The gully likely formed due to erosion at the outlet of a 6” PVC pipe that was connected to a catch basin installed at the end of South Prospect Street approximately 20 years ago. Erosion of steep sandy slopes accelerated until the Village DPW capped the outlet pipe in the catch basin in 2018. The upper portion of the slope is continuing to erode as the near vertical slope continues to adjust. Fitzgerald Environmental Associates has worked with CCNRCD and the Village to develop final designs to stabilize the gully erosion and to improve road drainage.

Bids must be clearly marked and emailed to: Kerry O’Brien, District Manager, Caledonia County Natural Resources Conservation District at: [email protected]

A mandatory pre-bid site visit is scheduled for June 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM. We will meet at the end of South Prospect Street and discuss details regarding the work. Following the pre-bid meeting, questions about the scope of work should be emailed to Joe Bartlett at [email protected] and Kerry O’Brien at [email protected] Background: The Caledonia County Natural Resources Conservation District (CCNRCD) and the Village of Lyndonville request bids from qualified contractors to assist with stabilization of a large gully located at the end of South Prospect Street, and for installation of grassed swales along the road to reduce runoff to the gully erosion site.

Page 2: South Prospect Street Gully Stabilization and Drainage

Details of the project are provided on the following pages and in the attached project drawings prepared by Fitzgerald Environmental Associates. Summary of Work: This project involves stabilization of a large gully erosion feature on a steep sand slope and drainage improvements along South Prospect Street to reduce surface runoff towards the erosion feature. The gully feature is approximately 80 feet south of the end of South Prospect Street. The drainage improvements are located along the edge of road, within the Village ROW, and do not require any modifications to the existing driveways. The contractor shall be responsible for removing a shed at the top of the slope (Bachand property). The selected Contractor will be responsible for all work shown on the attached drawings. The Contractor will be responsible for purchasing all materials specified on the attached plans. Generally, the selected Contractor will be responsible for:

• Purchasing all specified materials (root wads, anchors, coir logs, topsoil, plantings, seed, etc.) • Shed removal and disposal • Excavation and grading to reduce the slope of the gully, minimizing disturbance to adjacent vegetation

and slopes • Installation of root wad structures and coir logs to stabilize the slope • Installation of topsoil and plantings to reestablish vegetative cover on the slope • Cutting and capping the existing 6” plastic pipe projecting from the gully face (north end was capped in

2018) • Installation of grassed swales within Town ROW, approximately 260 linear feet total (no culverts) • The Village DPW will be responsible for locating and marking all utilities within the ROW • The Contractor will coordinate with CCNRCD and FEA to complete a final site walk-through, prior to

submitting final invoicing.

FEA will provide on-site construction supervision during the gully stabilization efforts.

The Village DPW will be responsible for improvements to the existing catch basin which is no longer connected to the pipe draining into the gully. The Village DPW will also be responsible for site restoration and final grading improvements for the grassed area between the top of the stabilized gully and South Prospect Street (as shown on plans).

Estimated quantities for excavation and select materials are provided below, Contractor is responsible for final quantities and additional materials as specified on the attached plans:

• Excavation – 140CY • Hauling – 140CY • Topsoil/Compost – 25CY • Coir Logs – 180LF • Shrub Plantings – 40 • Duckbill Anchors - 40

Attendance at the pre-bid site visit on Monday, June 14th at 10:00 AM is mandatory. Further details about the site work will be provided by CCNRCD and Fitzgerald Environmental Associates during a walk through
