5. Presentations to Council
• FHS Dean – Dr. Jim Weese The student leadership in this faculty is amazing and council together with deans office is making great progress! This past fall our faculty was recognized as having the most culture engagement. We have great community involvement and students are being recognized by achieving great scholarships and awards. Coming faculty research will focus on ‘health equity’ and the strategic plan is currently being finalized. Teaching and research are key components as well as innovation and balancing challenge and support.
• Wish Mom – Janis Cardy Janis is a professor here at Western and has experienced the impact of the Make a Wish Foundation personally. She shared with council the story of her daughter. It was a great kickoff for the coming semester to inspire the Health Sciences Dream Team initiative.
• CPR Course – Mariel Ang Through the SOF fund the Health Science faculty will be offering First Aid courses to students at a reduced rate. Prices and different options were discussed and more details will come when details are finalized.
6. President’s Announcements LAURA - Welcome back! Elections are coming up in the near future so please start thinking about this in the coming weeks. The SOF meeting has gone very well and there will be a second round of applications this semester, as well as updates on the website of the successful applicants. The Health Science 101 course implemented this year for first year was a big success and other parts of the university are looking into implementing a similar program.
7. Member’s Announcements • VPs: Finance, Student Affairs, Student Events, Communications
Finance- Thank you to everyone that applied for the SOF fund. Student Affairs – March Break Open house is currently being planned. A speakers conference is also being planned for students. This will take place potentially the week after reading week. Student Events – FHS games is tomorrow and Saturday. Thank you for all your help so far. Communications- Tank tops will be sold this week in the UCC. Council sweaters have now arrived and can be picked up.

• USC Councillors There has not been a meeting yet. USC elections will be coming up this semester and today was the official USC day.

• Senate The Senate Report was given. This year was the beginning of a 4 year budget cycle and there was a draft of a strategic plan. Funding has changed for the university and there is some long term costs associated and deficits. Election and the senate positions for next year were discussed. If you have further questions about these roles and the senate please direct them to the Secretariat on the 4th Floor of Stephenson Hall.
