HOLY THURSDAY FOOT WASHING “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you,” says the Lord. (Jn 13:14). The celebration of the rite of washing of feet at the Holy Thursday Liturgy is an un- derstandable way of accentuating the evangelical command of the Lord “who came to serve and not to be served, that all members of the Church must serve one another in love.” The washing of the feet has been a part of our Holy Thursday Liturgy for several years. Twelve people are needed, men or women, to take part in this meaningful ritual. If you would like to par- ticipate, please call Sharon Prince or Patty Gorman at 392-2710. THE ALTAR OF REPOSE After the Mass the Eucharist is placed in an Altar of Repose, and most churches are open for silent adoration, to answer Christ's invitation "Could you not, then, watch one hour with me?" (Matt 26:40) When the Eucharist is processed to the Altar of Repose after the Mass of the Lord's Supper, we remain in quiet prayer and adoration, keeping Christ company. There is a tradition, particu- larly in big cities with many parishes, to try and visit seven churches and their Altar of Repose during this evening. The faithful go there to venerate Jesus who was placed in a tomb following the crucifixion and in which he remained for some forty hours. Our St. Leo Altar of Repose (in the Divine Mercy Chapel) will remain open until 10:00 PM. You are welcome to spend time in prayer with our Lord.

Nomination forms are in the pews for the Al Bishop Steward of the Year award. This weekend is the last oppor-tunity to nominate someone you recognize as being a terrific St Leo steward. You can also nominate on our St Leo web-site!

The award will be presented at the Stewardship Dinner on Saturday, June 1. Plan on attending the dinner, it is a “thank you” for all who help at our Parish, not just the “Steward of the Year.”

LENTEN REFLECTIONS ON FORMED!

TRUSTING OR TESTING GOD?

As we grow up, the fears we faced as children don't van-ish. Instead, they come from different sources: fear of the future, of failure, of suffering. God offers himself as a refuge from all our fears. Do we trust him, or do we more often test his trustworthiness?

Go to FORMED.ORG, enter the code: RX7YDD and you can access many books, DVD’s movies for adults and children. St. Leo’s has a subscription, so it is free.

Let FORMED.ORG be part of your Lenten program.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

On the Sunday after Easter (April 28 this year) the entire Church is called to gather throughout the world to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. This 8th Octave Day of Easter is a day chosen by Christ as a day of extraordinary graces—a complete outpouring of His mercy upon all who approach Him with great trust and faith. We begin to prepare for our celebration of Easter and Divine Mercy Sunday by focusing on performing works of mercy, spending more time in pray-er, as well as doing penances and giving alms.

It is important to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Lent. Praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Novena to the Di-vine Mercy can be helpful preparation as well. It is not necessary to go to Confession on the day itself, but that Holy Communion must be received on that day (see Diary, 300, 699, 1109).

Confessions will be held on Saturday, April 13 and April 27 only from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. If those times do not work for you, check with neighboring Parishes for their Confession schedules.

Adoration and Eucharistic Exposition will be available after Mass with the Divine Mercy Chaplet being sung at 3:00 PM.

ED MARUGGI, ST. LEO AUTHOR, TO SPEAK AT GREECE LIBRARY

Saint Leo’s parishioner Ed Maruggi will be presenting his book, The American life of Joseph Biggio at the Greece Public Li-brary on Tuesday, 9 April at 7:00 PM. INTENTIONS OF THE HOLY FATHER FOR APRIL

For doctors and their humanitarian collaborators in war zones, who risk their lives to save the lives of others.

GOD OF HOPE, WE ENCOUNTER YOU IN THE WORKER Ona always knew she wanted to be a shining woman in her commu-

nity—and an example to her two daughters She studied hard and earned her teaching degree from a university. But in Gaza, jobs are hard to find.

Even though Ona had good grades, she could not find work as a teacher. “I started to feel hopeless,” she says. That’s why CRS matches workers with job opportunities. Through CRS, Ona applied for a teaching internship. She took the knowledge and confidence she gained from the internship—plus some of her income—and opened a tu-

toring center. Now she helps students of all ages with their studies. After only one month, Ona’s center has served 41 children. “CRS helped me start,” Ona says. “They gave me the chance. Now I will be able to contin-ue on my own.”

Share the Journey: Access to dignified work at a living wage al-lows people to remain with their families and build up their communities. That’s why they need support to begin. Your RICE BOWL alms help make this possible! *********************************************************** The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up. Laugh at yourself first, before anyone else can. Try to follow your own advice before you offer it to others.

SAINTS OF THE WEEK

St. Casilda of Toledo, Virgin April 9 Casilda, young daughter of the emir of Toledo, was brought up in the Muslim faith but out of pity secretly visited Christians in prison, bringing them food. When she fell ill of a disease no Arab doctor could cure, she visited the shrine of San Vincenzo in Burgos; cured by its famous healing waters, she converted to Christianity and lived as a hermit in a cell near the spring. Casilda died, perhaps at age 100, around 1050. She is usually depicted in regal dress, with roses hidden in her clothing. She is invoked against conjugal sterility and hemorrhages. Casilda is of Latin origin and is the feminine form of Cassius, the name of a Roman family. St. Terence, Martyr April 10 During the persecutions of Decius, around 250, Terence and thirty-nine companions at Carthage opposed the obligation to sacri-fice to the idols and to renounce Christ. Before the prefect Fortunantius, Terence is said to have held forth courageously, in the name of all, repeating words from the Gospels. As punishment, his companions were tortured and then beheaded one by one be-fore his eyes. The same fate was then his. His relics were later translated to Constantinople. He is depicted as a youth bearing a palm branch. Terence is from the ancient Sabine and means “delicate, tender.”
