Ever since my arrival in Tyndall nine years ago, I have been engaged in a special project which is now nearing completion. Fr. Francis Cronin, who was pastor here for nearly twenty years, spent a great deal of time and energy securing many relics of saints. Among these relics, which all have documentation, are three very special ones. Because of this, I have been preparing for the public display of these relics in our daily Mass chapel. Roger Gregg of Yankton recently built and installed the display cabinet as a memorial to the Gravholt family (Bobbi Zimmermans relatives). We will be adding lighting to the display soon. A booklet describing each relic and the saint from whom the relic came is available to all members of the parish. Fr. Cronin made several trips to Rome and other holy sites during his time as St. Leos pastor. When he brought back each relic he would take time to show and explain each one to the congregation, but many people dont recall these presentations. The three very special relics are a fragment of the True Cross of Jesus, a bone fragment from St. Leo the Great, and a tiny fragment of the veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The relics of two Apostles, Peter and John, are embedded in the altar stone in front of the tabernacle in the high altar in the main church. We also have a relic of another Apostle, Andrew, Peters older brother. The tradition of securing relics and honoring them is as old as Christianity itself. During times of severe persecution, the only safe place to celebrated Mass was in a crypt or cemetery. A stone tomb was often used as the altar. Today we have altar stones containing relics of martyrs in them to remind us of those days of persecution. If you were to ask them to see their collection, the Benedictine Sisters at Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton have an entire room displaying dozens of relics. These also are all documented as authentic. This practice is to remind us that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses(Hebrews 12:1), those who have gone before us and wait for us in heaven. It is a practice meant to inspire us to imitate their faith and sacrifices. I pray that our small display will do just that in the years ahead. Father Joe Forcelle, pastor Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 28, 2020 You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation; announce the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Because of this, I have been preparing for the public display of these relics in our

daily Mass chapel. Roger Gregg of Yankton recently built and installed the display cabinet as a memorial to the Gravholt family (Bobbi Zimmerman’s relatives). We will be adding lighting to the display soon. A booklet describing each relic and the saint from whom the relic came is available to all members of the parish. Fr. Cronin made several trips to Rome and other holy sites during his time as St. Leo’s pastor. When he brought back each relic he would take time to show and explain each one to the congregation, but many people don’t recall these presentations. The three very special relics are a fragment of the True Cross of Jesus, a bone fragment from St. Leo the Great, and a tiny fragment of the veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Message of Harmony and Love In the wake of the current events ranging from the pandemic to the divide that is not only gripping our nation but our entire world at this time, Bishop DeGrood prays for us all with a message of harmony and love. www.sfcatholic.org. It's God's love that is going to help us find harmony where there is great disharmony and injustice, much like Jesus and His suffering and the great injustice He endured. God bless you all.

“Bishop’s Cup” Benefiting Broom Tree Retreat & Conference Center

Ready to get out of the house and enjoy the outdoors? Join us on August 24 for this year’s Bishop’s Cup golf tournament! This charity event for the benefit of Broom Tree Retreat and Conference Center is held on Sioux Falls’ two premier golf

Participants will have the opportunity to play in the Bishop’s Scramble or the Bishop’s Challenge with the overall low net in each category taking home the coveted crystal trophy for their parish! We sold out both courses 5 weeks early in both 2018 and 2019 so don’t wait to register! Our website, www.ccfesd.org, has all the information you need! We will continue to monitor and adhere to the advice given by health and government officials regarding social distancing and the coronavirus pandemic. Taste the Goodness Saturday August 29 – 5pm to 9pm

We are planning for a fabulous event to benefit the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House! We are hopeful that this event will go on, but as with all large gatherings, we know there is a chance it may not happen. However, our plan is still hold our popular mobile bidding silent auction no matter what! The Catholic Community Foundation is excited to announce that the 6th Annual “Taste the Goodness” event benefitting the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House will take place on August 29. We will continue to monitor and adhere to the advice of medical and government officials regarding the uncertainties of the Coronavirus pandemic, however, we are hopeful that this wonderful event can happen to support the important work of the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House. Now more than ever, the mission of the Dudley House needs our support. Be assured that adjustments will be made to ensure the safety of all involved. For on-going event updates or to purchase your ticket to Taste the Goodness, visit our website www.ccfesd.org or give our office a call at 605-988-3765.

Are You Going On Vacation? Many of our parish families are planning to get away for some summer fun and relaxation in the next few months. We pray that your vacation time will be safe and a source of many happy memories. However, please don’t take your parish offering with you. Each summer our parish office struggles to

juggle the bills as Sunday offerings decrease significantly. If you find that you tend to forget your envelope more often during the less structured weeks of summer, please consider our electronic giving program. Consider doing a bill payment out of your bank checking account to the church. You can do this weekly or monthly. It’s simple! It’s safe! And it keeps God at the top of your giving list even when you are away!

Words of Wisdom Retreat The world feels a little crazy these days, but in these uncertain times, we can rely on the certainty of God. He is a Father who keeps His promises, to us, today. Consider joining Dr. Chris Burgwald for a day long Words of Wisdom Retreat. The retreat is Saturday, July 25th, 9:00am to 4:00pm, at the Abbey of the Hills. Lunch is included, and recommended health guidelines will be followed. During Words of Wisdom participants will learn from master Scott by reading his book, A Father Who Keeps His Promises, and then gathering with people from around the diocese for a day of discussion and prayer to unpack the book. As noted Catholic author, professor and speaker, Hahn explores the covenant love God reveals to us in Scriptures and explains how God patiently reaches out to restore us into relationship with His divine family. You’ll discover how the patient love of the Father revealed in the Bible is the same persistent love He has for you today. To register, please go to www.sfcatholic.org/wow. With questions, please contact Dr. Chris’s assistant, Audrey, at [email protected] or 605-988-3748.

A Family Perspective By Bud Ozar

Today’s gospel challenges us to resist the individualism of our culture. Everything we are and have is pure gift which we are expected to share especially to the “lowly ones.” What has been freely given needs to be shared freely. No strings attached.
