  • 2. Greece Geography
    • Greece is located on a peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea
    • It is almost completely surrounded by water
    • The large island at the bottom of the map is the island of Crete

    • Much of Greece contains mountains, rocky terrain and valleys (80 % is mountainous)
    • In the ancient world, Greeks made a living from the sea becoming fishers, sailors and traders
    • Due to the terrain, mountains and seas divided ancient Greeks from one another which caused Greek communities to grow very independent

    • Rome is the capital in the center of the European country Italy
    • Italy is a peninsula that extends into the Mediterranean Sea and looks like a boot
    • The large island to the south of Italy is Sicily
  • 5. Rome Geography
    • The terrain in Italy is combination of mountains and flat plains (very similar to Greece)
    • The large mountain range, the Alps, exist here but are not as rugged as Greeces mountains
        • Due to this, Romans were not as isolated as the ancient Greeks because their mountains were easier to cross
    • In the ancient world, most Romans lived in the country where they were farmers
