One of my favorite parts of a Rotary conven-tion is the House of Friendship. In Chinese,we say: . "To havefriends come together from faraway places isa wonderful thing."

At the 106th annual Rotary InternationalConvention, 6-9 June, the House of Friend-ship will reflect the excitement and the di-verse blend of cultures of São Paulo, thehost city.

between general sessions, you can relax and enjoy all thatazil has to offer – sample the cuisine, browse locally madets, and take in top-quality entertainment. You also can get

eas for service and find partners at booths showcasing Rotaryojects and Rotarian Action Groups.

d best of all, you'll have the opportunity to spend time with old

ends and make many new ones.

e House of Friendship is a wonderful place to bring your con-ntion guests – your family and your friends from home. By at-nding conventions with me, my family experienced the trueernationality of Rotary. Eventually my wife, Corinna, and allee of my children joined Rotary clubs.

u and your guests will want to be sure to come early for Worldater Summit 7, on 4 June, sponsored by the Water and Sanita-n Rotarian Action Group, or for the Rotary Peace Symposium,5 June.

is year we are honored that Dr. Oscar Arias, former presidentCosta Rica, will be the keynote speaker at the Rotary Peacemposium. Arias received the Nobel Peace Prize for brokering

peace agreement that ended the brutal civil wars in Centralmerica.

her events 4-5 June include the Rotaract Preconvention Meet-g, the International Institute, and the Youth Exchange Officerseconvention Meeting.hen the convention is over, spend time exploring all that Brazils to offer – pristine beaches just a few hours away, the excite-ent and glamour of Rio de Janeiro, and the wonders of themazon rain forest.

ery year, I return from the Rotary convention inspired to doore, to give more in Rotary serviceoughout the year. Register todaywww.riconvention.org . I look for-

ard to seeing you in São Paulo!

    Foundation Chairman’s May 2015 M

As we enter into May, we have two monthsleft to ensure that you have made your con-tribution to Rotary's charity, our RotaryFoundation.

There is still time to ensure that it is greaterthan it was last year – our goal for the Annual Fund is US$123 million, the highest it'ever been. There's still time to ensure thatwe achieve our goal. And there's still time toensure that your contribution enables our

Foundation to continue to do good in the world – and that yocan have the personal satisfaction of contributing to this in ameaningful way.

Remember that the good we can do is limited only by the contri-butions we receive.May means that there's also just over one month until the Ro-

tary International Convention in São Paulo, Brazil. Conventiondelegates like to know who will be speaking.

This year we have outstanding speakers on Foundation-relatedtopics, both at the convention and at the Rotary Peace Sympo-sium held immediately prior to the convention. They includeNobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Oscar Arias, Australian entrepre-neur Steve Killelea, Rotary Peace Fellow Katia de Mello Dan-tas, and Global Alumni Service to Humanity Award winnerGeetha Jayaram.

Arias was president of Costa Rica from 1986 to 1990 and 2006to 2010, and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987 for hisrole as architect and peace-broker in ending multiple conflicts inCentral America. Arias continues to be an international force forpeace-building through his personal activities and the AriasFoundation for Peace and Human Progress.

Killelea is an Australian entrepreneur and philanthropist, knowninternationally as the developer of the Global Peace Index. In2007, he established the Institute for Economics and Peace asa vehicle to build a greater understanding of the interconnectionbetween business, peace, and economics.

Dantas received her master's degree in international develop-ment policy from Duke University in 2009. She works tirelesslyon behalf of vulnerable children as the Latin America and Carib-bean policy director for the International Centre for Missing andExploited Children.
