothers in mid-Lent

called Mothering Sunday (that is usually celebrated in the month of March). It is also observed in India and many other English-speaking countries. The first known suggestion of Mother’s Day in the USA was by Julia Ward Howe in 1872. She suggested that people observe the day on June 2 as a day dedi-cated to peace. Other people also campaigned for a Mother’s Day. In 1908, Anna Jarvis called for a na-tionwide observance of Mother’s Day and chose the second Sunday in May and started the custom of wearing a carnation. The tradition goes that if a per-son wears a colored carnation, their mother is living. A white carnation signifies she is deceased. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a joint resolution of Congress recommending that we all observe Mother’s day the second Sunday of the month of May. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!! LET US PRAY FOR OUR DEAR MOTHER, WHETHER SHE BE ALIVE AND WELL WITH US HERE ON EARTH OR ALIVE AND WELL IN HEAVEN.

In your charity please remember St. Mary Magdalen Parish in your will.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

Each St. Vincent de Paul conference has a District President. We are part of the South district and upon receiving a copy of our first quarter report (published in the bulletin a few weeks ago), and the item about furnishing fish dinners to some of the less fortunate, our president commented on the won-derful support our Pastor, Associate, Parishioners and friends. He asked that his recognition and ap-preciation of the good work be passed along to all. God bless all of you.

who will make their First Communion at St. Mary Magdalen Church

today, May 13, 2012 at the 10:30am Mass.

God Bless you!

Happy Mother’s Day! In honor of our mother’s, SSYM will follow the usual schedule with 5:30 confessions and 6pm youth Mass but there will be no life night. This Sunday, we welcome

Fr. Jason Schumer from St. Ambrose as our cele-brant.

I have led many Luke 18’s in ten different parishes in the last fifteen years and I have never seen 8th graders open up like they did on the SSYM Luke 18 2012. This is evidence of the power of prayer. Countless people volunteered to make this happen, but your prayer is the reason lives were changed. Thank you for your role in this unforgettable week-end. I will have more quotes next week, but one kid said, “I have sat in religion class for 8 years and it never made a difference to me, but now I get it, and nothing matters more to me than God’s love. My life if forever changed (tears streaming)! Thank you so much!”

All graduating 8th graders are now welcome to join all SSYM high school functions. We meet every Wednesday night at 7pm for a peer led discussion night with plenty of snacks to share. Sunday night begins with 5:30 confessions, followed by 6pm youth Mass and 7:30 life night for a creative faith learning experience. Both Sunday and Wednesday events dismiss at 9:30pm.

Registration is open for the Steubenville Mid America conference this summer. SSYM is signed up for the powerful weekend of July 12-17. Regis-tration details are available through the youth office. All high school teens are welcome.

SSYM is sponsoring a great service opportunity called iThirst on June 23 at St. Mary Magdalen. This day will be filled with different service projects like assisting seniors with lawn and home care in our parishes, visits to hospitals/nursing homes, crisis nursery help, and many others. There will be fun games, food, music, and group activities to process this amazing day of giving. Sign up through the youth office.
