PE Dr Bong extends Oriental medical care and medicines to flood victims and urban poor

Last August 12, as Pres Marcia, Dr Marlene Martinez, Sec JR, andPP Beth were helping out in the district relief distribution at Sto.Domingo, PE Dr Bong and volunteers travelled to Kasiglahan,Montalban and provided medical relief, herbal medicines andvitamins to 103 flood victims who had cough, diarrhea, skin prob-

    lems and athletes foot.

On Aug 19, a similar mission was held at Payatas, with Sec JR aPP Beth among the volunteers. On Aug 26, the monthly missioKaligtasan was held, with 3 members of RCC ofKaligtasan asing. In each of these 2 missions, about 70 patients who colds, skin problems, muscle pain, UTI etc, were attended to given free medicines, vitamins, with 1 or 2 acupunctures.

Hope is shared with Baby TJ and parents as HOLY SPIRIT SMILES project is rolled out

TJ is a one year and four months old baby boy living in a denselypopulated urban community in Barangay Old Balara with his par-ents who are both jobless. TJ was born with a cleft lip and clefpalate. Sometimes, his father gets lucky to be hired as extra

labourer in construction projects. Having finished only first yearhigh school, he could not find gainful employment on a regularbasis. TJs mother (in photo) used to work as a sales lady but had

to stop working when he was born. Now already 8 months preg-

nant, she has to care for TJ and the new baby arriving next month.

Marianita Nits Mahinay, RCC of Kaligtasan President, ap-proached President Marcia regarding TJs plight. On August 14,

Pres Marcia brought TJ and parents, accompanied by Nits, to seeDr Deborah Ann Debbie Sales, an ENT surgeon at the Quirino

Memorial Medical Center. X-ray and blood tests followed the ini-tial check-up and diagnosis. The operation on TJs cleft lip wassuccessfully performed last Tuesday afternoon, August 28. Thesurgery on his cleft palate shall be done after about two years.Coverage of medical & hospital charges pertaining to TJs opera-

tion has been arranged by Dr Debbie Sales, including deeply dis-counted cost of medicines at the pharmacy.

Dr Debbie and her family are long-term family friends of the Sador family. Dr Debbies commitment to share her knowledge a

blessings with less fortunate children forms the foundation of newly launched HOLY SPIRIT SMILES Project of the Rotary ClubHoly Spirit.

Days after the continuous heavy rains and floods, President Marcia visitthe RCHS adopted schools, Dona Juana Elementary School and Holy SpNational High School (HSNHS) to check on their condition. Fortunately, tschools were spared the habagat wrath. However, at HSNHS, 9 teachand 4 students were severely affected by the flooding. In coordination wHSNHS principal Mrs Zaida Padullo, RCHS turned over two (2) sacks of ritwenty eight (28) pairs of slippers, canned goods, and used clothes for tconcerned teachers and students last August 16th.
