The dancing candlelight went out with a faintly audible

snap, leaving the cellar captured in deep shadows and

thick darkness. With the light gone, Cross Rainey

became suddenly aware of how alone and defenseless he

was as he sat naked in the mystic circle.

The smell of brimstone began to penetrate the air,

carried by the lingering smoke of the now spent candle as

it seemed—he imagined—to drift between this world

and another place. The reality was he was not alone,

that wasn’t really the truth, or at least not the whole

truth. Something was coming. He summoned it and it

would not fail to answer his reckless invitation. If he

were clever and very, very lucky, it would not carry him

back to its torturous, infernal realm.

Demons, devils, pacts, quests, curses, revenge,

heroism and many other themes are common to

stories involving infernal powers. Join me as

Scaldcrow Games explores the infernal realms and

the monsters that inhabit them—monsters that

define evil itself.

This book is intended to be used with The Dark

Fantasy of Sundrah and other Scaldcrow Games

adventure products.

The warhorse strode into town with a confident gait,

head swaying back and forth as it casually fought the

reins and bit. It wore rigid leather with veteran mail and

tattered red and black trapping that billowed and

bounced with each resounding stride as it emerged from

beyond the town, beyond the light from whatever mad-

ness dwelled there. Its rider sat straight in the saddle,

posting up as he scanned the streets and alleys, occasion-

ally pausing to take in a long slow breath, searching for

something in the still, night air.

At once the great axe held at his right side became

engulfed in a white pulsating fire, its light radiating out-

ward and penetrating the deeper shadows behind him.

There in that darkness, elves adorned in worn battle-

bathed armor scattered out to the left and right side of

the street. They drew blades and bows as they took cover

to support the rider. Whispered incantations wound out

of the shadows, quickly disappearing as elusive as

smoke. Their spells were being bolstered in place. The

rider, supported by his elven company, turned and looked

toward the scribner’s window, locking eyes with the man

that peered back from its dark corner.

Cross Rainey shuddered and dropped beneath the

window, clutching his robe to his chest for security. It was

too late, he had been seen. The Holy Reckoner was com-

ing and a company of Black Witches trailed behind

him.

In a world where evil abounds, there are heroes,

villains, and professions that spring forth to face

challenges in the riptide between good and evil.
