    Rice Military Civic ClubGeneral Meeting Minutes

    January 8, 2013The meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM by President Wendy Wilkinson.

    Speaker:

    Parking Benefits District-newly approved ordinance.

    Maria Irshad, Administration & Customer Service Manager, City of Houston ParkingManagement spoke to us about the Parking Benefits District PBD that was approvedand will be starting hopefully sometime in April 2013.

    1. PBD- (houstonpbd.org) will have an advisory committee of 5-9, appointed bythe mayor comprised of both residents & business owners and a few non-voting,honorary seats from the City of Houston who will determine # of permitsbusinesses & residents can apply for, and how to spend the funds from theprogram

    2. Currently ordinance set for 1/permit per/residence, 60% of net revenue will goto Washington Corridor & 40% will go to COH. Primarily along Lillian & CenterStreet

    3. Will not impact Neighborhood Parking Program, but encourage those who havebeen denied in past to reapply now. Must have 75% residential to qualify.

    Announcements:1. New resources for RMCC- QR code, business cards, facebook, googlegroups2. 3-1-1 phone application for reporting issues in our area3. Updates from committees: garden club, social club, book club, and other

    events4. We will be starting volunteer sub-committees so come up with a few items you

    think we can make an impact on

    Lauren Barrash, lives near home that burned down in November. The couple was ontheir honeymoon. HFD wasnt able to rescue two dogs in home.

    Take-aways from fire:- register their pet & post on their front door a tag with name, size, type, of pet

    you have & where they normally go when you arent home or they are scared.(aspca.org/about-us/free-aspca-stuff/free-pet-safety-pack.aspx.

    - always use your alarm if you have one & if you hear a neighbors alarm goingoff, call 911.

    - Get to know your neighbors & give your emergency contact info to them- Make a list of the contents of your home- Put really important documents, medicines, etc into zip lock bags

    -Call 9-1-1 or HPD non-emergency if you see ANY suspicious happenings in ourarea

    - Use our facbeook page to find out about that & other important things in ourneighborhood.
