ABOUT PIE Images of Success

Punjab Industrial Expo 2014

The Punjab Industrial Estates Develop-ment and Management Company (PIED-MC) was established in 2003, and is owned by the Government of Punjab and is managed by a BOD having representa-tion from both the private and public sectors, thereby demonstrating PIEDMC as a successful example of Public-Private partnership. It is a self sustaining body and does not ask for funds from the Government.

PIEDMC currently has nine industrial projects: Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE) near Lahore, Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate at Kotlakhpat Lahore. Multan Industrial Estate Phase 1 & 2 (MIE), Bhalwal Industrial Estate (BIE), Rahim Yar Khan Industrial Estate (RIE), Vehari Industrial Estate (VIE), Chunian Industrial Estate and Quaid-e-Azam Apparel Park. Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park is also a presti-gious project of PIEDMC, which will contribute 1000MW in National Grid.

Message from Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif,

Chief Minister, Punjab

PUNJAB INDUSTRIAL EXPO 2015 Adding value and businesses for an Industrial Punjab

My dear exhibitors, sponsors and attendees, it is with great pride that Punjab takes the leading initiative to develop and portray the strong industrial base that is prevalent in the province. The Punjab Industrial Expo 2015 will undoubtedly portray the strength Punjab has in terms of industrial-ization, growth and sustainability. Punjab is the largest province of Pakistan in terms of population, and also has the largest and fastest growing economy in the country compared with other provinces and administrative units. Punjab's economy has quadrupled since 1972. It is dominant in the Manu-facturing sector, though the dominance is not as huge. Despite lack of a coastline, Punjab is the most industrialized province of Pakistan; its manufacturing industries produce textiles, sports goods, heavy machinery, electrical appliances, surgical instruments, cement, vehicles, auto parts, I.T, metals, sugar mill plants, cement plants, agriculture machinery, bicycles and rickshaws, floor cover-ings, and processed foods.

My congratulations to the PIEDMC team for initiating such an exciting opportunity where all stake-holders can take advantage of assembling on one platform to portray not only their products and services, but also the strength of industrialisation within the province. As Punjab develops over time, it is critical that such fairs be hosted on such a scale. It is of paramount importance that we support these initiatives so that we can further develop within the province, and ultimately, so that Punjab can be a role model for all provinces to follow.

I wish PIEDMC all the best at this event, and look forward to using this event as a stepping stone to ensuring regular events of such nature be held in the future.

Chairman, PIEDMC

PUNJAB INDUSTRIAL EXPO 2015 Adding value and businesses for an Industrial Punjab

I am delighted to invite you to the second sequel of the Punjab Industrial Exhibition 2015. With the majority of Pakistan’s Industri-al resources based in the Punjab, I believe it is essential for a key event like the Punjab Industrial Exhibition 2015 to be hosted in Lahore.

The Punjab Industrial Exhibition was born as a result of the common strategy and vision of the Government of the Punjab and PIEDMC. It has depicted its success in its last event held in 2014, through which it has become a meeting place for professionals, manufacturers and distributors. Lastly, it has attracted several major players from vast fields to Lahore.

Considering the recent developments and the new opportunities arising from Punjab’s economical and industrial growth, I can proudly say that the Punjab Industrial Exhibition 2015 will be able to offer an ideal platform for key industry professionals, specialists and decision makers, from across Pakistan and beyond. It will be an event where they can meet, network, learn and strengthen relationships.

I encourage you all to participate actively at the Punjab Industrial Exhibition 2015 and reap benefits from it.

I wish you all a very successful event.

About Punjab

The history of Punjab dates back to the Indus civilization. The region has been invaded and ruled by many different empires and races including the Aryans, Persians, Greeks, Egyptians, Afghans, and Mongols. Punjab is well known around the globe as the province of the Sufi Saints. The Mughals controlled the region from 1524-1739. It was during their reign when Puunjab saw the construction of great architectural wonders such as the Badshahi Mosque and the Shalimar Gardens. Today, Punjab remains the heartbeat of the nation and is at the center of all political and economic progress.

GeographyThe land of 5-rivers, population-wise the largest, and once known as the granary of the east, Punjab is the lifeline of Pakistan. To the North of the Punjab is the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province and the federal capital area of Islamabad, to the North-East is Azad Kashmir, to its South-East is India (Indian Punjab & Rajasthan), to the South-West is the province of Sindh while to the West are Baluchistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). All the major rivers of the country namely Indus, Jhelum, Chanab, Ravi, & Sutlaj flow through this province. They originate from the Himalayas and pass from North-West to South-West. They are primeval in nature and the volume of water increases in the summer after the monsoon rains.

EconomyThe economy in the Punjab is mainly agricultural, although industry makes a substantial contri-bution. The province is playing a leading role in agricultural production. It contributes about 68% to the annual food grain production in the country. 51 million acres of land is cultivated and another 9.05 million acres are lying as cultivable waste in different parts of the province. Cotton and rice are important crops. They are the cash crops that contribute substantially to the national exchequer. Punjab has also more than 48 thousand industrial units. Small and cottage industries are in abundance. There are 39,033 small and cottage industrial units. The number of textile units is 11,820. The ginning industries are 6,778. There are 6,355 units for processing of agricultural raw materials including food and feed industries.

There are also some large Auto Manufacturing industries in Punjab, such as Honda, Millat Tractors, Messe Ferguson, Plum QINGQI Motors, Sazgar Engineering Works. Lahore and Gujranwala Divisions have the largest concentration of small and light engineering units. The district of Sialkot excels in sports goods, surgical instruments and cutlery goods. Punjab is also a mineral rich province with extensive mineral deposits of coal, rock-salt, dolomite, gypsum, silica-sand. The Punjab Mineral Development Corporation is running over a dozen economically viable projects.
