Dengue Prevention

This photograph shows a mother applying mosquito

repellent to her child’s skin in order to prevent mos-

quitoes from biting.

How to reduce your risk of dengue infection:There is no vaccine available against dengue, and there are no specific medicationsto treat a dengue infection. This makes prevention the most important step, and pre-vention means avoiding mosquito bites if you live in or travel to an endemic area.

The best way to reduce mosquitoes is to eliminate the places where the mosquitolays her eggs, like artificial containers that hold water in and around the home. Out-doors, clean water containers like pet and animal watering containers, flower planterdishes or cover water storage barrels. Look for standing water indoors such as invases with fresh flowers and clean at least once a week.

The adult mosquitoes like to bite inside as well as around homes, during the day andat night when the lights are on. To protect yourself, use repellent on your skin whileindoors or out. When possible, wear long sleeves and pants for additional protec-tion. Also, make sure window and door screens are secure and without holes. Ifavailable, use air-conditioning.

If someone in your house is ill with dengue, take extra pre-cautions to prevent mosquitoes from biting the patient andgoing on to bite others in the household. Sleep under amosquito bed net, eliminate mosquitoes you find indoorsand wear repellent!

To all Rotary clubs and Rotarians: Let’s convey the basic message in

this advisory using the local vernacular to members of our respective communities to protect them from the dreaded dengue feverFrom RC Holy Spirit, Thank you. Salamat. Gracias. Terimah Kasi!

Greetings of Peace!

I am the President of the Rotary Club of Sae Gwangju, District 3710. I and the mem-bers of our Rotary Club are honored to be a sister club of the Rotary club of HolySpirit, District 3780. We sincerely congratulate the Rotary Club of Holy Spirit for beinthe Most Outstanding Rotary Club in your District’s 27

th Awards night.

To all the members of Holy Spirit Rotary Club: There is a proverb in Korea “Even a slight touch ofsleeve makes a destiny” which means a little touch makes relationship among people although they donot know each other. In another words, the human relationship is very precious even through smallgestures.

In fact, relationships among people is very important in Korea. It is true that the Rotary Club of SaeGwangju and Rotary Club of Holy Spirit are far from each other in distance. However, with the samegoals for the development of our local communities and attainment of peace in the world, we are closein heart. As part of our sisterhood arrangement, Rotary Club of Sae Gwangju expects the understand-ing between Korea and Philippines through the exchanging of thoughts with Rotary Club of Holy Spirit

Both clubs don’t know each other for now. However, with the passage of time and regular exchange ocommunications, we will be able to understand each other better. Time will come when hopefully Ro-tary Club of Sae Gwangju and Rotary Club of Holy Spirit would be the closest of friends.

Finally, our Club is very thankful to FCP Eui Bong “Dr.Bong” Jung, the 8th president of Holy Spirit Ro-tary Club, for his hard work. And I would like to congratulate Best Class President Marites L. Ne-pomuceno on the occasion of your Club’s 9

Anniversary and turn over ceremonies. May happiness and blessings be with all the members of yourRotary Club.

 Again, Thank you and Mabuhay!

I would like to congratulate the Rotary Club of Holy Spirit on the occasion of its 9th

Charter Anniversary and Turnover Ceremony in this season of the new green leaves.

I hope today’s important event will give new reasons for Rotary Club of Holy Spirit tocontinue in its goal of “service above self”. I also hope that District 3780 will reachnew heights through your Club and the other clubs in the district.

I also would like to extend my congratulations to the Rotary Club of Holy Spirit RID 3780 and RotaryClub of Sae Gwangju RID 3710 who successfully forged a sisterhood relationship last June 13. Thiseventually led to international understanding between Korea and the Philippines. I hope this sisterhoodrelationship would lead two of the clubs to contribute international missionary works.

Rotary Club of Holy Spirit was established in June 2005. It has only been 9 years since it was built. But every year, this club has been recognized as an outstanding club. Especially this year, Rotary Cluof Holy Spirit was honored to be in Top 3 clubs despite of being small scale. This club is acknowledgedas an excellent one in District 3780.

Pres. Marites L. Nepomuceno is not just processing human milk bank project of Global Grant with us,District 3710, but also undertaking various community service projects and effectively managing theclub. I really admire that Pres. Dr.Bong was recognized as an Outstanding Club President and RC HolSpirit, as Most Outstanding Rotary Club, during your District’s Awards Night last May 23, where only

Top 3 clubs were chosen among 101 clubs.

In addition, I give unstinting congratulations and encouragement to Pres. Marites L. Nepomuceno, hop-ing that there will be glory in her tenure.

Lastly, I would like to finish my message of congratulations by hoping that there will be lasting develop-ment in the Rotary Club of Holy Spirit and may there be peace in its members’ homes.

Thank you so much.

May God continue to bless District 3780 and Philippines Rotary!

I find many traditional Chinese values re-flected in Rotary: values of service and re-sponsibility, of respect for family and for oth-ers. Sometimes I call Confucius the world'sfirst Rotarian, because even though he died2,500 years before Rotary was founded, hisideas are very much Rotary ideas. And one

of the things he said was: 與其抱怨,不如改

變. English, you say, "It is better to light a single candle than to sitd curse the darkness."

hink that one line sums up the way we in Rotary approach theoblems of the world. There is so much difficulty. There are soany people who need help. Many people look at this and say, here is nothing I can do." So they do nothing  –  and nothinganges.

ut this is not the Rotary way. The Rotary way is to light a can-e. I light one candle, you light one candle  – and so do 1.2 mil-n other Rotarians. Together, we can do so much more than weuld ever do alone. Together, we can light up the world.2014-15, I am asking each of you to light your own Rotaryndle – and Light Up Rotary together .

ere are so many ways to Light Up Rotary. I hope many of youl choose to host a Rotary Day, to show your community what

otary is and what we do. I hope you will involve your Rotaractd Interact clubs in your service, to bring the new generation ofe Rotary family closer to Rotary membership. And I hope youl keep Rotary strong by inviting new members into Rotary  –

cluding your own spouses and family.

erhaps the most important thing we can do to Light Up Rotarygether  is to finish the job we've been working on for more thanquarter of a century: the eradication of polio. We are so closeour goal. But we will get there only if we keep up the fight,ep up the momentum, and close the funding gap for the poliodgame plan.

ght Up Rotary together  is our theme for this year, but it is morean just a theme. It is how we in Rotary see the world and oure in it. We believe that no one should sit alone in the dark-ss. Instead, we can come together, all 1.2 million of us, to

ght Up Rotary. This is our goal – and my challenge to you.
