Consider Sharing Your Faith With the Children of the Parish

Pope Francis reminds us that children are the greatest blessing that God has given us. We have a wonderful group of dedicated Catechists who take their time each week to teach our beautiful Catholic Faith to the children of the Parish.

At this time I would like to ask you to prayerfully consider joining this dedicated group. We currently have openings for Catechists in our Sunday morning and Monday afternoon sessions as follows: Sunday 10:20am-11:35am session for 1st, 5th & 7th grades Monday 4:30pm-5:45pm session for 1st, 3rd, 4th & 5th grades. You don’t have to teach alone, you can team up with a friend or neighbor and co-teach a class.

Please feel free to contact me anytime to discuss this rewarding ministry! Many Blessings for a safe, healthy and joy filled summer!

Your Sister In Christ, Pam Crozier [email protected] 914-232-1426

THINKING ABOUT BECOMING CATHOLIC?

YOU ARE CATHOLIC BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED YOUR FIRST COMMUNION OR CONFIRMATION?

WHY NOT LOOK INTO ST. JOSEPH’S RCIA PROGRAM? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

The RCIA is the process by which the Catholic Church directs and supports the way of faith and conversion by which adults (and children who have reached the age of rea-son) are initiated into the Catholic Church.

The RCIA is for those who are not Catholic and who desire to be baptized, receive first Holy Communion and Confirmation.

The RCIA is also for those non- Catholics who were baptized into other Christian Communities and now desire to be brought into the Catholic Faith.

The RCIA is also for those Catholics who desire the Sacrament of Confirmation and seek to be fully initiated into the life of the Church.

Classes are usually offered in the early fall and is completed on Holy Saturday at the Easter Vigil. If you have any questions about the process please contact Fr. Lagiovane at the Parish Office- 914- 232- 2910 or Email: jlagiovane @ gmail.com

THE NEXT RCIA PROGRAM BEGINS IN THE FALL OF 2019.

Dear Father Lagiovane and the Parishioners of St. Joseph’s,

Faith and I would like to thank you for your inspiring generosity and prayers for the Capuchin Appalachian Mission (CAM) trip to Kentucky with the Capuchin Youth and Family Ministries (CYFM)! We had an outstanding trip and were able to bring God’s love to the people of Harlan in many different ways.

Faith was part of the Outreach ministry that brought clothing and supplies donated by people here to the people of Harlan. At one stop, the community expressed that their immediate need was food. Many of the people were recently laid off from work in the coal industry and were struggling to feed their families. The Outreach ministry was able to adjust their plans and come back a few days later to provide a lunch for all the families.

I led a manual group that worked on two sites. At the first site, we replaced a rotting deck with a new one that included safety rails so that Kathy could get in and out of her home safely. Our second site was an abandoned home that was being renovated to be used as transitional housing for homeless teenagers. We replaced 5 windows, removed some sections of the walls that were rotting, framed out the new walls and put vinyl siding on the exterior. We also cleaned up the interior of the house. We met the leaders of a group from the Chicago area that will be continuing our work by rewiring the house and repairing the interior. The transformation of the house from when we arrived was significant! We hope and pray that it will provide a shelter for many of the homeless children of Harlan.

The Vacation Bible School served about 30 children and the Senior Ministry visited with the elderly in a nursing home. Each day we had time for mass, prayer, theological reflection and were inspired by the stories shared from each of the ministries.

St. Joseph’s and our family and friends raised over $6,750 for this trip. Your generosity each year encourages me to return to CAM. We hope that other teens and adults of our parish will join CAM next year! Yours in Christ, Zbynek and Faith Gold
